I really don’t see why people see plat 5 as an achievement in masochist, from rookie all the way to the end of gold you CANNOT RANK DOWN OR LOSE WINS. That means all you need is 35 wins IN ANY ORDER (plus 2 wins or losses for rookie) to get to plat. Anyone can do that with enough time, you can go against bots, or some people brick and surrender. Plat 4 is the true first big achievement in masochist, the furthest I’ve gotten so far is plat 3 (got there 3 times so far actually)
Plat 5 is like the 'you have at least one functioning braincell' tier, everything after requires some skill and a deck with a real wincon. Basically every maso player gets stuck in like plat 4 for ages until they have something resembling a real and consistent wincon.
whats cool about the state of the deck now is you could tech in deck dev now as you have at least 2 targets for it in mystery shell and the 2100 attacker that brings back destroyed or banished spell traps...and if dev gets popped while that monsters in your hand you can re set it...don't know how great that was...and maybe it was considered but either way I think its neat
As these have been going I've been adding the silly cards from editing onto Dueling Book (for fun). So now anyone can put Photon Croissant, The Other Samurai, or even Pancho J. Acevedo - The Rat That Exists in their deck. You're all welcome.
I added a couple rules to my maso run, nothing too crazy but I got to plat in a couple days and ruled it that I could then use the starter decks (which I ended up using ring of destruction and unexpected dai only from iirc) Other rules were things such as only being able to open legacy packs on rank up, opening 2 packs per win at the very start (up to gold), and as I've run out of gems before or come really close to it, I have this rule where I can craft a copy of a card I already own if I don't have 100 gems My deck's been hard carried by a Sky Crisis that I pulled on one of my first wins, I'm currently running a rank 4 normal monster toolbox-ish deck with a couple fallen of albaz cards and bad albaz fusions to spice it up, it's been a lot of fun and of course a big rush when you beat anything close to meta
If there were no bots, maso would probably be almost impossible unless you allowed yourself to buy a structure deck or something. Most real humans are playing a constructed deck with playsets of their key cards at minimum. Regardless of power level, a fresh maso deck winning against that is extremely unlikely. You would just have to pray to find bad players or people playing the starter decks to maybe scrape out a win, which is more or less the same as the bot situation. That's just how having a shitty, unoptimized deck full of singletons is going to be, it's called the masochist challenge for a reason.
Unironically, assuming they ran multiples of the Numeron cards, activating Limiter Removal was the correct play (or at least not strictly the worst play) Sunya wasn't Summoned with Numeron Calling, so it would've stayed on the field and prevented them from using Network again on their next turn It probably would've been better to set it just in case, but if I were in their position, I wouldn't have left unless Network got destroyed at some point. They still had cards in the ED, so even without the Gates effects, they could've still had something to do
Am only 4 minutes in but I do love Joe getting Mystery Shell Dragon, a normal summonable DARK monster with 2000 attack and then getting Deck Devestation Virus and being like "Yeah we *do* have monsters that meet that criteria, but I don't know how easily we can get them out"
I'm liking the alternate ways to get cards, especially because I'm hoping you can get some of the solo exclusive cards so that we can see them. Don't get me wrong, I like the way others do it, but it's a shame there's just some cards that are inaccessible.
Is there a reason why he's still playing the vanilla/gemini engine? There gotta be better things to do than use them as material for a high level monster's summon.
I'm gonna be honest, I am not a fan of the Masochist Challenge in it's current form. It feels like all games are either: Your Opponent plays the game: You lose with no contest :( Your Opponent doesn't play the game: You win with no contest :/ The actually interesting duels happen only like 1 in 50. I would like you to ask the Patreons if they would be fine with you changing up the challenge, IF you and/or more people feel similarly. Seeing you actually getting to play some game would be nice
