Holy smokes. I have been searching for something like this for this musical for YEARS, hunting down footage to try and cobble together a sense of what the show was like to experience live. Thank you so much for your work on this - it's really a masterpiece and you've done incredible archival work here!! THANK YOU!
Download it mirror and reuplosd the video on other video sharing sites you have no idea when youtube's algorithm will strike and decide to take down videos on random.
This was easily the most incredible experience I ever had in a theatre. Completely blew my mind. It's such a tragedy there's no proper recording of it available. I still get chills thinking about that part with Gollem slow motion falling from the rafters into the fire, with Galadriel singing behind.
Not sure how well this comes across here, but when Aragorn makes his speech at the beginning of the act, WE, the audience, are Sauron. We see Aragorn through the eye-shaped opening in the curtain. Just a little detail I thought worth mentioning.
Thank you so much for reconstructing this epic show for those of us who never had the opportunity to see it live (or who did but would love to see it again 😅)!!!
I definitely was weeping seeing this. Thank you for sharing it. There is a human participation of the audience in a theatrical production different from a movie or a television production. I definitely wish there was a revival...
The thing I'm gutted about is that the only version of the behind the scenes I can find is 240p. That was literally the reason I wanted to see the show so badly! Me and my dad had it saved on our sky box and watched it repeatedly!
The film trilogy was still fresh in people's minds as a landmark piece of art in terms of its production, scale, realism and attention to detail - which live theatre is utterly unable to match. Besides that, this type of musical wasn't what audiences were prepared to spend money on in 2008 (well, at least in quantities enough to sustain a lengthy run). It was a completely unwise decision to mount this show, at this scale, in the 2000s.
It's missing a LOT, especially from Two Towers. There's no Eowyn, Theoden, etc. I can see why it didn't do well but I would've loved to see it live. It was done so beautifully
How can I contact you please, I saw this Wonderful Musical 5 times including the very final performance at Dury Lane. ❤️ I am Still a Massive Fan and it’s the Greatest experience of my Life, Period. I have been searching since the Musical sadly finished for a DVD or Blu Ray, please can I buy a copy from you.
