I feel like it’s a good twist to have Dracula half need human blood like Lucifer rebelled because he didn’t love humans and now need their blood to survive. He hates humans and needs them and live with the thing he hates most inside of him like a great punishment

I do like this new installment...glad they didn't try to "re-hash" the original....that one needs to remain untouched !! New era/location, new tale of good verses evil.. with a "touch" of actual history : pre WWII depression in La-La Land, Zoot Suit Wars, and of course Nazis trying to gain an early foothold (there were American Nazi rallies held in this country back then).... whats not to like ?!!... I'm in

The idea behind Penny Dreadful was interesting. It would have been fun if the creators could have continued their story with other seasons, at least one more. Unfortunately, the venture was canceled and the end of the third season was botched. The story of Dracula and Satan could have been better developed and who knows, the adventures of Thimothy Dalton's character in Egypt could have introduced us to the mummy, another popular specimen in the catalog of monsters.

I like "City of Angels" because it does explore the myths and legends I grew up with as a multi-generational Angelena. I think for some people, it's not that exciting because of the lack of supernatural beings, but I see it as a combination of supernatural and human monsters. This generation of Penny Dreadful is less romanticized because it's not dark and gloomy, but is bright and is more influenced by film noir with the grittiness (even though the first film noir, "M", came out a couple of years after this is set). My biggest problem with this series is that it's plodding along. The last couple of episodes seemed to be more filler, so I hope it improves the pacing.

Watching PD 1-3 was wonderful to watch again , tried city of angels only interesting character was the brilliantly acted Nazi , the story arch was all over the place & I didn’t continue

Hi! Haven't seen the recent Penny Dreadful:City of Angels,but will put on list. Excellent critique on the origins of this movie!! I watched the original and I thought it was phenomenal! Did you watch the movie "Them?" Connecting the paranormal and the race problem was flawless to me. Very powerful indeed! Carry on

I wish there was more penny dreadful incorporating more myths and creatures weather old or new I find the world created inside the show to be so interesting and sharing many similarities with the strain

I don’t like city of angels because of the lightings and the lore of the story? It’s kind of confusing to understand what is going on? So many stories trying to keep up?

Nice analysis. I looked at Og as a Greek drama in structure and Christian (Catholic) theology. PD2 is, well, dreadful.

I tried to watch City of Angels right after binge-watching the original and the original beats it hands down. There is no comparison. The original was far superior. The sorry line, the world-building, the characters, the cast. It was much better in the original.

HUH? So, is the woman in black Penny Dreadful in the series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels? Is she the mother of evil and who is the mother of evil? Is she the sister to Death?

The mother of Evil is a reincarnating role in the series. Typically the protagonist. So yes, Vanessa the protag was the mother of Evil in this adaptation. Idk about in the City of Angels version. Hope it helps.

The old myths and tales: The Whore of Babylon in the Bible (she's really not but she's been branded it as she explains and even is taunted with it) Persephone and Hades (Dracula) in the Underworld. There are probably others reflected here too.

Let's face it . City of Angels is utterly boring and has zero to do with the Penny dreadful series. Absolutely bullshit stolen name and shit writing. Utterly destroyed the penny dreadful franchise. Bring back the original penny dreadful series. Much better writing much better acting and a superior story line. City of angels is dreadful that is the only thing it deserves from the name of the franchise.

Is written by the same author of the original John Logan! The network asked him to do the series. He came up with this new spin-off.

@@Ocasiootoko It's not even in the same league. If he were smart, he would have figured a way to go back to t he true Penny Dreadful story. There's so much that was left to be told with Venessa Ives, the ultimate character.

@@SquareInsider I never liked this new series. The original was shut down so suddenly because of apparently the production costs were escalating and the ratings were down, and CBS the owners of the show weren't going to keep pouring money into a show that didn't make any profits. I created that comic book/cartoon story to give some clear origin to who Vanessa really is. I think you're confusing my comment with someone else's. Honestly the network was very hypocrite with John Logan. Penny Dreadful deserves at least one more season of 10 shows to tie up the dozens of loose ends from the third season, but then Chris King, executive producer, sent the show's ideas to the comics that followed about a year later.

City of Angels SUCKED. They should have done something 50 years or 100 years earlier. Jack the Ripper or New England Salam Witches or even the Headless Horseman. They should have kept in an early industrial age or Victorian era to keep all the gothic mystery. Even have people go to Egypt as archeologists and discovering some of the ancient lore. They totally blew it with the 2nd show. An uninteresting time. An uninteresting place. An uninteresting topic.

The first three seasons were superb, the fourth was very good but it was too much of a departure from the previous characters that it felt like a completely different show even though it was a cool idea having Rory come back to play Peter Craft in that 4th season. wouldn't mind a 5th season at all if the old cast comes back
