The curse dates back to over 700 years ago when the Grimaldi family, who are the current royalty of Monaco, invaded the land. After violating a young girl and brutally murdering her, the girl, unable to rest in peace, transformed into a witch and cursed the Grimaldi family to never have a happy marriage. Subsequent generations of rulers indeed experienced unhappy marriages. For instance, in the 17th century, Prince Louis I's wife left him and became the mistress of the French King Louis XIV.
