Hey everyone, I'm making a concerted effort to branch out beyond RU-vid and make sure TierZoo has some longevity to it independent of platform. If any of you are willing, it would help me out a ton if you'd "Like" my Facebook page here facebook.com/thetierzoo It takes 10,000 followers and 30,000 views to become monetizable on Facebook, and reaching that threshold would be a huge boost to the amount I'm able to spend on each video. So please, if you like my channel, it would help so much!
The Komodo is nothing when compared to it's larger extinct Australian relative-Varanus priscus, it could reach over 6 meters in length, wich is more than twice as long as the biggest Komodos ever, sad that they went extinct 40.000 years ago.
@@ErdemTipix They would be ideal in dealing with the invasive pig, horse, camel and water buffalo players in Australia as well as finally challenging the Dingo as Australia's top tier.
I heard that feature was available during the Middle Age version a few years ago, but got banned a while back after the dragon class started bugging the game.
@@gravityx3 Dragon class was never added to the game, this was confirmed by the devs, they are just myths that player base created. So I doubt this feature even existed.
You know I'm thinking about it, and it's hilarious even with the updated minimal definition of man derived from that: " a featherless biped with flat nails" A PANGOLIN could still be counted as a man. I mean they do move bipedal quite a lot and at least on their feet they have flat nails so yeah we need to give pangolins human rights if you ask these people.
@@Sara3346 I mean they didn't really know pangolins, basilisks or any of the other bipedal species besides birds and humans existed, which is why Plato proposed that definition in the first place. Diogenes made fun of him because that was an extremely approximated definition and Plato must've been a real smartass about it
Overlooked features: Iguanas have pretty devastating bites. Tegu can raise their body temperature during breeding season, allowing them to be active while other builds still need to bask. They also have a very strong bite and can run pretty fast. Geckos - some of them can not only shed their tail but also their skin, making grappling attacks much harder to land. Also some gecko species spec heavily in the 'cute' factor, forcing human players to keep them as pets which not only protects them from other pvp players but also results in a good and steady supply of xp. Monitors not only can run and breath at the same time, their circulatory system has some pretty unique features in their heart resulting in a much better seperation between veinous and arterial blood which means better endurance. They also have a pretty high intelligence for lizards which results in some of them being able to make use of human players as protectors and xp delivery persons - like geckos.
Geckos should go a little bit higher if only because they come in such a huge variety. While many geckos spec into the climbing ability (like my beloved crestie), others (like beloved AFT gecko) spec into ground dwelling/desert survival specs. This gives geckos a huge range to live in.
Legends of a very smart gecko have surfaced, saying that he runs an insurance company, and pretends to be an animated lizard used in its marketing. I think there's more to lizards than we realie
I feel like he shouldn't rate it highly but i mean if you aren't a tank class you don't need your HP as much so a skill which makes it less likely to hit 0 in exchange for HP seems solid.
@@scaledjames98 Exactly, TierZoo didn't really do his research on the Tegus. Tegus rarely drop their tail after reaching maturity/high bulk, and instead drop more during youth where it only takes around 2 months to regrow; it is easily the difference between an early death or not, especially when they're not strong enough to use tails as a weapon. Plus they can control how much of the tail to drop, making them immediately better than lizards like the iguanas where its all at once. This is important in the sub-tropical areas most tegus live, where potential predators for a young tegu are far more diverse than what a terrestrial monitor might encounter in an arid environment. For most of these lists, he doesn't seem to realize that negative traits are eventually bred out, and stick around for a reason...
@@markwackerman5593 of course it’s viable, or else it wouldn’t be so widespread. Tierzoo seems to think that a lot of the time the only traits worthwhile are those that improve fighting ability, and animals that can’t fight well suck, even if they’re actually great survivors. He says that autonomy is stupid because you lose your weapon, but in most cases if the lizards didn’t lose their tails when attacked they’d just straight up die then and there. Better to lose your weapon than die completely.
Honestly, the worst part about his comparison is the whole "max HP" thing. A lizard dropping it's tail affects it's *resistances*, making it more vulnerable to diseases, and having a less energy stores. It won't make the lizard weaker in a fight. ...Well, okay, no. That's just the worst unintuitive part. Obviously the actual worst is that he talks about an objectively positive trait as if it's a negative.
One other positive about the chameleon's colour change is that they can also use it for thermoregulation, becoming darker to absorb more heat and light to reflect more of it.
I have to vote someone off for a week or so no one minute to start the game lol I just saw a message on my Facebook and I was literally talking about the whole thing lol I was just letting you know I didn’t want you guys wanna wanna come with me to the game I think it’s a little more than that a lot of fun lol lol yeah yeah you know what you do for me lol lol yeah yeah you can do that I just saw a lot and I saw that I saw a little red brown and yellow orange brown brown lol I was literally a black white white black white pink brown white brown pink pink brown brown white black
What I love about this channel is it breaks down animals in to something I understand this is what schools should be doing to help kids learn. Mostteachers wont take ncreative liberties to teach and it means kids don’t listen or care
I love anole lizards. I've seen many in my patio here in New Orleans changing color as they move from branches to leaves but it wasn't until I lucked into a house lizard that I really came to appreciate them. Fruit flies are a common curse here. They are so tiny and numerous that swatting them is hopeless. There may be hundreds in a swarm. Living in an 1850's building I also am cursed with cockroaches, not the tiny ones from the north but 3" giants. I have tried everything to get rid of them but they nest in the empty spaces behind drawers or in walls. About 4 months ago I noticed an anole lizard on my kitchen wall. They are so beautiful, brilliant green with those inscrutable ultra-black eyes. I welcomed it but was unsure whether it could survive in my apartment. There was a big hatch of fruit flies over one of my counters. The next day there were less and by day 3 they were completely gone. I assumed the lizard got them. But then the cockroaches started to disappear. Where I might have seen a dozen or more every day now it was more like 1 or 2. Finally they disappeared too. I can only speculate that the lizard was eating all their eggs. A few tiny ones started showing up with a rare teenage one and I was afraid my lizard had died of starvation, (no more eggs!). I was heartened by seeing just the end of a tail twitch in a crack but the next day there was a tiny lizard body lying on my dishtowel. I don't know why it died. Maybe hunger, maybe age, maybe it got sick but I cried for it. BUT the next day I saw another tail so it's relative has taken up the fight. Got roaches, flies, fruit flies, moths, get a lizard!
I think it’s strange that he’s so critical, if it didn’t work then lizards wouldn’t spec into it, I mean when so many different lizard builds utilize it can’t be that bad.
Haven't watched yet, but I'm placing my bet now. Komodo Dragon is the top tier. Septic bite, pack mentality, and claws good for climbing and slashing. That's also neglecting the fact that they are the largest living lizard on our planet.
@@ericolens3 they don't have wings but can still fly, so I guess you could say that they aren't perfect because they can't fly A fun fact is that here in Brazil we have a saying called "Don't give wings to snakes" (which basically means to not make something worse than it is or to not help bad people) because of the idea that snakes are overpowered already and if they could fly they'd be too much
I'm surprised you didn't talk about flying lizards. When I was younger I wanted one as a pet SO BAD and would dream about having one ride around on my shoulder.
Komodo dragon op af, they got the decay affect on their bite so they can just bite the prey and slowly chase it down at a walking pace, also their stealth allows them to compete with humans in ideal habitats
An update to the Komodo: it was recently discovered they have a subcutaneous bone mesh kind of armor, on top of their already tough hide. This makes them incredibly tanky, as well as being decent damage dealers with their venom.
yeah, i used to main therizinosaurus back in the cretaceous patch, but now i main komodo and im so glad they got yet another defence buff, even though they didnt need it lol.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 It's not at all though, I've owned multiple species and as long as you understand and respect the animal it poses very little danger to you. Sure a big croc monitor could bite your face/neck area and kill you but you'd have to be manhandling it and you'd have to be able to touch it first and it's not going to let you if it doesn't know and trust you. NERD has tons of videos about socializing monitors and large snakes, great content from people who love working with exotic animals.
@@juanjoyaborja.3054 as an owner of multiple speices of monitor lizard all i can say is just respect their dangerousness and actually pay attention with the lizard they tell ya when to back off
I wish I discovered this channel earlier. Combines two things I adored when I was younger, animals and videogames, into something unique, informative and highly entertaining. Great stuff.
Honestly, real talk. I really like learning about nature and how animals interact in the ecosystems they inhabit, but I typically have a hard time resonating with the teaching method. This game-ification of teaching something that I would only really be able to find elsewhere on the Discovery channel makes learning this stuff really fun and engaging.
@Stella Hohenheim Human tier lost* (obviously Homo sapien is the most powerfull, but I would like to see what was better, neanderthal or denisovan or florenscensi)
Check his "Are Crocodilians OP?" video. It's not a traditional tier list, but if I remember right, he said that most crocodilians are very similar in their play-styles and capabilities, placing them pretty consistently in top tier.
That's less a stat, and more a collection of stats that make you appealing as a companion to Human players. I find play as a human companion quite boring, as everything is provided with no real struggles, but it's nice if you want to play casually.
@@blueraspberrysoda2133 Most humans start off taking advantage of this playstyle. Some continue to take advantage of it late into life, even sometimes making money from it.
Yes, this only works when encountering human mains, but on top of that you have to be friendly to them, if you pull these off, then yeah, xp comes easy
to me tegu lizards are S tiers, they are smart enough to realize their tail is useful and use autotomy rarely, only when they are chicks or are at risk of death (and they have high mobility in water and can run relatively fast.)
Unfortunately that particular lizard subset is currently so well-hidden it's still classed under "Cryptid." Maybe dataminers will confirm them soon lol
Some additional information regarding the komodo dragon: Its bite indeed isn't particularly venomous. It's arguably not even meant to deal direct venom damage. Instead it's best at very gradually stacking up weakening debuffs by preventing a bite wound from ever really closing. This is especially dangerous since the target never stops bleeding, and the open wound will eventually lead to probably one of the most dangerous side effects combat could: infections. With the constant blood-loss, and increasingly severe infection debuff a bite will inevitably lead to the target's demise. Moreover, the komodo dragon's excellent sense of smell ensures that it can find the target's place of death, and thus have an easy time collecting the loot and xp.
One of the reasons monitor lizards are OP is that they're unusual in having invested heavily into endurance, meaning they can keep going for extended periods of time (to the extent they actually exceed ambush-specialized mammals like cats in terms of stamina).
@@maxeichenmuller1211 i mean running as fast af on two legs is good and all, but it's really just something more gimmicky. And water surface is dangerous so there's that.
As a gecko main I can concur that our play style is much easier than other lizards. Since most of us have used evolution points on padding, climbing is an easy way not to get ambushed. Plus, with our usual camo and excellent jaw strength we have no problem defending ourselves. If we fail some of us still have our self amputating tails. Our only predators are birds and a few snake builds. Still, I’m happy to be listed as a descent C tier.
@@solaris527 If they do decide to attack a human though, you better have a weapon or a tree nearby. They don't have great stamina, but their sprints are surprisingly fast. Even Steve Irwin had to flee up a tree to get away from one (and it bit straight through his gore-tex shoe, narrowly missing his skin).
@@claudiu-mihaipuiu1221 idk, ive been playing the game for a bit now (ive been around since late beta testing, swapped mains a couple times) and ive never seen a basilisk that can cause petrification. i dont think that's even a viable perk, although things like paralysis can cause a similar effect, if the player has access to it
@@Ruskah0307 It was a really early beta build that was broken as hell. Turns out that turning your opponents to stone is pretty goddamn broken, so it was dropped near instantly. Not to mention it's region locked to regions that don't even exist anymore. You can still play as it if you want to, but you have to switch to a really, really old version of the game that nobody is really playing anymore.
I actually think the autotomy ability is very beneficial- compare it to human players having amputations- If your arm (weak compared to skink & strong compared to iguanas) was severely injured and you would die with it, but you have it amputated to live
This is the first of your videos I have stumbled across...as a animal enthusiast and a game nerd, I find this content amazing xD ...also I'm from. AZ and you using the Gerudo music for the Gila Monster is just...*chef kiss* perfection xD
There’s a bug in the game where a door will open and a purple lizard player by the name of Randall appears. They affect the human toddler player base and I hope the devs fix this.
Why would they do that, they already added the shovel weapon which deals 300% damage to randals. Are they just trying to completely destroy a troll build.
Should be noted that monitor lizard builds are also the only lizards who are capable of breathing and running at the same time. By forcing air down their throats, they can chase down other players with much greater endurance than any other lizard build.
They are the only ones that can run on four legs, but many other builds are able to breath while running on their back legs, which is much less efficient, but still better than nothing.
In general, mammals get smaller on islands. Fewer food resources pressures mammals into evolving smaller bodies. Carnivorous mammals usually die off. Reptiles are cold blooded so they don’t require as many calories. That means island reptiles get bigger and replace the niche that carnivorous mammals had.

Fun Fact: While komodo dragons don't have the strongest bite, their saliva does contain an strong anti-clotting agent, or anticoagulant, so they only need to bite their prey once and then chase it as it slowly bleeds out.
