Thanks so much. I’m 69 and a solid golfer with a little bit of hand arthritis. I bought the jumbo max xl, put it on my driver and worked with it on the range. I fight the hook when I go after driver and often will block it right when trying to prevent the hook. I play a Callaway Epic Speed driver and have played two rounds with this gripon the club and have hit 27/28 fairways dead center and missed one a few feet into the left rough. I got accustomed to the feel immediately and my hands feel great. I hit the ball a little higher so I dropped loft to 9.5 from 10.5 . I am hitting everything dead straight and long and I will next place them on my wedges and short irons and hope I continue to hit it as straight. They are a game changer. The cost is irrelevant as they are a few dollars more per grip but a new ball is $4 when it gets hooked into the woods!. The big problem is fitting 14 of these clubs in my current bag with the xl grips!

Honest to god the JumboMax ha completely revolutionised my game. I’ve got early onset of arthritis in my left hand pinky (RH golfer) and I’ve struggled like mad for a couple of years with my grip, never getting grip size or grip quite right. Thought I’d give these a go, firstly in my driver, and now every club - the release of tension by not feeling like I need to strangle the life out of the club has added a good club’s distance to every club (around 10-12 yards) and 20 yards of carry with my driver. Took a bit of getting used to. It now feels better than any ‘normal’ grip I’ve used and I can’t see me ever going back!

Tested their tapered grip and the straight tech grip and preferred the non tapered grip. The butt end is a little smaller diameter with less taper and allows you to grip down on the club with a similar feel for short game shots. Definitely get the lite versions if you get them. Lighter than Golf Pride jumbo size grips and similar to standard size grip weights so no change in swing weight.

I was entertaining the idea of larger grips. I am 60 and I find that with standard size grips, after a good practice session on the range, my hands ache a bit. I currently have a couple extra wraps on my PXG irons and it does help with the ache over my older clubs. Thanks...look forward to these on irons!

This would be a huge reason a lot of golfers should try this. I myself tried JumboMax 3 years ago. Just feels way more comfortable to me. I'm only 50 years old, but my hand are arthritic, so these grips really help with that. There is a little bit of an adjustment period, but shouldn't be much of a problem for a decent golfer or a good athlete. If you end up playing these grips, what's really going to be weird is goin back to regular grips. They're all of a sudden going to be way too small feeling, and you'll wonder how can anybody play these grips.

Andy.... Fitted a Jumbomax in a Medium to my Mavrik Driver and WOW!!! I took 2 or 3 swings to get used to it but after that I was nailing it. You feel like you have more control with the larger diameter grip and it seems to inspire confidence. What I noticed... Dispersion was great, carry height was consistent and hard to tell with range balls but I'd say I was averaging about 15-20 yards additional carry distance and that was achieved consistently. Very impressed so far and have ordered more. Give it a try folks.... Who'd have thunk a much larger grip could make such a difference.... Cos it does 😁

I recently changed my woods and wedges from std Tour Velvet grips to mid-sized GP MCC Plus4 grips. Even that change took some getting used to but the 'quietening' of the hands, especially the trail hand was noticeable as is the reduction in hand fatigue. Experiment completed and deemed a success, I was about to change all the irons over too but after Pete Finch and now you trying these Jumbo Max, I might hold off and give these a go. Cheers.

TXG did a test on over sized grips. I recall they found that the larger grip slowed the rate of club face closure, which is great if you tend to over draw your hybrids for example. I tried it on one of my hybrids and it seemed to work. I know that if I use that club it won't go left much. It would be no good to me with my driver though. I leave it out right too often.

I have had it on my driver for a while and love it. I am older now 75 and just find it easy to hit. But it may take you a while to get used to it. Once you do you wont change. Period. I will regrip the rest of my clubs this week and will give you some more feed back. You will not be hitting in your fingers but rather your palms as the grip is so big. I find it easy to do this and so did the greatest golfer in the history of the game. Jack Nicklaus. Now thats a great endorsement.

Andy, I switched to CP2 midsize grips. Started on my wedges. Then had them put on all my clubs in the bag. Haven't looked back since. I recently ordered some pre-owned Callaway Epic max woods and the regular grips on those felt like gripping a pencil. Had them regripped with midsize on those. Bad swings are still bad swings but i'd say the midsize grips hit the ball straighter overall.

Replacing a std grip with a jumbo also affects the clubs swing weight due to the weight of the grip! Unless other alterations are made to the club head /shaft length etc, the club should feel/swing lighter maybe adding a bit of club head speed and added distance. Just my thought.

I think this is down to things you identified - not gripping as hard - slowing the time the club gets to the ball and this results in a higher launch angle I have a feeling it will all go back to “normal “ once you got used to it
@starks1974
@starks1974 2 года назад
It appears the grip could be affecting your spin rate? That seams to be the key factor as you were sub 2000 and you launched it 100ft peak. I would focus the data points on the spin and launch & attack angle. And this also proves that Club head speed will not always produce the best yardage.

Good work Andy. I tried the Jumbomax ultra lite grip on my driver for the first time this week. Took a little getting used to but the results were much better the expected. Not sure if there was an increase in distance due to windy conditions but it was certainly straighter than I normal hit with the driver. Less movement in the air and definitely couldn’t go left which is my normal bad shot. Over drawing or pull. The driver height was possibly higher than normal which for me is a good thing. Going to stick with it and possibly try the bigger grip in the 3 and 5 woods. Carry on the good work and enjoy the content 👍🏌️‍♂️

Makes sense. I don't have large hands. I went to a midsize grip + 4 grip. I feel more confident with it. Regular grips feel small and I tend to hook with them. I can really let loose with the larger grip and put some power behind the club that I might have been holding back.

I put the large jumbo max on all my clubs. The driver is 10 yards longer and with a much tighter dispersion. My fairway wood and hybrid feel better and I’m hitting it much more consistently the irons I don’t see that big a difference but it seems to be more consistent. On my wedges I feel more confident because I think it keeps the face square, less rotation. My theory on the distance and consistency is that it relaxes the hands. If your hands are relaxed your arms are relaxed your shoulders are relaxed can you generate a better turn in consequently more whip through the strike zone.
@fatClyde
@fatClyde 2 года назад
Golf grips are only contacting and effecting hand position and pressure. These make players feel a lot more confident as it's a bit like gripping and swinging a baseball bat. As long as your swing is sound, the accuracy and direction should be similar to regular grips. If anything, these will promote a slight fade/slice for a right hander. Loved the joyful face when you launched it 250 + :)

They feel good, but 2 me they slow my release down? I have trouble squaring the face up using the very large grips! I put one on my Ping G425 Max and left EVERTHING out 2 the right with way 2 much spin! So , I replaced the large grips with a Golf Pride Tour velvet 360 midsize which is almost a small standard size grip. Results were day and night! Longer, straighter, and with much less spin!

I actually tried it myself. I put about another 15 yards onto my driver in range testing. I tend to pull the ball a little bit more but other than that the difference is quite noticeable. I picked up three JumboMax JMX Ultralite Golf Grips from ebay. Overall I think they suck! They are overpriced to start. They are difficult to install. When putting on steel shafts, the edge of the shaft easily tears them up. I got one on my graphite drive with quite a bit of effort (I've installed grips for many years). With the other two I was able to get one on my 6 iron and one on my lobe wedge, but with damage. With my driver, I now have two idential drivers with different grips. After hitting 25 shots with each driver at the range, no meaningful difference in distance or dispersion. But what really sucked was the hard surface on the grips. I got no relief in grip pressure, rather the opposite. My other grips are Winn DRI-TAC. There is a huge difference in the feel of the two grips. The Winn's are far superior. I haven't given up on oversize grips. I have some Jumbo DRI-TACs ordered. They aren't as oversized as the JumboMax, but I won't have to grip them as tight either.

@@barrynorris828 Sorry, to send you back to the drawing board👍 My own theory about Jumbomax Grips, having used them all this year is that there is a physical & psychological effect/benefits. Physically the larger Grip helps you to make better contact with the Ball by quietening your wrists and getting a square clubface at impact. The bigger Grip definitely gave me more confidence to hit the ball harder. You feel as though you have a Hammer in your hand and you just want to SMASH the Hammer into the back of the Ball! Dudes, it's easy to know why- it increases your confidence because your hands are full with max grips. As such it helps to also hit it straighter, For example have you ever seen an wood chopping ax with a skinny grip, they all have fat shafts/grips. If it were skinny shaft you'd have no accuracy whatsoever. So, yes for average golfers like 98% us are the big grips will be very helpful. But if you are a scratch golfer i don't think the grip will do anything much for you because you have already mastered the game of golf.

Great video as always. But why do you need to figure it out? It works better for you so you should use it. Who cares what the reason is. I have found with the Jumbo max grips lots of people try to talk themself out of using them. Yes they look different on the clubs but if they work that much better then what you are currently using why would you not use them. I went to them a few years back because I have a bad wrist. They have helped that issue. I hit the ball much straighter and did gain some distance. Now when I try a regular grip it feels so tiny! I will never go back.

I have small hands. I have been using mid size CP2 wrap grips with one wrap now for three years. Very comfortable to use.

No way!! Another gimmick to suck me in with promises of gains and consistency!! Looks promising though. If I had the tools at home to do it myself then I would definitely have a go as my driver could do with another grip. Maybe it's worth getting a jumbo grip on there and trialing it for a couple of months, got plenty of pro shop credit to burn anyway!!

It’s a much lighter grip so swinweight will have gone way up so more mass in the head.
@maamold

Here's my bet - the bigger grip is preventing excess the face rotation which increases the energy transfer into the ball, In effect you are compressing the ball better. In other words a hammer hitting a nail at a glancing angle does not hit the nail as hard as a square hit.

Maybe it's easier to grip the club, so grip pressure reduces? Looks like it's worth testing.

Curious how it affects your grip? If you use strong or weak grip? Does your hand wrap around grip? I know Bryson uses a different swing plane where the grip goes through palm.

So does the jumbo grip add a couple grams to the butt of the club making the head “feel” lighter and giving you a little extra club head speed???

Could be counterbalance effect moving weight further up the shaft

Could the large grip cause you to be more aggressive when turning the hands over and thus creating a little more ball speed?

also I found that the grip didn't kill the hands it delays them for better smash factor numbers
@papab3272
@papab3272 2 года назад
I think it's been mentioned already Andy but it's physics. You've increased the total club weight while reducing the club swing weight. As a result you're delivering greater mass at a higher speed and as long as your smash factor remains the same you'll arrive at greater ball speed and more distance.

Don’t think so as JumboMax Ultralite grips are comparable if not lighter than mainstream grips.

Maybe it's grip pressure not being as close to shaft or works the same as a fishing pole or gripping a baseball bat at fat end would feel lighter and faster.

Andy: Can you confirm the grip and size you used. Was it the Ultra light? Which grip size? I thought you said you used an XL in the 1st video but a large in this video?

here my results: had a few irons regripped (6,9, and 4 ) they inadvertently put midsize on the 4. Feels good, but the inconsistent action doesn't help . The point is , keep them consistent. same swing 14 clubs.......why mix the grips only to add another variable ?

I just put on golf pride multi compound midsize grips with 5 tapes. Should equal about Jumbo or a hair under. I wear an XL glove. I think this will be game changing. I’m currently a 2 handicap. Wondering if I should go to the jumbo max but I was scared to because I don’t think I like the material and I’m not sure of making that big of a leap. Seems like a Winn grip material that feels nice but doesn’t last but a couple of months.

I added mid size grips to my 5w and Hybrid (plus 2 tapes) - feel confident at address and hitting more par 5s in 2 as a result. Likely to drift to mid size on irons at some point but I’ll see how I go
