Icebergs are less of a trend at this point, mainly because they stand as a deep dive of any given topic’s information, and are just really interesting long videos in any case.
I'm sorry, but did somebody literally complain about a comedy show because the jokes were too smart? I would take that as a goddamn compliment if somebody said that to me.
The same thing happened to Police Squad. The executives thought that it was too clever and that audiences wouldn't be able to process so many jokes at once.
I could see someone like Reni Wassulmaier to be the host, she would evenly host Flashback FM one decade after Vice City Stories events, if Rockstar wanna they could bring her to the HD Universe.
1940s: "Wow, this looks great despite being 80 years old" 1970s: "Man, look at how they all dressed. Why did everyone look 20 years older than they were back then? @@csweezey18 there's a real phenomenon about people from past decades looking older than they were. it's thought to be a combinations of lifestyle and medical improvements, but more significantly: hair and clothing. gotta love the apology from the network throwing the classic "we're sorry IF these girls were hurt." lik.e.....???THERE WAS A LAWSUIT ABOUT IT. OF COURSE THEYRE HURT AND PROBABLY DISTURBED/TRAUMATIZED?? that one was absolutely horrifying to hear.
Funny fact actually, Vana and Pat used to film multiple episodes in the same day back then, but you were allowed 2 drinks at lunch time on the premises. They would go across the street to a bar, get further more drunk through the day, and it shows in some of the episodes that they're clearly more drunk than the one from the day before.
The 70s run of Match Game taped a week's worth of shows in one day, and they would have a "lunch" break (more of a drink break in reality) after taping the Wednesday episode. As a result, the Thursday and Friday shows were always a riot. Having seen reruns, I can tell which ones were Thursday and Friday shows, mainly from how Brett and Charles were behaving (Fannie Flagg said that they both hit the vodka martinis particularly hard)
@@slacktivism05 yeah i have no idea how that got anywhere, let alone with the apparent success it did. watching someone bowl in wii sports would've been more entertaining if that, and youtube, was around in the 70s.
Maybe if they did it commentary style like a podcast or Jerry Seinfeld's show about getting coffee, it'd be less about the bowling and more about their conversations
I was a kid who loved "Whew!" when it was on TV. There was one episode where a contestant was super-excited about winning, jumping up and down, and then a hard cut to the host, saying the contestant had broken his leg while jumping up and down, so they had to start the next game with someone new. I wonder if that's still online.
This is why people (celebrities or otherwise) often don't tell anyone about becoming pregnant these days. Miscarriages are common, especially early on.
The woman who just died on-stage sounds so sad. Did she get so excited from winning that something happened? Was she dead before she slumped over? It sounds so... ambiguous.
It sounds like it was a heart attack or brain aneurysm, or another sudden medical event like that. She was probably dead before she realized anything was wrong. At least she spent her final hours achieving something a lot of people never will.
I always loved the fact Jackie gleason just said screw it I know the show sucks let me just be funny and apologize for 30 minutes lol I wish more comedians with bad shows pulled a Jackie Gleason lol

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind sponsors, in fact, I'm glad he's getting sponsors money. But that's still the weirdest frigging sponsor I've ever seen. How did a cologne and perfume company see a channel about conspiracies and creepy or unsettling disappearance and go : ''yeah, this is a perfect fit for our brand.''
Lol they work with a lot of the true crime channels I watch, too. I guess they did their demographics research. Probably not so much about the topic, and more about who tends to watch these channels, including Jorge’s - young, likely creative and/or intellectual people who appreciate attention to detail and have the luxury of disposable leisure time for deep dives into things (and disposable time often means disposable income) 🤷🏻
I’ve seen them advertise on Whang, wavy, and internetAjay too so I think it is just about demographics matching who is likely to subscribe to their service. I don’t think most brands look to advertise on channels due to any similarity in concept
I mean, if he subscribed to it for years beforehand he probably reached out to *them* to get a sponsor. I guess he just wanted to share his preferences? Idk, if he didn't say he was subscribed to this service it wouldn't make sense, but since he does that answers it for me
I used to be a paid audience member for game shows and did a lot of pilots. There’s a lot of shows people will never see. But are forever in my mind. Did the show hypnotize me ever air?
Here's something of note. My grandfather was on To Tell The Truth, but his game got cut off by Jimmy Carter's inauguration speech. Now, there was someone out there who preserved the episode among many others, but their offer was that you have to pay for them, and you're not allowed to upload it anywhere. I feel bad for the one contestant they were talking about who seemed to have a panic attack at the legends of the hidden temple gameshow, it kinda sucks how most likely if that was aired, just imagine the amount of people confused or worried or making fun of her for her reaction. I guess it is "unusual" that she had that reaction but still in an environment like a kid's game show, having a serious distressful moment like that leaves scars on an individual. I even had panic attacks when I go to theme parks and it's embarrassing because everyone is usually happy and enjoying themselves while you're completely frantic. Maybe I'm looking too deep into this because I have problems with having breakdowns in public spaces and the sheer embarrassment & shame that comes with it. But yeah, crazy video Jorge.

@metta I totally feel you. The embarrassment that comes after you have a meltdown in front of others is just unbearable! And to add salt to the wound, I was always punished for having meltdowns growing up, when my parents CLEARLY know I’m autistic! My life sucks man :(
It sounds like it could've happened during the same production run that had the infamous episode where a Temple Guard ended up scaring a contestant right through the fourth wall of the temple set and out of the temple (I believe it was in the Tomb room right below the Shrine of the Silver Monkey that the incident took place).
Still love icebergs, people are getting more and more off the beaten path to distinguish themselves from the big popular topics. Fascinating to learn about stuff you didn't even know existed!
In regards to Scratch & Sniff's Den of Doom, part of the show's gimmick is that they would sometimes deadass just give these children trick questions to pretty much guarantee they get it wrong. One that I remember was "What was the tallest mountain before Mt Everest was discovered?" The answer was of course "Mt. Everest."
Low key want to go dig in my Grandmother’s storage locker (with her permission) for her old tapes. I think icebergs have become my favorite format for media topics. They build to more and more fascinating (or dark) subject matter as they go on, and keep my attention on what could be revealed next. I also love how long the iceberg vids tend to get, perfect for when I wanna listen to something while working on projects or cleaning. I havent gotten tired of them yet and if you ever decide to do another one, I'd be all over it
I agree with this 100%. Icebergs are such a great video format. You really don’t know what’s coming next and by the time you’re done you feel like an expert in that topic.

From what I've read a lot of the Nickelodeon game shows had the kids there filming long days so I kinda can see why the kid had a small mental breakdown during filming
Legends of the Hidden Temple in particular often had very long, drawn out production days. Like many other game shows of the 90s (and today), the episodes were filmed in chunks, but due to the size limitations of the soundstages at Nickelodeon Studios, filming was usually done in a way where every group would do a certain segment before the next one would be rolled out. For the contestants, this meant that they spent a very long time waiting in the green room, either for other contestants to wrap up, for instance, the Steps of Knowledge, or wait for their turn to appear on the segment. By all accounts, filming could last 17 hours, with some season 3 episodes notably being taped without a live studio audience for the Temple Runs because filming had gone beyond the operating hours of Universal Studios Orlando. An average filming day for Legends of the Hidden Temple would start at 7 in the morning, and not wrap up until midnight that day.
@@carsausage Holy crap. That sounds exhausting for the adults let alone the kids. Where'd you learn about all that? I love finding out behind the scenes stuff of shows I watched.
Plus if the kid doesn’t know much of it, it can be scary. I heard of another Hidden Temple episode where a contestant got so scared upon encountering a temple guard they ran off the set.
Wasn’t there also this game show with a really creepy host who always asked the contesters (who were usually small children) to kiss him on the lips. Sometimes he would get a little pushy with it. I unfortunately can’t remember where I heard about this but I am certain it is real because I watched footage of it on RU-vid, as the show itself was around, but also ended, long before I was born.
Ten years ago a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem and no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-team.

You know the one thing that always bugged me about that lost Double Dare episode was how did the kid's lawyer even succeed in suing the show for that tv when the case would've been on dead on arrival due to the kid lying about the condition of his bones? Another piece of lost media (since Ru Paul's Drag Race was included) is the footage of Angelea Preston winning Cycle 17 of America's Next Top Model: All Stars. After initially winning, the producers discovered that between her cycle and the all star cycle, Angelea worked as an escort, thus disqualifying her. After realizing this, Angelea was stripped of her title and the segment where the winner was announced was re-recorded to only include Lisa DeAmato and Allison Harvard. The footage of Angelea winning has never surfaced.

About RuPaul's Drag Race Sherry Pie Unedited Footage (spoilers for Season 12): First, it's a competition AND reality TV show, meaning it not only focuses on competition and challenges but also on the storyline. This storyline has to be produced by the producers as the show is filming, which is months (sometimes even a year) prior to its airing. The editing is also done some time before. This means that the editors and the producers kinda have to guess who is going to be well recieved and who they want to be part of the storyline. Sherry, unfortunately, was a good competitor, and made it to the top 4, so she was present every episode and had to be edited out of the storyline and some challenges LAST MINUTE. This also means that she was a BIG part of the storyline, and most likely was set up to be a fan favorite, even a potential winner. Besides this awful situation (and the fact that it aired during the pandemic), Season 12 is seen as one of the best seasons of Drag Race, with one of the most popular casts (except Sherry ofc). Its main issue is the weird storyline. Because it had to be re-edited, it has much less drama, leading fans to speculate that not only was Sherry a big part of the storyline, she was the MAIN FOCUS. Runner-up Gigi Goode recieved a very weird edit, and she was speculated to be the "villain" of the season's storyline, with Sherry acting as the "hero". Winner of the season Jaida Essence Hall also had a weird edit; compared to previous winners, it was like she wasn't part of the storyline at all. The unedited episodes of Season 12 are lost media, and they are of interest to the fanbase, not because we want to see Sherry, but because we want to see what the original storyline of the season was, and how each competitor played a part in it, including their relations with Sherry along the competition. PS: the finale of the seasons is not filmed months in advance (except All Stars Seasons), but even if it was, they always film multiple crownings, so we wouldn't be at risk of Sherry winning. This is done because Drag Race has a HUGE community of spoilers, made up of reliable insiders or people with connections who "spill tea" about what's going to happen on the season as it is filming/before it airs. There's been instances of photos of alternate crownings being leaked before the airing of the season.
Jon Stewart: "The water mixed with their fecal matter and sprayed on two thirteen-year old girls" Some creep in the audience: "Whoo!" I want to know who this creep was, where they live, and what they're allergic to
I'd be okay with my episode not airing if it would mean that nobody gets to see anything embarrassing I might do on the show. Who wants to be that guy who gets recognized by past college or work friends when they stumble upon your episode and then see you go home with small winnings or do something silly like fart on air?
It's even worse when it does see the light of day but is never to be seen again. Happened to my mom when she was on Jeopardy and the VHS tape of her episode got overwritten
Personally I would categorize lost media into something like this, by obscurity: - Found - Partially Found/Located - Existence Confirmed - Existence Uncertain - Destroyed or, by content: - Normal - Slightly Disturbing - Disturbing -- might stay in your head, but it's whatever - Nightmare -- will stay in your head and make you regret - Illegal Great video as always :)
One last one for the obscurity category, but it would be used for _very_ specific cases, and most entries of this category would probably only be included via Grandfather Clause: - Existence Debunked -- It was thought to exist at one point, but has been confirmed to be falsified.

"Seriously Dude I'm Gay" Sounds hilarious, if done right. Considering it was 2004, I doubt it would've been. But if it was done now, I would totally watch it. I would love to see a bunch of gay guys judging straight men trying to act gay. That sounds like some great commentary.
Like gay guys would be able to see through some of these guys and point out when they're playing into stereotype. If headed by LGBT production, it might be a way to challenge homophobic views and media. Still how do you screen them out to make sure they're actually straight? So many gay and bisexual people manage to pass of as straight or have partners of the opposite sex. It's highly possible a whole bunch would try to get onto the show for the prize money and/or meme. Plus sexuality is so fluid and that's not even counting for non binary people who look male. Even if you included heterosexual masculine presenting NBs or gender fluid people (which in itself might be interesting), most of the lineup would be cis men and really it'd just play into the already existing divides. The idea is such a product of its time, reflecting its ignorance and pervasive and blatant homophobia and I'm glad it wasn't made a thing.

Lost media is so fascinating to me. Especially things like unaired episodes or pilots never being picked up. Imagine all the work and effort to create a show, build a set, hire staff and crew, be a part of a studio audience or even compete! Only for it to never see the light of day. Especially with so many people having the goal of being on TV, imagine your 30 minutes of fame shelved and can’t be proven.

actually, the networks had good reason to enforce an integrity policy. there was a huge scandal in the 50s due to game shows being rigged quite often which led to integrity policies being enforced afterwards
I remember one of the times when Pat Sajak was co-hosting on Live with Regis & Kelly he noted, "There are people out there who think we can control the game, like we have some button to press to stop the wheel! We can't do that. Back in the 1950s, there was a huge quiz show scandal and rules were put into place. I'm not going to federal prison so someone can win a refrigerator or something!"
The premise of "You're in the Picture" sounds like a decent Whose Line is it Anyway segment (it's basically a more visual version of Press Conference), but understandably not a sustainable idea for an entire game show.
I wish you could have mentioned (even as an honorable mention) VH1’s Megan Wants A Millionaire and the controversy surrounding the cancellation since there were only 3 episodes aired until the cancellation because one of the contestants was actually involved in a murder…

I literally formed and believed in a conspiracy theory because the truth was that absurd to me. Cut to a few years later and more knowledge about lost media and, yep, corporations really were that stupid.
@@SoloFalcon1138 the really big ones like wheel of fortune, jeopardy!, and family feud definitely became pop culture icons, but other than those, they haven't really spread that much into the mainstream seeing as it can be seen as a dull, niche medium.
@@SoloFalcon1138 iirc doctor who wasn't really meant to be as popular as it is now, it's basically filler show if that makes sense. dunno about the others tho
You know how some people who really excel get called "unstoppable forces?" I think Marc Summers is an immovable object. It took a kid compound-fracturing both of his own arms just to make Summers vomit offstage. I probably would have fainted from shock in that situation.
This reminds me of an incident on a German game show "Wetten, dass...?" (Wanna bet, that...). [basis for the British show You Bet! and the American show Wanna Bet?] Samuel Koch, a 23-year-old aspiring stuntman, became a quadriplegic during a stunt performed on the show on 4 December 2010. The incident was broadcast live. The contestant took on a bet in which he was to try to jump over five moving cars using spring-loaded boots. the stunt went wrong during the fourth jump when Koch failed to clear the car, driven by his own father. The contestant fractured two cervical vertebrae and damaged his spinal cord.
He died from his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. The moderator at that time was good friends with Samuel Koch and stopped moderation soon after. However the show did continue for 4 more years
@@rip_cantwin i saw the live Show. A He is not dead. And B Thomas Gottschalk (the Moderator). Was not a Friend. It was basicly the end of the Show even if it went on for a while
