A series of The Long Dark runs where I try to survive a month or until fully self-sustaining in a single region with a fresh start. Forsaken Airfield is the latest edition to the game's Regions, and by a good measure my least favourite. It's a vast wasteland with awful weather and an irritating unique affliction. None the less, we must whip this region into line.

Actual cabins without zones is actually a pretty good addition. I like the fact that you can peak out the window and see what it's like outside. Also, off the grid camping is always worth it. I do take power and solar with me to allow me to listen to my books, but otherwise disconnecting is refreshing.

Absolutely. This is probably the reason places like the mountaineers hut are my favorite shelters in the game. Its just a different level of immersion when you can actually hear and see your outside

DDRJake, I fell madly in love with you long ago when I witnessed you wring every drop of productivity from the citizens of Frostpunk, ordering them to "Get back to work!" at pain of lynching on the generator pedestal. Now, I have played and watched played The Long Dark for thousands of hours. Yet still, until seeing your playthrough today, I had not known it was possible to eat multiple cattails at once. Please, I beg you, what is the secret to eating multiple cattails?

multiple cat tails, as well as items on the radial stacking, are a result of this Quality of Life mod found here: github.com/VonDoogles/TLD-QualityOfLife Unfortunately, the latest updates to the game broke the mod, which is why I am running an older version of the game (It's the June version, just after the recipes were added, and a few things were fixed)

Oh God, Your doing FA...Even with some of the better gear Stalker has to offer FA was still brutal for me(though the island cabin is a vibe, very comfy).

TLD mechanics are curious. You would think that in negative 37°C Shepherd would be constructing Fort Heat out of every blanket they could find and stuffing their clothes to the brim with every pelt they can get their hands on like the Inuit. To hell with waiting 5 days for custom tailored gloves! In that kind of weather I resemble more of a woolen slug than a scantily clad hiker lol

I think that if you were to be moving around as much as Shepard does in your woolen slug form, you would sweat yourself to death. Indoors though, absolutely.

Indeed, the tops of mountains are well known to be dangerously hot with all that heat rising up there.

Insulation and the fact that when you dig enough, you get beneath the permafrost. There's some interesting things you can do with that, but it's only really relevant up here in the far north, but then when it would be most useful, it's also extremely dark

May I suggest Unreal World? It's a 30 years old still updated survival game in fictional ancient Finland made by one guy. In 1992 sense the UI isn't the best but it has it's good parts. 2 years old version is free on developers website. It doesn't have hardcore feels like Long Dark however

Bleak Inlet SRS means you never get to the signal tower, since you‘d have to leave the region and re-enter from the ravine right?

No. With a lot of effort, you can climb up the mountain to the signal tower from the Cannery area.

That's an interesting prospect. Temperatures would always be very low, navigation would be tough and clothes would degrade fast and get wet. On top of that, there would be no rabbits, bears, moose or regular wolves spawning; only Timberwolves. It would certainly be possible to survive, but it would be very grim.

I've been to the USA several times and I lament for the everyday working man I've met there, it just does not sound like a good place to be an employee.

I think spray paint can be used as accelerant. Heavy to carry around, but better than spray painting symbols.

TWM and a few others aren't done yet, and will be tackled after the expansion Tales from the Far Territory is finished. Unfortunately, that expansion is having some severe delays and issues.
