Peter and Wendy embody all that is wrong with modern love. The selfishness, idealism, stagnation- desire for a woman to never change and a man to grow up. This looks like a fabulous movie, also exploring escapism and the predatory nature of preserving or stealing innocence out of its proper time.
Oh FFS, its a movie, if you dont like the story line then dont watch it, simple, but it no more embodies what is "wrong with modern love" than Nightmare on Elm Street "embodies" whats wrong with modern sleep patterns.
@@AussieNaturalist So when I said "This looks like a fabulous movie" above am I allowed to watch it now? lol It's a great thing when film and art explore really relatable roles or issues we experience. It provides perspective as well as entertainment. Relax your tits, AN.
Finally, an actually good "dark" Peter Pan take that does actually align with the original book and its themes without taking too many liberties (while still being otherwise wholly original)
@@dianeyoung8130 In the book (haven't read the play) Tinker Bell dies, and Peter literally forgets that she ever existed. It's a very sentimental novel, and I enjoy it quite a lot, but there are very dark undertones.
Is it only me? When I watched Peter Pan for the first time, even as a kid, I always thought of him as creepy rather than dreamy. I mean sure he's handsome and has that boyish charisma, but something about him is scary. Like he has a hidden agenda. Has anyone of you read the books and know the analysis behind it, because Peter Pan is one of those movies that takes me back to my childhood. He is like the protagonist/antagonist of his own story.
Then you analyzed it spot on. Peter represents the danger of never growing up. It's not about letting go of your childhood, because childhood is something that's important to always remember and keep in your heart, but responsibility and simple adult life will always rise to the forefront. As the book says, to live is an awfully big adventure.
i’ve always loved the more demonized version of peter pan like in the show once upon a time it just makes for such a good story and is so much better than the disney versions
I love the twists Once Upon A Time put on all of the main disney stories. As a kid disney version was cool but as an adult OUAT's version is more enjoyable.
This looks super interesting! I was always very sad they didn't make a sequel to the mid-2000s live-action so I am actually really up for this. Plus, gotta love a bit of Louis Patridge 😊.
@@adaywithsharae7954 That one is from the 90's. There are actually two more Peter Pan movies, although not related to one another, one came out on 2003 and the other one is from 2015. There's also about to be yet another adaptation coming either this year or the next one but from Disney
I have loved this book since I was a teen myself and I am SO EXCITED that it’s finally getting a movie! No one ever knows this book - The Lost Girls by Laurie Fox.
Louis partridge gives off the similar vibe that Robbie Kay did when he played Peter Pan in once upon a time, that kind of dark and chilling aura. Definitely portraying the creepier version than the one Disney portrayed
In the original story of Peter Pan the lost boys that he took to neverland when growing into adults, they joined the pirates so after that happened whenever a lost boy got older, Peter would take them into jungle/forest to kill them
@@winterbutterfly8861 like the original Peter Pan story, Disney and other childhood books and movies are versions of the original, the original is really dark, the guy who wrote it was James Matthew Barrie, he wrote it in 1904
@@marssnottheplanet thank you so much, actually i read the original a while back when I was still a kid and I still have the copy but clearly I didn't remember much, the disney and mid 2000s movies let me a more innocent story that I extended to the book in my memories. Wow, that's dark, I'm not so sure I'd read that to my children 😐
You sure? I don't remember that from the J. M. Barrie original. There was a comment about 'trimming' them so they could fit through the opening of their tree, but nothing about the boys becoming pirates.
I might have been willing to give it a go if Young Wendy's wig wasn't so bad, but with that said, the visual completely halted my ability to "willingly suspend disbelief" to enjoy this film 😂
No cause same Idc how twisted or evil he would be id still fly away with him lol Like if it happened. Otherwise like if I had the choice for it to happen idk 😭
The budget … also why is Hook kissing older Wendy’s neck wtf 😭 a lot of questions I mean I’m excited to understand the plot better but this movie seems slightly odd
Did you know the actor who plays her father usually plays hook too? It’s been like that since the play back in the day. So that adds an extra ick factor to it for me lol
I grew up watching Peter Pan. I remembered borrowing the movie from Video City every Sunday. It was so perfect for my innocent young eyes. Now that I grew up, I've realized how creepy, dark and imperfect the concept of Peter Pan. I have watched a lot of dark sides of children fairytales, and I think even without it, I will still realize how dark and creepy the story is.
Someone asked what if Captain Hook is really the good guy? What if he only goes after Peter because he's trying to stop what he does.. Hook never goes after the kids.. Only Peter.. Something to think about
Hook is afraid of death. He's she same as Peter Pan, it's just the adult version. He's afraid of the crocodile, who represents death, and the clock in his stomach that keeps ticking.
Wow never thought about that. he does capture the lost boys to make them walk the Plank, but they were more bait for Peter. Also maybe walking the Plank was a apology for being set free from Neverland. Death like rebirth, time to grow up.
Oh shit this is actually similar to the book itself. I always thought it was a bit creepy how at the end of the book we are told that Peter always takes every of Wendy’s female descendants to Neverland.
It's important to remember that Peter is locked into the body of a child, the body affects the mind. Even being alive for thousands of years if the body doesn't grow the mind will forever be that of a child, undoubtedly a twisted one in peters case. Children can be extremely cruel because to they are very selfish being who has yet to learn empathy and taking responsibility for their own actions, this can be treated through guidance from parents but peter never had any hence causing him to be a being who lives outside the moral grounds of society. His actions come of predatory because he is basically a hurt wild animal getting back at a society that failed him. And he does so by taking away children. Probably with good intentions initially but them growing up feels like a betrayal to him so he kills them, further aggravating his mental issues. It's an evil circle..
@@jgold8585 What Chamsel Bach said. Also, the fairies were expressly stated to be returning from an orgy the night Wendy arrived in Neverland. The book was freaking weird.
Peter Pan is around the age when most boys start going through puberty. So he is stuck in a constant state of puberty with the mind and desires of a child. He can't get past it and he doesn't have an adult to help him understand what is happening to his body and mind.
@@jenm473 I was about to comment that this trailer makes the movie look like a thriller... peter gives them drugs, then they become addicted to him and he has his way with them... .then when he gets bored with them, returns them back to the real world
@@Moshi_Ach_Loki-Eko It looks like that and then they’re all like sad each time but then they’re all like but you meet this boy his name is Peter he’s dreamy it’s fine. it’s not. it’s not grandma it’s not fine
That's because in the original story it's much more innocent (Peter is a kid not a teen) so it's less like the moms saying "hey daughter, we all get to date this dreamy guy when we reach a certain age isnt that great" and more like them saying "Peter, I've grown up and I've moved on from your childish naivity, but you can take my daughter on adventures while she's still young if you want".
I like how love with Peter Pan is like first love. The thrill, the hope, the adoration, etc. Very "twilight" in nature. But reality isn't like that. We all "grow up", move away, break up, leave behind, that first love. We all change. We all "grow up". And I like how this movie seems to show that, that as much as you wanna go back, you can't, but others (your daughter/grandchildren) will always experience as you once did. Their first love, too.
And this is exactly why I was never fond of Peter Pan even as a kid. Surely he has that boyish charm and adventurous spirit but him having side chicks from generation to generation from Wendy always seemed creepy to me. I hope this movie explores that creepy aspects.
@@pearlrowell. It's because in the Disney version it never really happened (the only girl he showed any attraction to was Tiger Lilly and she was the one who hit on him)
Just watched the movie and man oh man! When the ending hit you with the “for mothers and daughters” I was like, what about the poor husbands in the movie who had to deal with their deranged wives!? One’s wife leaves him to take care of their daughter by himself and the other can’t get over feelings of an imaginary boy she spent one night with. ONE NIGHT! She’s in her 30s or 40s and still has feelings for a teenage Peter she spent one night with! Both mother and daughter had strong feelings for Peter which is weird. Yeah, stick that “for mothers and daughters” up your butt.
If anyone is interested in a "dark" Peter Pan, then I highly recommend the show 'Once Upon a Time'. It has a lot of twisted fairytales, and Peter Pan is a villain in it. its soooo good
i remember hoping when i was a kid for peter to come and take me away so i can finally have a childhood I never have growing up in an abusive household. Never realize how creepy the story was till now.
peter pan has always been my favourite so i cant explain how excited I am for this because It truly represents the darker and real side of the old peter pan movie
Peter Pan Syndrome is a real thing. However, it is not to be confused with an Existential Crisis which is no more than the ensemble of feelings and questions we have to do with the meaning and purpose of our life; inner conflicts characterized by the impression that life lacks meaning.
About time they did a remake with Jane in it 😅 even though its different I'm glad cause it was my fav movie. But anyway. This twist looks new, fresh and I'm excited to see what happens
i was listening to Taylor Swift's 'cardigan' and the moment the line 'Peter losing Wendy' came on, I saw this trailer. It was like fate, lol, I so damn wanna watch this movie now. :)
Very interesting take on Peter Pan, however the production quality makes this a no from me. There's a way to do low-budget fantasy/aesthetic movies, but this isn't it.
That movie actually did have a few sequels that were all pretty straight-to-dvd-like so not many people know there are really 4 all together. The Peter Pan references end with the first one though 😔😭
I was pretty disappointed by this film. The idea that they went for was incredibly complex and original and I think that with the right writers and actors, and with better visual effects, it could have been an incredible film. My issues with it are: 1. The discussions of Peter always returning and messing up the family is really interesting but just never fully developed. Also the whole Hook-Pan being like the same person/mind in a way (or at least that's how I interpreted it) is weird because it raises a lot of questions about a)Is the manipulation of Peter's age/looks compared to Hook's weird because they're like the same mind with the same ulterior motives. b) If this is all a figment of imagination kind of thing, why is she imagining this assault from Peter or Hook anyway? 2. Peter has 4 separate dynamics with the mothers and daughters of the Darling family, 3 of them being romantic but not one has any anti-climax, it all builds up and just kind of stays there. 3. Why are half the darling girls british and half american, and why is young wendy's accent so different to old wendy's? 4. Literally nothing happens with Berry, we literally do not understand it even though we see him guiding her onto how to fly. 5. I understand this is meant to be a more sinister Peter Pan but like... why all the neck kissing n shit without asking
