Twelve-year-old Ted (Zac Efron) lives in a place virtually devoid of nature; no flowers or trees grow in the town of Thneedville. Ted would very much like to win the heart of Audrey (Taylor Swift), the girl of his dreams, but to do this, he must find that which she most desires: a Truffula tree. To get it, Ted delves into the story of the Lorax (Danny DeVito), once the gruff guardian of the forest, and the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who let greed overtake his respect for nature.

Definitely a great song, but I believe they made the right choice with how bad can I be, since it's a more villainous portrayal of greed and has a more "movie style" sound. I could definitely picture some kind of musical play based around the story of the lorax where they used biggering instead, since it has more of a theatrical sound and seems like something you'd hear in a play... someone get on that 👀

11:37, in the book The Onceler regrets the environmental destruction he wreaked after the fact and tells his own story partly as a cautionary tale but doesn’t actually attempt to downplay his greed and avarice in it. The movie introduced the bit about The Onceler trying to prove himself to his family to make him more sympathetic

Ever since I watched this as a child, I did have more respect for trees because of the oxygen and not paying for it is important. Always good messages with Dr Seuss
@maozedong8370
@maozedong8370 Год назад
Trees are only responsible for about 20% of atmospheric oxygen. The vast majority comes from algae, bacteria and plankton in the ocean who account for the remaining 80%. Trees are still essential for land animals however and without them, there would be a HUGE extinction event for land animals, the likes of which we would have never seen.
@vukkulvar9769
@vukkulvar9769 Год назад
@@maozedong8370 Tree are not the most important yet still a good chunk of oxygen-makers, but they provide much needed cooling effect on lands. They turn light into oxygen rather than heat and provide much needed shade. Plus, the plants release water into the air that effect climate by causing more rain.

fun fact= Ted and Audrey are named after Ted and Audrey Geisel (the dr seuss family) and theoretically the age number both characters have are 12-14, so for this type pair it kind of works for a non disney romance or something in a funny/likable way, even though it is safe to say that Audrey if she was the one who visited the story could worked much better, no?

I kind of liked this because it's rare especially in kids movies where we see a pairing between a guy and an older girl. Usually the guy is the older one.
@phousefilms
@phousefilms Год назад
The main issue I have with the movie is that the Once-Ler is given a face. Throughout the original story(or the animated movie)the Once-Ler is constantly hidden, behind a chair or his wagon or the boards over his window. This is because he could be anyone, even a member of the audience.
@phousefilms
@phousefilms Год назад
Second issue, as I'm remembering....the family. It's the FAMILY of the Once-Ler that makes him begin harvesting the trees, not himself. I understand they wanted to make him more sympathetic, but the animated movie from years before already did that by making him have reasons he could not just stop production of Thneeds(putting his workers out of jobs and make his construction of his factories pointless).

@@DarkDragon_Midnight nor in the 2d animated either, I love to have a story that shows, not an adult that has a sad background, but someone, even within the audience or a child, could be this character that did this for no reason, or cared about the afterwards.
@nootnoot7088
@nootnoot7088 Год назад
I personally don't mind that they gave him a face because his character at the start was like your average guy with big dreams, which is something that people can still relate to or see themselves in (kind of like Peter Parker). So it would've still made his fall from grace hit hard for the audience. I do however, agree that making his family influence him into becoming greedy was a bad decision since it takes away the point of the Once-ler's character, that literally anyone can become him no matter how well-meaning they are or lacking some tragic backstory.

I read the original Dr. Seuss book back in grade school and I have to say the 2012 film version (as opposed to the 70s TV special original) does provide a better glimpse into who The Lorax is and the human characters. Some of which were made for this movie and don’t exist in the original book. For example, Ted’s crush Audrey. Although the unnamed boy is given a name here (named after Dr Seuss’s true name Theodore Geisel), Audrey (who’s not from the book) is named after his widow.

The episode where Rose kills a person who wants to destroy a tree just by yelling at the person. I have to admit when I heard Taylor Swift and Zac Efron where in this I was expecting them to have a song even at the end but nope they didn’t sing at all. It’s kind of okay because we got Ester Dean’s ending song and it’s soo good but I wanna know what a duet between Zac and Taylor would sound like.

There is a theory and it's one of my favorite theories is Ted is Onceler's grandson. When he was younger and before he became corrupted by greed her met Norma and they feel in love. Then when things got really bad and the pollution started happening, she was pregnant at the time with their daughter (Ted's mom) so he sent her away to Theendsvile so they could be safe. That's how Grandma knew so much about him and why she was able to tell Ted all that information and not only that he kinds looks like Onceler when he was young. They have a striking resemblance. It all makes sense when ya think about it.

Great reaction guys!! Honestly, the Lorax (2012) is a guilty pleasure movie for me even after learning about how much they watered down the original story (like the Once-ler actually being aware of the destruction he's causing but not stopping until the last tree fell). "How Bad Can I Be?" is my favorite song from this film but the cut song "Biggering" is definitely the superior villain song for the Once-ler and it honestly saddens me that it wasn't used in the final movie. Probably because the song makes the Once-ler "too evil" when they want him to be a sympathetic character (not a good excuse if you ask me). I also HIGHLY recommend watching the 1972 Lorax TV short. It's just around 25 minutes long but I personally think it's better than this 2012 film, especially since Dr. Seuss himself was the writer for it.

I love the Lorax. It was based on the real story and the first movie. Let it grow is my favorite song. Can you do Captain Underpants the first epic movie? 🎵🎵🎵💗💗💗

24:23, actually yes. One of the things the book is criticized for is that The Onceler never tries to do that

During the song, “How Bad can I possibly be,” the Onceler reminds me of the Digimon Emperor in Digimon Season Two. And the Lorax going up to heaven is like Wormmon’s death

The only issue with the message of this movie, is that this isn’t how commerce really works. Forestry companies are some of the greatest conservationist organizations in the world, even if only to protect their profits. That’s how plastic bottles have gotten better and better for the environment over the years: they can make them with less and less plastic, which saves money and waste.

I enjoyed the movie as a kid, but looking back, I can see that it had some major flaws (mainly the Once-ler showing his face - thus losing his 'anyone could be him' draw - and his family being the ones to push him instead of himself, but also the loss of the original's powerfully ambiguous ending in favor of this movie's generic 'big bad corporation trying to silence the little guy' climax). And after learning of the cut song "Biggering", I'm upset we didn't get that darker version of the movie - it seemed like they had a better story in mind, but corporate meddling brought it down. It's not awful by any means, but it's pretty generic now. So TL;DR, if you think this is good, then you should ABSOLUTELY check out the original movie!

Funny that the reason why they made him handsome, cute and with family issues was to make him likable, so it would feel relatable, but they didn’t get to the final point when they cut off the famous song

Fun fact about the two characters, Ted and Audrey (although I get the feeling that some people do know this): There are actually the names of Dr. Seuss and his wife, Theodor Seuss Geisel and Audrey Geisel. Ted is like the nickname for Theodor and Ted’s actual name is Theodore
