@@andieallison6792 Yes, lions have facial expressions, although their range of expressions may be more limited. Like humans, lions use facial expressions to communicate a wide range of emotions and intentions, such as aggression, fear, contentment, and playfulness. Some of the common facial expressions of lions include wrinkling their noses and raising their upper lip to expose their teeth when they feel threatened or aggressive, and closing their eyes and relaxing their facial features when they are content or relaxed. They may also use other nonverbal cues, such as ear position, tail movement, and body posture, to communicate with other lions and with other animals in their environment. In general, lions may show signs of sadness or distress through changes in their body language and behaviour rather than just their facial expressions, like they may exhibit behaviours such as decreased activity, loss of appetite and social withdrawal. Overall their facial expressions is very limited and are not as complex as we do, plus they're likely to not noticeable to others except to other lions. That's why it's a bit difficult to say if cats are moody or happy. Lions are cats

@abc.animal514 It's a movie with singing lions mate... the desire to ascribe realism to this film is one of the most BAFFLING things i've ever seen or heard. realism is NOT achievable in this story or framework, it just ends up being a film of two halves at war with each other. the original commited to artistic license, its visuals, music etc all accentuated its story and action perfectly. it's 10 times better as a result.

Of course it will suck. Remakes always suck when compared to originals. They can't be better than the shitty 1994 movies that everyone watched while being fascinated about anything. The excitement level of a stupid child is impossible to match, therefore it wasn't the point of a remake. It's good independent movie with outstanding remastered soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and some mediocre voice acting, by Beyonce for example.

@@lindathetford3776 the soundtrack is carrying it, try watching both muted. the original still conveys intensity through character expression, lighting contrast, harsh colour, and sharp cinematography and editing that accentuates the pace of the scene. the remake conveys no character expression or emotion, not even going so far as attaching simple animal mannerisms such as how cats and lions by extension drop their ears low when they're scared. the lighting, colour and cinematography are bland and convey nothing, and the editing is laborious. putting the volume back on I'd also say that the voice-acting in the remake is so vastly inferior it borders on a joke. JD Mcrary does... okay. not bad, but clear he's more a singer than an actor, even if Jonathan Taylor Thomas sometimes came across as whiny he always conveyed the correct emotions adequately, McRary just doesn't commit. James Earl Jones voice has just faded hard, can't exactly blame him for that, but the real difference is Rowan Atkinson vs John Oliver and Jeremy Irons vs Chiwetel Ejiofor. in both cases, the former is VASTLY superior at conveying intensity and emotion. original scene is a 10/10. new version is a 4/10 with 3 or those points being entirely contingent on Hans Zimmer,

Watched both the original and this version's scene back to back. Here's my take on it. The original still makes me cry to this day. It's such a powerful, emotional scene thanks to how the music is used to not only compliment the scene but also explain the emotions of the characters through music. There's no topping how the music was used in the original, but there are certain moments that I think still tap into the original idea. The music sounds a little more triumphant as Mufasa is scaling the cliff. Mufasa feeling glad that Simba's been taken to safety maybe? I like how the music in the canyon sounds, though it's not nearly as good as the heart pumping sound that the original had. There's a couple of elements that I found distracting. Consider Scar's plan is to discreetly kill Mufasa and Simba. He doesn't want the whole tribe to know that he's the one who orchestrated the murder. So in the original while Zazu's panicking, Scar knocks him out specifically when he says he'll go and get the tribe. You can see the cogs in Scar's brain working as he listens to Zazu and realizes that Zazu could ruin everything for him! In the remake, it's Scar who asks Zazu to summon the rest of the tribe! What? That completely defeats the purpose of Scar's plan and makes things a whole lot harder for him! Since now he'd have to explain why he was at the gorge at the time of Mufasa's death and did nothing to help him. It works a lot better in the original, where Scar's acting quickly to clean up loose ends so his plan doesn't fail. The remake scene also paradoxically feels faster and slower at the same time? In the original, Zazu and Mufasa are chatting about the odd commotion in the gorge ("Sire, it appears the wildebeests are on the move" "Odd...") and that's when Scar shows up and informs Mufasa about the stampede. It allows the viewer to have a bit to breathe in the otherwise intense scene before ramping up on the emotion again. The scene feels more intense in the original because of the camerawork. Notice how most of the shots are low to the ground when Simba's in the gorge in the original and that's just not the case in the remake. There's a creative reason for it (emphasizing how afraid and small Simba feels in this moment), but it's also to get the viewer that much closer to the action, making the Wildebeest that much more intimidating. The camera in the original puts you at the same vantage point as Simba essentially. Being fair, there's one added scene that I liked where Simba is huddled under a groove in the terrain and that did have the same feeling as the original's camera shots.
@LocalGooberGoobs
@LocalGooberGoobs 2 года назад
And the way it zooms out from his eye in the original when Mufasa gets killed, showing that he saw it with his very own eyes and now has that burned into his memory. Meanwhile the remake just has the camera zooming out. Apparently, Jon Faverau (sorry if I misspelled it) doesn’t know the intentions behind the original
@starrblue8791
@starrblue8791 2 года назад
I personally prefer the original, definitely, but I think in the remake Scar telling Zazu to get the pride actually works far better than knocking him out. By telling Zazu to go, he can easily pretend that he was in the gorge trying to help Mufasa and Simba but tragically wasn't able to save them because nobody's around to say he wasn't, and everyone would just think that Scar sent Zazu to try and get help. Whereas in the original, surely Zazu would immediately question why Scar knocked him out when he wanted to get help for Mufasa and Simba, since knocking out someone who is trying to fetch aid is inherently suspicious, and the other lions would question that too. So Scar telling Zazu to go and get the pride is actually much more discreet than knocking him out as it makes it look like he was trying to help and gets rid of a potential witness. He could also easily fake being a bit battered by the stampede by rolling around in the dirt, throwing himself against a couple of the cliffaces or even deliberately taking a short fall from one of the lower sections of the gorge wall that Mufasa jumped down near the start.

@@akashicrecords9672 I do see a few issues that moment: 1. In the opening scene to the original film at least, Scar had already made his intentions clear to Zazu that he regretted, not being in line to ascend the throne. 2. Not knocking Zazu out, means that at any moment, Zazu could potentially see that Simba had been rescued to safety, and possibly witness Mufasa being thrown to his death. These would foil Scar's plans. 3. Zazu getting knocked out makes sense- he could simply say that with all the drama going on- he lost his bearings, blacked out etc.

I have so much to complain about. The score isnt even as good. In the original it was heavy with choir voices which helped add to the size and terror of the scene. This just sounded like instruments, which alone is fine, but compared to the source material is a major step down. The establishing shot of the wildebeast was completely removed, which ruined all feelings of payoff as the stampede poured over the edge. Not to mention the stampede doesn't seem to move even a FRACTION as fast as they did in the original, like in the original you really feel the danger bc they're moving so damn fast but in the remake it feels like they're lighting jogging. The removal of the line "Simba it's to DIE for." just wasn't smart, not to mention, not bringing back Jeremy Iron was probably one of their biggest mistakes. Like I'm sure Chiwetel Ejiofor is a wonderful actor (I haven't seen his other works), but he completely ruined Scar in this version. In the original, Scar was a smart, charismatic, calculated villain who used manipulation as his main tactic. He was entertaining bc you could see he sadistically got so much joy out of what he was doing, the way he intently watched Mufasa in the stampede, waiting for him to get trampled with Simba, the way he knocked out Zazu, the way he grinned when he grabbed Mufasa's paws, it made him so scary bc the audience could actually see, hear and feel how little guilt and remorse he had. Chiwetel Ejiofor turned him into a brawny, mean, and bored sounding villain who had no interest in anything. He took that charisma and sadistic joy and turned it more into a "I'm doing this bc I HAVE to" kind of performance, which made Scar really boring and forgettable. The moment when Simba realizes what's happening is completely taken away. In the original, they used a zoom and shadow technique to mirror the horror on Simba's face as he realizes he's right in front of a massive stampede, and that this is truly life or death. While in the remake they just use an unmoving closeup. The added moment where Mufasa actually makes it to the tree, instead of it breaking and him having to catch Simba was just a weird choice, which inherently removed the moment of tension where Mufasa gets basically side swiped and drops Simba. Then when Mufasa FINALLY gets Simba to safety, their stiff faces don't allow Simba to properly emote when Mufasa's ripped away in the current of the Stampede. In the original, the audience clearly sees his eyes darting back and forth as fast as possible, as his ears go down showing that his stomach is dropping because he can't find his dad in the chaos. In the remake you can see it a little but not nearly enough to make the audience feel the same. Then that moment of triumph when he leaps onto the side of the cliff, you can see how much effort it took in the original by the way he bows his head, scrunches his eyes, and bares his teeth. In the remake he just kind of lands on the cliff. The angles they use in the remake also don't allow us to watch Simba and Mufasa simultaneously as he climbs, seeing Simba's sudden panic when Mufasa slips, that was just a bad idea. Then we get to the climax of the scene. The moment where Mufasa reaches the edge of the cliff and it met by Scar's face. The use of shadows over Scar making him look ominous were gorgeous in the original, representing how much of himself he kept hidden from those like Simba and Mufasa, before diving into the lighting and digging his claws into Mufasa, basically revealing that he's NOT on their side. In the original, Mufasa calls out to his brother, and Scar actually responds with "brother!" before Mufasa actually begs him for help. And in the original, Mufasa literally BEGS. He actually sounds and looks terrified, while in the remake he sounds almost annoyed with Scar. And DON'T even get me started on that line delivery. MY GOD. I truly believe this was one of the worst line deliveries in cinema. In the original, he says it so smoothly and you can hear all the pent up rage, without it turning into an aggressive screaming line. Jeremy Iron's performance of the line "Long live the king." is so bone-chilling and dark, I'd say it's the biggest reason this scene is considered one of the greatest scenes in animation history. But in the remake they turned it to garbage. His truncated delivery almost makes it come off as he's trying to sound noble in his actions. It sounds as if he's the "I'm doing the right thing" villain instead of the beloved, "I know I'm a monster and love it" villain he's suppose to be. Also, I can't imagine why they had Scar hit Mufasa in the face in the remake instead of throwing him. That on top of the removal of the crescendo they used in the original to show that what you were afraid of is happening right in front of you completely takes away all the evil payoff of the scene. The angles they used as he fell totally removed that feeling of the canyon being extremely big, then again the "canyon" they used was a pitiful excuse in comparison to the absolutely MASSIVE one from the original. Mufasa and Simba's screams are separated too much, and don't carry NEARLY the same emotion as they did in the original, which makes it difficult to care. And in the aftermath, it didn't even seem like a stampede had happened. In the original there was tons of dust and debris in the air, in the remake it's just not there lmao. You can probably guess what I'm gonna say about the part where Simba finds his fathers body so I wont waste anymore of your time, but this is my (annoyingly extensive) take on this scene. And btw if you can't tell, The Lion King is and has been my biggest obsession since I was 5 years old (I'm 20 now).

You said exactly what I've been thinking about this scene. The original was so much better. It also bothered me so much that they took out the "brother" from Mufasa's line. Because it showed that Mufasa really did love his brother.

2:50, 2:59 I was moved by how the music sounded at that moment, I felt it reflected how relieved Simba felt to see his father come to save him, it gave you the feeling that everything could have turned out well. What I liked about this stampede scene, is that at least they gave Simba and Mufasa one last interaction when he tells him to jump towards him.. 3:06 and felt suddenly when the tree broke and both were separated in the stampede 1:26It was more impressive to see how before climbing the dry tree, Simba was clinging behind the rock that little by little seemed to crush him

This part in the original hit me hard as a young kid, bc the stampede was horrific, Simba was caught in it, his dad saves him and is thrown off by Scar, and then Simba tries to wake him up and snuggles under his dad's paw. I'm saying this to explain that i went to see this movie and I did cry at this scene, but it was solely due to the memory of the animated movie playing in my head.

Some people here may think the animated version of The Lion King is two childish or even corny when compared to this new 2019 CGI version. In fact, some people might even try to claim which realistic animals cannot have emotions painted onto their faces in the same way which animated anthropomorphic animals can. ... I for 1, have to disagree. I have seen and heard real animals in distress, before. In this clip, as many others have plainly stated, there is no sense of impending danger or Doom. There is no fear or desperation on either Simba's face, nor mufasa's face. We cannot even see Simba's eyes starting back and forth during the second time which the wildebeest managed to knock father down and under their feet. Nor is there any devious expression visible on scar's face. The pride's tropical bird advisor is not knocked out by scar, nor even panicking during any point in this remake seen. As for the voice acting, it absolutely fails to do anything to salvage the already lackluster stampede ”sceen". A truly sad re make overall, and a tragic epic failure to capture the raw emotion demonstrated in the original film.
