Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester was born on 31 March 1900 at York Cottage. He was the third son of King George V of the United Kingdom and Mary of Teck. At the time of his birth, his great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, was still alive, and his parents were the Duke and Duchess of York. He was nicknamed Harry by his family.

Can you do a video on Princess Victoria’s suitors, I hear the Earl of Rosebery and the Marquess of Cambridge were amongst them. A video on why Louise, Princess Royal was allowed to marry the Duke of Fife rather than a Prince would be interesting.

@@JLRobbins sorry I missed them saying that , once Edward had abdicated, he would have been after Margaret in LoS. If he was older than duke of Kent . Must look that up !

@@Hava744 I want to say the Duke of Kent is older but not 100%. He died very young as well. The current Duke of Kent can be seen in the funeral procession of King George and the Coronation of the Queen.

The line of succession when George V was alive: Edward (later Edward VIII,then Duke of Windsor) Albert, Duke of York (later George VI) Princess Elizabeth Princess Margaret Henry, Duke of Gloucester George, Duke of Kent Elizabeth was 10 when her uncle abdicated. Had her father died while she was underage, her uncle would be regent till she came of age. During George's reign, Henry acted as a Counsellor of State (he did what the King would do while the King was away).
