Not true! They all migrated from Nigeria. This ones speaks recent Oyo dialect because they're recent migrants. You can hear her say she's from Nigeria but when she get's to Nigeria, she finds it difficult to blend with Nigerian system. Only one town in Togo that has a link with but they no longer speak Yoruba. They migrated from ife long time ago, may be 15 something. i think the name of the tribe is Ife. Like the Yorubas in Port Novo Benin Republic, those ones are still from Oyo. They are warriors who conquered Dahomey and intermarried with them. That's why they look like them but they still steal a dialect of the Oyo. Tje word Yoruba is a recent word and it's strange to to all the people who migrated from Nigeria 100+ years ago. There
@@ariseshinebright8845My brother please do not use the word migrated from Nigeria for Yorubas in other parts of West Africa especially Benin and Togo. The fact that majority of Yoruba are found in a country called Nigeria now does not mean the others migrated. Yes we have immigrants from Nigeria so also the indigenous as well. They were part of the Old Oyo empire.
@@ariseshinebright8845You shot yourself in the leg! Over 100+, according to you, there's no Nigeria then. They moved to trade in Togo as far back as 200 years ago.As such, they are Yoruba people.
Yoruba remains the largest well spread tribe in West African ,extended to Cuba,Brazil, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago,Togo,Ghana, benin republic but I pray to Almighty God to take Yoruba nation out of boundage of naijiria,so that will could attain our dream
@@emmanueladeniji9096I think our land ends in Atakpame in Togo. Although we have Yorubas who have recently settled in Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire too in the 1900's.
These ones settled in Lome Togo in the 1900's. They're not lost, though. They love Lome because the indigenous people accepted them and they're doing well in the society. They don't even want to come back to Nigeria. I know them very well! The Togolese society is so good to them!
they are indigenous to that area. The colonial masters divided the yoruba nation into three parts, and that is the reason why you see yorubas in nigeria, benin republic and Togo. Only the yorubas in ghana migrated to that part of west africa as traders. All of them originated from Ile-Ife. If you ask them, they will tell you they are from ile ife like every other yoruba
I am a Yoruba as well as a Yoruba and as a matter of fact, I love that and am very proud of both my Yoruba ancestors. I love my Ashanti connection as well even though Ashantis are some how. I made it known to my Oyinbo children that they are Yoruba.
Nice one. This reminds me of why I took a DNA test. My dad indiacted we migrated from Modake during the unrest and settled in Gbongan Osun state, and this sparked the DNA interest. The results came back with over 30% from the region referred today as Benin/Togo. Would definitely visit this environment one day to explore my ancestry further👍
The soup is Ghanaian, it is called krakra in Akan, note that Ga prefer palmnut soup and eat it with kapala, a maize-like. Yoruba dominate the whole of West Africa. The largest single tribe in Africa, South America. Yoruba is now the biggest ethnic in Britain, Canada and the USA. The Yorubas are great people.
Please do your research very well to distinguish indigenous Yoruba people of Togo, Benin from Yoruba immigrants from Nigeria. Yoruba are not only indigenous to Nigeria but other parts of West Africa. For a start go and read about the sons of Oduduwa and their current nations
Yoruba extend up to Ghana. We have ketu in Nigeria Benin, Togo and Ghana. Accra was established by a yoruba man from ilorin. People may say otherwise but the word ACCRA came from Akara in yoruba because it was Akara they were frying in the place by the yorubas that migrated to establish the place. The Ga and EWE traced their background to ILE IFE. The yorubas in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia were returned slaves. Many found their ways back like the popo Aguda from Brazil, rose vivour from Sierra Leone. Pereira, fereira, macaulay, etc
Can my grandfather, who is a Yoruba from Ilorin be one of the early founders of Accra, Ghana? I sometimes wonder how my father and his siblings (grandpa has 2 wives)were all born in Accra. My grandfather has more than 2 houses at Cow-lane, Accra and beside Cow-lane is dominated by Yoruba from Ilorin.
It's just a matter of time, we're merging all the Yorùbá lands back together to form a whole new country! The British has really messed things up, but there's still hope!
The Yoruba people in Togo are not lost. They are indigenous to Togo and they are most located in the central region of Togo. Their major cities and towns include Atakpame which is the third largest city in Togo. Their own variant of Yoruba is known as Anago and also Ede.
@@AfamOrjiOsun state they are telling you is ile ife, they left when there was nothing like Osun state but since ile ife is now in Osun state, they will tell you they came from Osun state
Lost..(Yorubas) really you guys need to mind what you post,,in your video you heard them said they are from Nigeria right,,if you don't know about people, don't just waka waka..and you guys need to do some research about Yorubas history,,strat from Benin Republic, cote d lvoire, Togo,,all the way to ghamba you can feel Yoruba culture and there languages..
Thank jare! That's a very, very wrong word to use for the people who were even telling you that they emigrated from Nigeria but preferred to stay in Lome! They said in in clear language.
@@adamutanimu3219But, have you been there before? If someone comes from Nigeria and tells you that he's in a place that is organised, why do you want to argue with him when he has seen what you've not seen! I've lived in in that country before and I can tell you for free that he knows what he's talking about. The whole country is well organized and clean. It's not Lome alone but the entire country!
The reason many yoruba in Togo benin ect trace back to oshun state may be the fact that Ile ife is in oshun and most yoruba communities migrated to those places from Ile ife to establish yoruba kingdoms all over west Africa. I am not saying it's like that but that's what I assume!!!
❤❤❤❤❤ Afam you are simply the best, my regards to your lovely team, thanks for this lovely video,😢😢😢😢 quite shameful Nigeria is been referred to as a very dangerous country by those ladies, what a pity 😢
Yes, they know so well what they're talking about! They like in a very, very peaceful, clean as well as well organized country! I've lived there before so I know what they're talking about! I'd rather live in that country all my life than go to live in America or Europe! Mind you, I've also live in France before!
Afam, the Yoruba people in Togo are not lost, it is a pity that History is no longer part of our academic curriculum in Nigeria. If you had taken History back in high school, you should have learnt that Togo was part of the old Oyo empire of Nigeria. It was the colonialists that broke us up which resulted in parts of the old Oyo empire being in Nigeria, and the other parts in Togo.
There are Oduduwa (Odu'a) people as far as Benin and Togo and parts of Ghana.. They are called different names in different areas. Yoruba is a more recent name. These are not modern day 'migrants' but indigenes.
Yorubas are not lost ethnicity in Togo Bro. 😂 For more educcatiin purposes, Yorubaland is not limited within Nigeria alone, it extend till Togo. Europeans, the French and the British divided Yorubaland into three countries.
Togo is ahead of most states in Nigeria.i cannot compare it with the whole of Nigeria because not thesame level of population . Please help me to compare Delta,Edo State In Nigeria and Togo which is more develope they even have stable light we don't have here in Delta State
U are not just, Togo where is ahead of whr in Nigeria?! U hv to specify.. don't forget, lome is d capital, mayb that's their own gwarimpa or wise 2 or vi
There are Yorùbás that are indigenous to Togo, just like they are in Benin Republic and Nigeria. Same names and similar culture with their families in Nigeria and Benin Republic. There are also Yorùbás who have migrated there... the likes of Emmanuel Adebayo's parents. Those whose ancestors emigrated there are mostly from Ọ̀sun and Ọ̀yọ́ State in Nigeria. The Gans in Ghana are also Yorùbá descents from from Ilé-Ifẹ̀. Some Yorùbás are also indigenous to Sierra Leone.
@theyoung8142 Ife is not a dialet. If it is a dialet, of which ethnicity? Ana-Ife is an ethnicity in Togo with a population of 2.8%.The Yoruba Indigenous People of Togo, also known as the Ife settlers, migrated from Ija-Oku in former Dahomey to where they are as part of alliance army of Ga,Ewe,Fanti and Oyo empire who fought off the Ashanti army expansion Eastward. The Ewe people, who are also Yoruba and make up 20-30% of Togo's population, are descendants of those who traveled from Ile-Ife, the capital of the Ife Empire, to various parts of West Africa. The Ife Empire was the first empire in Yoruba history, lasting from 1200-1420 in what is now southwestern Nigeria and eastern Benin. The empire was known for its art and trade with Sahelian and forest states
Those are not lost they migrated you can see them in kodjovia kope ,amutieve, etc But for the ife land you can go to atakpame to know more,or go to this media africa fontaine, In this time they are party odun -su
The reason why you are finding similarities in the dishes is because west African people are the same therefore we eat the same dishes. I was waiting for you guys to connect the dots but it didn’t happen lol 😂
Yes, it's a very, very clean and organised city! I came there for the first time exactly 40 years ago! The light as always been like that! It works 24/7 as far back as ever!
@@AfamOrji Leave them they should be fooling themsel ves.I know Togo Very well and the majority tribe is Ewe followed by Kabye and there are lots of Nigerians especially Igbos.
That's not the point. This guy is in lome the capital of Togo and claiming they are a lost Yoruba people when Yoruba are literally indigenous to Togo but the place they're indigenous to isn't Lome. Lome is the capital city of Togo so of course you would expect to see people from different African countries including Yoruba of other nationalities 😊
It's not about these guys alone! Some Nigerians go to Togo to do a lot of funny things! Although the forefathers of this people are originally from Nigeria, they're always afraid of us because of our not so acts some times.
Your title dey muse me 😂 Who told you they are lost? They are literally natives to those lands. Yoruba people didn't just start existing in 1914 when Nigeria was created
