No because I was on the front row on the show and this scene actually gave me massive chills. The way the puppets were rotating and the masks were truly terrifying!!
Watching this live is quite enthralling, and suspenseful. We saw a touring production where the "tree" was situated relatively far above the stage, and you're praying that Simba's safety line doesn't snap while the dancers are mimicking a stampede.
... Long ... live ... the KING! I think Scar was actually referring to himself with this line. Then again, it could also just be very cruel sarcasm toward his brother.
Traditionally, when the king dies they've already named the successor, and he's set up to take over the moment the old king dies. "The king is dead. Long live the king!" In this case, Scar placed himself as the new king because he's planned to kill Simba. So, you're right on both counts.
When you're Mufasa's wife but low key want him dead so you join the stampede incognito. (True story. We needed more bodies onstage. I couldn't keep myself from laughing during the mourning scene.)
I saw the broadway version live the other day, I really hope I wasn't the only one in the whole theatre that almost became a mess of tears when Mufasa died. I mean, that bit always did it in the film but still.
in the play I was in, the back row of wildebeest had to catch mufasa as he fell. If we didn't catch him Right he would have broken his tailbone. During the practice the day before the play we almost dropped him. Its pretty funny to look back on because he was a swearing mess
This song perfectly captures the suspense, the intensity, the fear in this scene. And the singers and music tell you that a tragedy is about to happen. Spectacularly put together
Doesn't matter which version of this score you listen to, or which version of the scene you watch, the gravity of Mufasa saving Simba from getting trampled, only to be murdered by his own brother always hits HARD.

I don’t know if this is true for all the versions of this show, but when I saw it in London back in 2007, Mufasa shouted Scar’s name as he fell and I remember thinking “Okay, how come Simba didn’t hear that and put two and two together?”
This composition is so strong that it doesn't even need words to tell the story! One of my favorite pieces of music! I loved The Lion King on Broadway, especially this part with all of the gazelle on the rotating wheel, it was definitely crazy to watch!!
My dance recital used this one year. The theme was 'New York City Rhythm' and the last scene was Lion King. The advanced pointe girls used this song. Let's just say it was the favorite dance out of the recital.
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this show. When Mufasa falls and they have that gorgeous strobe effect, I'm basically on the floor. The choreography and tech is stunning.

I remember seeing this on stage when it came to my city once and this stampede scared the crap out of me because I didn’t really know what was going on as I hadn’t seen the movie before and all the Yelling and flashing
I play mufusa at our school play and my friends arnt in the play so they're meant to sing the background music to this but they secretly don't bc they would be wanting to kill me 😂😂 Does anyone else find that funny?? No... just me.... ok..
Here’s my version of the stampede scene which will go into my variation of the musical Zazu: Oh look sire the herd is on the move. Mufasa: odd. Scar: MUFASA, QUICK! SIMBA IS TRAPPED BEYOND THE PRIDELANDS IN THE BIGGEST STAMPEDE! Mufasa: Simba? SIMBA! MY SON! Simba: ZAZU HELP ME! Zazu: your father is on the way hold on! Simba: Hurry! Zazu: I’ll come back for help! Mufasa: RAAAAH! RAAAAAH! LET GO! Mufasa: SIMBA! Mufasa: (injured Lion noises) Mufasa: Scar! B-BROTHER! HELP MEEEEE! Scar: Long live the king! Mufasa: NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I've seen this production twice (once in London when I was 11, then again in Bristol last night), and it's really impressive how they did this scene. I think the London version may have been better due to having a larger stage and thus more space to work with the background elements, but they were both very good.
