The Emigrant Trail Museum opened its doors to the public in September of 1962 on the site of the tragic Donner Pary Camps of 1846-47. It has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of visitors and descendants of the Donner Party who are drawn to the story of these pioneers who lost almost everything in their quest for a better life in California.
"The Longest Winter" is based on Emigrant's Diaries and letters, as well as research by numerous authors. It is shown daily to audiences in the museum and appeals to all age groups.
You will be transported in time to the mid-1800's an experience life on the trail as the pioneers lived it. You will gain understanding of how and why the events of the terrible winter of 1846-47 took place. You will share the anguish of the Donner Party families as they struggle to survive. Their story is a testament to the strength and courage of people faced with extraordinary circumstances.
