An exclusive behind-the-scenes look hosted by Robert Guillaume. From the deluxe VHS edition released in March 1995 (not seen on the 2003 special edition DVD).
Jeremy Irons literally gave life to the character of Scar and was a mastermind in the sass and sarcasm that is Scar. Why oh why didn’t they use him in the live action???
Look at this masterpiece please. The voice actors and the animation were aced and the character design is original for every character. A story with an actual moral and message that is yet enjoyable and educates the young of the wonders of the African savannahs, nature and animal Kingdom is definitely in the top 5 best Disney movies of all time. Not all Disney movies of this generation are being directed and produced as well as they were before. The classic Disney movie era I'd say ended at the turn of the millennium. The best, most remembered, best directed and brought to life Disney movies are the ones created by Walt Disney himself (and obviously other people) and the ones such as The Lion King well before the 2000s. #frozenisoverrated 😂😂😂 From a genuine 14 year old Disney lover.
It's amazing how something as simple as a Disney film can create someone's future. I myself am an artist and musician thanks to The Lion King, but the biggest impact it's had on me is that I'm going into lion conservation as soon as I finish my zoology degree. Here's to everyone who made this film, because they've made people like us for the next generation, just by making a magical 74 minute story.
Of the many in Disney's gigantic roster of villains, none can hold a candle to Scar. Jeremy Irons and Chiwetel Ejiofor made their versions their own. Both slick with dark charm and ferocious barbarism.
Old Disney movies are so good. They have so much feeling and represent so much. Now the new ones are so in your face and “politically correct” Disney isn’t even the same company anymore . This was such a beautiful movie.
Disney always been politically correct. They literally took off every scary and bloody moments from the original stories because children would be too scared, that literally the essence of politically correct ness Why you people like so much to use word you don't even know the meaning of?
Cyrus Chao To be completely honest- my very favorite voices of Scar are James Horan and David Oyelowo because those English and American actors behave like gentlemen while Jeremy Irons and Jim Cummings act like savages in this film, the 2nd film and the Lion King: Simba’s Mighty Adventure.
oh..............my.............................WOW I can watch the Lion King over and over and over and over again and everytime would even more amazing than before. (with all the work they put in, it's only true that THIS is the best disney animation movie yet)
Its been twenty years since, I was this movie, When I was eight years old. Have it to watch it again ! Maybe, I can understand something, that I didn't get understand as a child.
Man, it really hurts watching this, i feel like many just don’t have the same heart for storytelling and characters anymore. The Lion King is like the most wound that loves. Makes your heart ache finishing it, but being in it makes the world a song.
Meerkats are fast moving critters in nature. They look like they're on caffeine. Timon is a meerkat and I saw a lot of them at San Francisco Zoo when I was younger.
I've loved this movie from the minute I saw it. You know; when I was a little kid. I'm coming here now in light of James Earl Jones's recent death, and now I feel guilty, because I feel like I should have done so in light of Robert Guillaume's death, as well. Their vocal contributions to this film MADE IT, and the world is worse off without them in it.
I had no idea the wildebeests were cgi! It still holds up so well. I didn’t know that CG technology was advanced enough to render that many individual things at once, let alone have simple AI scripts to independently follow/avoid running into each other.
I don't think any Walt Disney Animated Masterpiece has been worked on as hard as The Lion King has been worked on. No wonder The Lion King is known as the most successful animated movie of all time.
3:27 I can really understand how that helps her, :D in my drawings, whatever character I'm drawing, the emotion they have, I often find myself automatically with the same emotion (smiling, looking distraught, or angry) It's a great way to get emotion through drawings! :D
HA like me I love watching Children's movies cause I can learn how to draw the charcthers myself and I always draw Tangled NON STOP but as a kid before Tangled came into existence this was my all time favourite as a kid. Still is but its sitting at No#2.
anvith nayak I do also and I watch and love his videos especially his movie brother bear which I love and he also animated rajah in Aladdin and think the beast in beauty and the beast and one of the soldiers in Mulan
Andreas Deja had a thing for Disney villans he did Gaston for "Beauty and the Beast", Jafar for "Aladdin" and Scar for "The Lion King" all of those characters are villans.
I love this movie, I really do. This was an interesting video, too. I really liked this. The only problem was that the lyrics and music was off for a bit in "I Just Can't Wait to be King." Thank you for this!
To me, Scar was and still is the best villains Disney ever created. He had this very haunting presence and, through Irons’ performance, he would pronounce certain lines with intimidation, devious cunningness, calmness and, in some cases, humour. The role of Scar really does tie in with Irons. And, no disrespect to Chiwetel Ejiofor, it is a shame that Irons won’t be reprising the role of Scar just like James Earl Jones is with Mufasa.

"Sexy as hell voice." So true! XD By the way, I always wanted to know why the creators hired a British actor to voice Scar despite Scar living in Africa.

Lion king is one of the greatest movies ever. It’s one of my favorite films of all time. It’s a perfect example of what I love in a movie. Good characters, dark moments, a great score, good soundtrack, and some comedy. Edgy for a kids movie too.
vuurmark These days you can use computers to make some pretty realistic animals have you seen the Narina films? You would have to admit Aslan looks pretty real.
This has been my favorite movie since the day it came out. Even now, at 36 years old, hearing "the circle of life" makes me misty eyed. Everything about this movie is so powerful. ❤️
same here. 37 years okd and remeber seeing in theatres when it came out with my mom and brother. cant helo but feel chills and cry because of the nostalgia but how powerful the movie was watching it first time
OK I admit - The only reason why I continue to watch Lion King over and over again is because of scar and to hear Jeremy Irons voice.....I mean lets face it, who else could have pulled it off for Scars character......NOBODY!......Jeremy Irons is the Best, Period!
I agree, he did an amazing job. Check out Hercules. The villain, Hades, had some of the best voice acting work for a villain. Smooth, fast talking, prone to raging out in an instant lol It was really great.
Same. Irons was a must have and they didnt get him... jones and irons were the only two i felt truly couldnt be replaced and honestly after watch the movie, that belief was confirmed.
pity they dont make movies like before. some of them are really good with the more futuristic graphics but there is something else and another magic in this old designs where the animation was all about the expressive lines that a pencil would make in the hands of the designers
Inês Martins I agree totally, the current modern animation has its strengths and I would not say to abandon it but I wish they would also work in the hand-drawn classical animation because most people these days think the newer way is superior but the hand-drawn has a style, has unparalleled magic that the cgi could never have and thats a big reason why however good Disney movies are now, they don't compare to movies like Aladdin, Lion King, Pinocchio, Snow White, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.
Such a beautiful documentary of my favorite Disney movie of all time. And a beautiful memoir of Robert Guillaume. May you rest in peace, Robert. You were one of the brightest shining stars to ever grace the Earth. Always remembered, never forgotten! =[ =]
Fun fact: Scar initially wasn't related to Mufasa or Simba and was just a rogue lion. However, one of the writers(I forgot his name) suggested to make Scar into Simba's paternal uncle. At first, the creators didn't like the idea but after enough persuasion from the writer, they decided to make Scar into the evil uncle that we know today.
Also, way before that, The Lion King was originally going to be a story about a battle between lions & baboons (with Scar as the lead baboon), with Rafiki originally as a cheetah
This movie was the finale stroke of my childhood. I was 13 when it arrived. I just remember it became a family film and the last of the cartoon movies from Disney we sat and watched. It brings a tear of nostalgia to my eyes as it was the perfect film to end ones childhood on.
This is what happens when you combine People like James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Elton John and Hans Zimmer. You get a Masterpiece that still holds up. Thank you Disney for making this.
I'll never forget how quiet the theatre was when the opening ended. I was 18. Everyone in the 9pm session theatre KNEW something amazing was going to be presented to us.
Scar is the reason i love great villains. The voices for both Mufasa and Scar are so lion like. The voice of justice and evil. You couldnt ask for a better juxtaposition
So many life lessons. I was a child when the movie originally came out. My fav movie of all time. It taught me about life and death, friendship, getting over grief, facing your fears, facing your past mistakes and making amends....there are so many life lessons. My relationship with my parents was shaped from this movie alone, nothing else. This movie captured and made the biggest impact.
