I wanted to share something that you've inspired and that IS WORKING amazingly well! Trying to replicate your Long Method, I started my plants in a nutrient solution of rain water, Clonex, and a water-soluble root stimulator. But here's a tweak I made that I believe has exponentially increased the chances of saving my rotting Alocasias: Once I saw new roots developing, I started adding Lechuza Pon (is all I have) to the container. Every few days, I freshen the nutrient solution and add a bit more of the substrate. Little by little, the ratio of liquid solution to rocky surround has decreased, and the plants are now at a height in the container in which the roots are no longer fully submerged---the pon is actually wicking the nutrient up to the plants, as it should, and the roots are acclimatized and functioning in a healthy, efficient way. It took about 5-6 weeks altogether, but with this long and steady approach, I've been able to heal the root rot my Alocasias were succumbing to, and I'm getting new leaves even while I'm still in the middle of winter! What do you think? Would it be wise to experiment with other types of plants? I really think starting in all hydro and slowly increasing the amount of substrate makes for a gentle-but-effective transition! If you try it my tweak, please let me know how it works for you. I appreciate all you share and all you've taught "us", your audience!
@graceakagrace
@graceakagrace Год назад
Great idea!!! I'm curious w/a few follow-up questions pls: After how many weeks did you start adding PON pls? Which water soluble root simulator did you use too? Did you experience any leaf drop?
@irairod5160
@irairod5160 Год назад
@@graceakagrace Roots starting forming around week 4 in rain water plus Clonex, so that's when I started adding pon. On week 5, I switched to rain water and Bonide 412 Root n' Grow Stimulator. No more Clonex. Yes, there was leaf drop, of course. That's what Alocasias do. They look like they're going to die, and just when you're ready to give up and toss them in the trash, they say, "Just kidding! I'm gonna grow now." They will look marvelous for a year, just long enough for you to feel confident, and then they will drop all but 1 leaf and put you through the rigmarole all over again.

I've always been curious about plants growing in water. I've made a list of houseplants that are not toxic to cats because i have 2 fur babies.. I'll be working my way down the list of experimenting with your methods, the first one on the list is watermelon peperomia couldn't find a single video on it for the life of me BUT i got reaaal lucky finding one of your videos on that plant. I'm glad ive stumbled upon your channel because of my curiosity. I've just purchased growth technology root zone and clone solution. Next is a trip to bunnings for some leca. I wanted to do leca and plant all in one vase/pot but having two compartments with the holes really makes more sense i suppose for the flush then dry and special sauce refresh. I mean i guess i could try both ways start out experimenting. The worst part is waiting for all the materials now haha. Keep up the good work 🤙🏽

@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen Год назад
Thank you for watching. About the pH, look to be honest, I try not to overthink it! There are so many scientific reasons why what I am doing should not work but the whole point of this for me is for this to be as easy as possible so if I need to be doing more than what I already doing then it is not for me. That is not to say you should not do it, I encourage you to do it if you want to. For me, that is in the too-hard basket. If my plants don't like it they will tell me. Not very helpful I know...😁 Plus also, my premixed solution never lasts that long! Too many plants, in fact my problem is making enough. I now make about 50L of solution if I am changing solution for everyone!

Does anyone know the correct "recipe" for the solution mix in the gallon jug? I followed the bottle's instructions for each but my solution is dark compared to hers.

Don't worry about the colour, a lot of the colours get mixed up when seen on screen so I would not worry about that.

Maybe I should have done that. I bought all of your supplies you use and followed your step by step guide and started putting a few plants in LECA at a time. I noticed my silver sword wasnt looking too good tonight. I switched it Saturday. I watered the moss pole and added some more solution/water mix to the cache pot. The plant looked dehydrated 😔. I hope it bounces back because I grew that from a baby to a beautiful full specimen. Im not discouraged yet just hopeful I don't have a lot of plants die lol

Do you have any advice in transferring a plug plant into semi hydro? I have a beautiful lemon lime maranta that I purchased a few weeks ago and I can’t find any info online whatsoever on converting to semi hydro. I’m assuming I would need to remove the plug.
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen 2 года назад
I almost always get very small plants nd they have plug. I simply remove them from the plug very gently, it helps to use a house and a relatively high pressure setting and then put the plant in leca or nutrient solution.

It depends on how much the water roots have grown. Some plant roots grow faster than others so hard to give a firm time period. I always look for sizeable secondary roots. If I am not sure I leave it there for a few more weeks.
