Yea, I'm not trying to be insulting just analytical, If there were a cartoon character of a puzzle maker this guys voice and name is exactly what I would think of. I find it comforting when the person matches the trade... if Terry Crews were a puzzle maker, I would look at him and think, mmm somethings wrong here. The Grand Illusions guy is another one perfectly fits his trade, very grandfather-y persona.
if you watch a lot of these you would get it open eventually, the only problem is the hourglass and knocking puzzles. These could literally be made so that you ll either need to knock it hard or keep it for a minute in every conceivable orientation, which would take ages. If I could somehow know that these 2 were the case then it would be pretty easy. Also snug fits are annoying af.
wikipedia says about Puzzle: "a game, toy, or problem designed to test ingenuity or knowledge." So many people are butt hurt about the design of this PUZZLE The only thing that got me, I had to speak exactly like him during and after the video.
JoVer I'm Erik Villavera Says on here in the comments that you can buy it direct from the bloke that made it. smallpuzzlecollection.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/lotus.html
i have a suggestion for future content that would be interesting, instead of just doing overviews and solves of puzzles doing reviews without showing solutions would be good. you can still show the solution at the end of the video but review first and give it different rating such as difficulty, quality, and originality. this would be nice so people can buy the puzzle shown knowing that its worth purchasing and have a go at it themselves. good video!
I think I'm going to make some recommendation videos here in a week or two for people, without solutions. I see those are separate from what I'm trying to do here, though. A lot of the puzzles that I have were either made in very small batches or completely unaffordable to the average puzzler. (For instance, a few hundred of this puzzle were made and it cost $125.) Without showing the solution, there's no way for the average person interested in puzzles to experience them. Is the "xbox puzzle" interesting without knowing that you have to use ice and magnets to solve it? Is the "lotus box" interesting without knowing about the hidden compartments? Maybe, but if I couldn't purchase the puzzle and I was interested in the solution, I would personally feel more frustrated than interested. But what I could do is cover more puzzlehunt puzzles and the reasoning behind their solutions! Those are usually publicly available, free, and printable with a printer. (They're similar to "The Puzzle at the End of this Book") Great suggestion!
FLEB i totally get what you mean, i like seeing the solutions to different puzzles. thats why i think a review/suggestion and the solution should be in the same video, with the review proceeding the solution of course. but with obscure unobtainable puzzles a review is not necessary
I just suggesting something similar so I just deleted my suggestion. Mine was that FLEB should describe the end game of a puzzle before going about demonstrating how to solve it. I can't describe what I want on this video without spoiling it for the rest so I hope you understand why I'm getting at. I love how you show puzzles I might like but I might want to solve it myself so I would just want the description of what the goal is. Like "the goal is you have to disassemble and reassemble everything" or "the goal is to open the box" or "the target is to get that candy out of the compartment" that sort of stuff.
I love the journey of this puzzle. This scratches both the 'puzzle' itch as well as the 'beautifully machined metal' itch. It makes me wish that ClickSpring would try making puzzles on his channel. The difficulty of this puzzle is directly related with the quality of the craftsmanship, as some of the hidden compartments are hidden by careful polishing! I'm glad that you shared this. There is no way I would have seen it elsewhere.
It's designed by Wil Strijbos. He makes a lot of puzzles like this, where there are lots of tools and such that need to be found and used to solve the puzzle.
I've slept with the finest men and women this world has to offer, and one thing ive learned is its boring at the top. So im starting again from the bottom and only going lower. The finest gems are only found by those who stoop the lowest.
I am too impatient (or dumb) to solve these types of puzzles but I am still fascinated with them when you show us how to solve them :-) it feels like solving the biggest mystery of the mankind :)
30 seconds in and i was already overcome by frustration and impatience, and your calm flebian curiosity kept radiating cool vibes which made me wanna rattle this box so hard ive paused the video at 1.25 to type this comment but oh man i have never looked forward to the solution of something so hard. love your videos.
Lawndart Productions Haha. As soon as I started watching this video I was reminded of the first time I pulled that little lever on the handle of my MKII and all hell broke loose. I see I'm not the only one.
Spinning it isnt the best way to open the puzzle, it works maybe 1 in 20 times, hence the cut in the video. There’s a far more effective way, when you find it, it makes the puzzle a whole lot better
if you think the puzzle is finished after you get the first coin, then you did not see the lotus on the 2nd coin and therefor have not solved it. it just tells you to keep going until you find the lotus coin.
I can't express how delighted I am every time I see FLEB has a new update. As one of the many subs who jumped on board about, oh, four months ago, I was strongly expecting this channel to be dead but it looks like a few hundred thousand views have brought FLEB out of the woodwork. :D
Hi FLEB, great video. Unfortunately there was never any caution in the instructions to NEVER close the puzzle without re-inserting the flat oval. I did so, and the a smooth cylindrical pin popped out. Would you please be able to tell me how to put back the pin into the mechanism, to restore the puzzle to its "original" working order? I'd like to pass this puzzle on to others for solving in its original state. Thank you!
To clarify, I am talking about the flat oval over top of the lotus coin. I closed the puzzle without putting it back in slot, and a pin fell into the slot from inside the device.
Yes I can open and close the puzzle easily. In fact, I can open it *without* spinning, which is the problem. I suspect the little pin was one of the spinning-activated mechanisms inside.
Okay, let me take a look at it over the next few days. I'm guessing it's very possible to fix, but I'm going to need to break my puzzle the same way to understand what your issue is. So to be clear, you closed it without the lotus coin cover in and this was all you did to get into your current state?
Thanks a lot! Yes, all I did was to close it without the lotus hole cover, and without the coin. I'm sure I turned it around/rotated it afterwards too but essentially the next time I opened the lotus hole, a free floating pin was there. At the time I was excited because I thought I was still solving the puzzle and finding more items!
This channel is fascinating, unique and interesting. Can't wait to see it grow! I first found you a while ago from a popular reddit post. Best of luck as you grow!
As with most complex puzzles, not many were made. I got mine from a local puzzle shop called "Eureka Puzzles", but I have no idea if they still have any.
1. How do you expect us to solve this without physically touching it ahha.. 2. Not enough clues seriously... 3. Throw on the floor and it will solve it for you in a matter of seconds
Chris Ramsay did this on 7/11/2018 and he says it's a level 10 (out of 10) which is really difficult! Congrats for solving a Level 10 (from Chris's ranking) puzzle!
William Strijbos is the creator of this puzzle box. Its currently out of stock in most places, but some of his other puzzles aren't, and worth taking a try to solve.
new subscriber...love puzzles but this one is way above my abilities. I have built a few puzzles myself and uploaded one build video last week. working on filming an original puzzle.
This would be awesome for dungeons and dragons. DM: "Your spot check reveals a line on the metal shaft, you soon realize it contains a chamber that can be unscrewed, you soon find a hidden piece!"
>People complaining that this isn't a puzzle. A puzzle doesn't need to have all of the clues available to the user. That is not a requirement for puzzles to be called puzzles. Is it an easy puzzle meant for everyone? Then sure, having everything be at least hinted at is encouraged. But when it comes to hardcore puzzles such as this one? The emphasis is more on discovery and imaginative interaction than on "figuring it out".
really wanna see more of these videos. I've seen all of them multiple times and they are super fascinating! I can't believe it's just once a week though. do you have another job that gets in the way of producing videos? I love this channel.
