I think FSB:DRAM async means the front side bus and RAM frequecies are _not_ synchronised. I.e. they are different.

I have a 16GB RAM installed, but after I increased the frequency the PC didn't start, I removed the RAM and it started working again, but now only with the RAM from the motherboard. sad very sad.

If the RAM fails to overclock, you'll need to reset the BIOS and adjust the frequency to a lower setting, below the point where it initially failed. Unfortunately, not every RAM stick can reliably maintain a speed of 3200MHz.

Definitely a fun handheld, plenty of value to be had on this one. I've used mine exclusively for the past week and I gotta say between the screen, ergonomics and full size joysticks I'm pretty happy with it. Obviously it isn't meant to play AAA games but it does what I want it to.

Thank you, this video is really great tutorial for owners and perspective bayers, actually I am the owner of win600 handled console and I have quite good experience in playing games like Witcher 3 or dark souls 3 mostly with 30 fps and 960×480 resolution and 16/25w, I was surprised that Loki zero has dual channel ram and now I wonder how Loki zero would handle such high end games (both consoles has same chip amd 3050 with vega 3) and similar price level

I wanted to use ROG ally ssd for my Loki zero as well so I bought an ssd enclosure and tried to clone my 256gb Loki drive to my 512gb ally drive and it’s been 17 hours and still cloning! How long did yours take? Should I cancel the cloning and try again?

Always happy to help the community. Easy enough to upgrade it yourself in my opinion anyways but there's a possibility of the stock ram being able to overclock to 3200mhz... I just didn't test mine before I took it out. It all usually comes down to the silicon lottery with how far you can push memory.

I found Chimera a bit buggy on these devices and I'd rather have the flexibility and compatibility of Windows. I tried to install it once but quickly went back to Windows. Definitely not for me and I'm pretty happy with the default OS as a whole. As I didn't end up using this machine for emulation I never tried EmuDeck either.

@@KeiRetroGaming I have the complete opposite experience: Windows 11 felt sluggish and CHimeraOS feels much faster. BTW: I just upgraded the RAM to 12GB and changed the BIOS according to your instructions. Thos insrtuctions were very helpfull so thanks for this detailed guide 🙂. As i'm still running ChimeraOS Steam now reports 2GB of VRAM and 10GB of system memory so all seems good. I'm not sure how to 'test' those changes on thise device as you are using the windows-setup but I'll do some game testing in the upcoming weeks and will let you know the outcome if you like.

this device interests me, but confuses me as well. i want one to play jrpgs on, but with it being such a weak chipset. unless you had the fps capped, p5r was only getting 40fps. this doesnt look like it will be powerful enough to play all the games i want it to.

My Loki Zero doesn't have all of those settings exposed in the bios. What version of the bios are you running? I had to run a AMD bios browser tool to make changes... Edit.. looks like I have the same firmware number but my build date is 07/31/2023... I don't have an advanced tab.

The Mini Pro is soldered onboard. Only the Zero has upgradable memory.

The teardown should be nearly the same but inside it's all soldered onboard with the Mini Pro. Only the Loki Zero has an upgradable memory slot unfortunately.

It could be in mouse mode. It's been awhile since I've picked mine up but I believe it's the top two buttons on either side of the screen to swap back to gamepad mode.

It's definitely a significant leap over the 3+ in terms of raw GPU performance. Russ covered PS2 emulation in his video, and it should be a notable improvement over the 3+ in that regard (still not perfect but decent). I'm sorry to inform you that you are running in 2x single channel mode. Dual channel is only achievable with identical size ram stick. So you have now 12gb of ram running at 1600mhz and before you had 8gb running at 2400mhz because it's actually the fastest ram speed you cpu can support. I'm not even sure if your cpu can support 3200mhz. But because it's single channel, it's 1600mhz so your cpu can handle it just fine.

@@jkn2k for dual channel ram yes, it must be single channel ram with different size ram sticks. But for the speed I don't know if the max is 2400 or 3200 mhz because I'm not familiar with this device. But according to AMD specifications, the max ram speed is 2400mhz for this cpu but I don't know if the memory controller is integrated in the cpu or in the motherboard. If the memory controller is in the motherboard, the ram speed may be able run at 3200mhz like it's said in this video. PS : running 3200mhz ram in single channel mode = 1600mhz because 3200mhz is for dual channel mode.

What did you use to clone the operating system? I ordered the zero and i want to try these methods for upgrading. And i also wanted to know if I the smaller ssd can be placed into a cloning device.

To clone the OS I recommend using Balena Etcher to mount Clonezilla to a micro sd card, follow these steps below: 1 - Download Clonezilla from the official website and use Balena Etcher to mount the image to the micro sd card. Make sure to select the stable download at this link: clonezilla.org/downloads.php 2 - Insert the new drive into your handheld and connect the old one to an M2 enclosure like the one I used here: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08RVC6F9Y/ 3 - Boot into the Clonezilla bootable micro sd card and select the "drive to drive" clone option, ensuring that you expand partitions proportionally. It'll let you know when it finishes cloning so don't turn it off by accident. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

When I clone the original drive and insert the new drive in my Loki Mini Pro it just loads asking if I want to reset windows, tried 2 different cloning software including one that came with my new SSD and I just can’t get the new drive to be bootable? Any ideas?

The battery tests seem to be within the margin of error, with roughly 2-4% difference after the upgrade.

I would advise against the 8G ram stick, cause only 8G total will work in dual channel and the last 4G will run in single channel mode. Try to find a 4G stick instead, and run a steamos clone like bazzite on it, 8G is plenty for the little this apu can do

Further, testing, even 8G benefits from setting vram to 2G. It will nevef go beyond that, I think it's a hard limitation of the gpu. For me, perf increases if I set ddr4 speed to 2666 and even more at 2966, but completely falls apart at 3200, so I'd advise to benchmark your settings instead of relying blindly on "more=better"

To make that option visible, you need to update the BIOS to the version linked in the description. The default BIOS is quite restrictive.

Use the reset button at the bottom of the console (in the small pin hole by the USB C port) to reset the BIOS.

Yeah, essentially it just can't use anymore than 32GB total. The Loki Max is soldered onboard so unfortunately the Loki Zero is the only upgradeable model in that regard. Sorry for the delayed response, somehow I missed your reply.

Are you actually able to play persona 5 on this or did you just load it to show the frame rates being more stable? I've ordered one but it would be a bonus if it was capable of playing a game like persona 5 on windows.

You can play it on there if you really drop the settings down. 540p with the lowest settings on a lot of games like this helps, then just bump up the sharpening etc. If you're okay with 30-45fps then a lot of these games become playable.

It has 4gb onboard plus the 4gb in slot mine came with. If you buy the 4gb soldered onboard only, it's single channel.

If you have the base model you'll have one empty slot with the 4gb soldered onboard, so you'd just need an 8gb stick and you'd be set.

lol I have an extra 8gb ram ddr4 3200hz that I kept after my old laptop died. I kept it because I knew I would use it someday xD

Depends. The Odin devices are aimed at streaming, and emulation (up to PS2 and some switch). The Loki is a full computer so it can do PS3 and Xbox gaming as well as better switch emulation in general. Bear in mind though the Loki has much less battery life compared to an ARM device.
