The Long Journey Home Gameplay Overview:
It was supposed to be a short test run - a quick flight to Alpha Centauri and back. But when mankind’s first experimental jump drive goes wrong, a misfit crew finds itself trapped on the wrong side of the universe - alone, injured, falling apart. The only way back… is through.
Explore an endlessly shifting universe. Form alliances with strange aliens, from the noble Wolphax Knights to cruel-minded Ilitza slaver empire. Harness your crew’s skills in everything from research to archeology to diplomacy. Learn the laws of an often hostile universe, and make tough decisions that may change it forever. Do whatever it takes to get back to Earth.
The Long Journey Home combines the endless freedom of space with a new open questing system that always leaves you in command. Deliver the stranded Glukkt to his homeworld as he asks, or to your new slaver friends? Attempt to make allies with everyone, or pin your hopes on the tougher races, and hope they never turn on you? Jump by jump, make hard decisions and live with the consequences, in a universe that is never the same twice.

Choose four out of ten experts, all with personality as well as specialties. Far from just stats, you’ll come to know them as they share their feelings, their fears, their excitement and their concerns on the trip and your decisions. Blitz, if your ship is a broadside, and shoots sideways to your ship REGARDLESS OF YOUR CURSOR, then you shouldn't point your cursor at the enemy ship. Keep it at a 90 degree angle from the enemy ship with your ship as the centre point.

Oh man! 3/3 RU-vidrs I've watched play this game all keep making the same mistake when landing on a planet, kill all horizontal motion, which deflects the speed to vertical then crash into the planet. Blitz, you need to burn vertically and make sure you reduce your vertical speed first, and reduce your horizontal speed in baby steps,

STAR CONTROL! Yes! _That's_ the older game this reminds me of (complete with options to sell crewmembers into slavery, etc.) Phew. Now that I've finally remembered it, I can stop going crazy. :P

Funny. Kapteyn’s Star is actually 3.96 parsecs away from Earth, not the whatever distance this game claims. The developers should do their research better.

Be very careful not to turn your lander sideways like that. You have to keep thrusters aimed toward the ground to counter gravity, even a 45 degree angle is really pushing it. Although the heavy winds on that planet certainly were tricky to deal with, slow, steady acceleration against them is far better than being impatient, crashing to the ground, destroying your lander, injuring and possibly killing your pilot, etc... :)

If you dont want to slam in the ground but dont mind sliding far to the left or right, you can just jet straight up until your vertical velocity stabilizes out, then worry about direction. When you jet directly opposite to your entry trajectory some thrust gets wasted on keeping you from going to the left or right, depending on which direction you're going when you land.

This game looks super sweet, I would love to see more of it, Blitz! The only thing I'm not as high on is the combat, as I've never liked having to actually broadside people in games (It just feels super awkward to shoot out of my side, rather than the front), but everything else looks rad.

A small tip for landing on high gravity planets: Point your engines straight down. You will go sideways pretty fast, but that's okay, what you don't want, is going into the ground pretty fast. If you hold your Lander upright your entire thrust goes downwards and you don't lose any thrust on negating the movement to the side. That's something you can do after you pulled out of the dive. I heard this tip from Andreas Suika, one of the developers of The Long Journey Home, so it has to be true, right? And yes, make it a series, please!

ugggggh orbital mechanics if you want to get yourself to a lower orbit, the fastest and most efficient way is to burn retrograde, meaning away from where you're going, exactly opposite. to raise your orbit, you can do the opposite, burning prograde, in the direction you're going. i know i'm very late on this, but i want to comment this

So basically, the consensus seems to be... that (we) should (always) go with Ulysses(or maybe Endurance) and Serenity, logistics wise, for most versatile gameplay... On an unrelated note, I feel like we should be getting a 3d or isometric 3d-ish game taken from the _"Out There"_ games' universe, I'm finding it just as exciting and refreshingly inspired as was this one

The measures in this game doesnt make any sense. To the furthest edge of our galaxy from Earth is about 80000 LY, yet this game tells you are you about 120 000 LY away. Closest galaxy to Milky Way is one of the satellite galaxies and that is about 250 000 LY away from Earth. So this puts you into the black void where isnt anything.
