In this video we take a look at the 1962 movie the Longest Day based on the book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan.
With a large ensemble cast of famous actors including John Wayne, Richard Burton, Robert Mitchum, Curd Jürgens, Rod Steiger, Henry Fonda and Sean Connery, the film re-tells the key moments from both the Allied and Axis perspectives in the build-up to D-Day on 6 June 1944.
The film is widely regarded as a classic re-telling of the largest amphibian invasion in history and one of the major turning points of the Second World War.
With the help of AI software, we can now bring some of the iconic scenes from this movie up to four K resolution, as well as bringing colour to the original black and white version. In doing so, some of the colours in these clips will not be historically accurate, particularly for some of the military uniforms, however it brings a fresh look to iconic cinematic moments.
