The Love Story of Aragorn and Arwen

I can only imagine Beren and Luthien smiling down on Aragorn and Arwen as all this unfolds.

So many people get married with the "happily ever after" mindset, but they forget the other part about the hardships. I've heard lots of people get at speaking about the negatives of life, but what true love is there if it can't handle hardships. It's the hardships that make Beren and Luthien, Strider and Arwen such solid couples.

Ahhh I never get tired of this love story. The biggest upside is that this doesn’t end like Romeo and Juliet lol 😆

I love Aragorn and Arwen💕, they're the pinnacle of true love for me.

"If I leave him now, I will regret it forever" Everyones favorite couple ❤ We should all b so lucky to find someone who would wait all the ages of the world for us. They're love is strong and everlasting however I've often wondered why Arwen was not buried by his side? It's nice that her final resting place was the spot where they first met but still, my modern mind can only ponder as to why 🤔 I guess in the end it doesn't matter where your bodies finally lay, your spirits will find one another ❤ Side note: loving these earlier drop times, best way to start my day :))

Lovely... I have had to say farewell to my beloved man of Gondor.. .which is what I called him when I first met him. There is no sorrow worse than saying farewell to your beloved when he opens that door that you can not walk through, with him. As much as you love, your sorrow will be doubled when the other one, departs. I am no Arwen ... no beauty. I'm more like a hobbit or a dwarf, but our love was sublime for many years. Love demands everything of us, and gives us back, even more. Happy Valentines day to everyone. Appreciate what you have when you have it... there are no promises in life.

Thank you for yet another great video! Can someone explain me, why Aragorn when he speaks to Arwen just before he dies seems to think, Arwen can go West but she actually can't? How could he be confused about such an important detail?

This was the greatest evil of Melkor. He poisoned the Gift and put fear of the "Darkness" into Men. Said "Darkness" being the Gift to leave the world and be with Eru. The Edain at first turned away from the Darkness and went to Eru willingly, though not without grief from loved ones. But they who lived after knew that they would join their loved ones. So it was until the Shadow grew again in the Second Age. Melkor put forth his influence and the Fear came upon Men again. The one thing that they could not break free from. For even the best of Men had this Fear and clung to life, forgetting that death was truly a Gift. And so it is to this day. Alone she walks to the place where they first met and there on the cold ground she lied dow and waits for her time to die... Though I agree with what you said in the end.

Here's something that's kind of bugged me as I have gotten older and come to understand what relationships are all about: Arwen was supposedly almost 3,000 years old when she finally gave up her life, and she'd spent not even 10% of that time even knowing Aragorn, leave alone being married to him. Are we to believe that, in over 2,500 years that she had lived before that, she had met NO ONE who she felt anything for? Are we to believe that not once in all that time did she consider taking an elven husband who would have been immortal like herself and whom she could have spent all of eternity with? Are we to believe that not a single elven lord or hero approached her with a proposal in all that time? For that matter, did anyone ever consider just what the heck she spent all that time doing? Honestly, 2,500+ years of being a pampered princess in Rivendell (at least her brothers got to hunt and fight, etc.) would probably bore anyone to tears. I wonder if by the time Aragorn came along she was actually jaded with this eternal existence, and actually welcomed the possibility of seeing an end to it all. We really don't know, because Tolkien really doesn't develop her as a character, nor does he really explain why, at least three times, the supremely noble and ethereal elven princess just waits, conveniently available, for the human hero to arrive (in one case, Beren's, stumbling into a place where no mortal should be able to trespass) and steal away her heart. I don't "get" why Thingol didn't just send Beren on his way, or Melian didn't just keep him out like she kept everyone else out, or why Turgon didn't dismiss Tuor after he had delivered his message and say "thank you, we'll take it under advisement, my guards will show you out," or indeed, in this case, Elrond didn't tell young Aragorn that Arwen existed (he apparently didnt know she did until they met, by chance), and to stay away from her, she was off-limits, and then dismiss him to make his own way in the world once he was an adult. Tolkien clearly had some hang-up about less worthy men scoring women who were out of their league, presumably because his wife Edith was denied him for a time by a disapproving guardian and had to essentially turn her back on her whole prior life to be with him. That, coupled with poor psychology, difficulty realizing fully "human" characters, and sometimes deliberate skimping on details, leaves me cold on Tolkien's love stories. P.S. Aragorn, as a Dunedain, was in a tough spot himself when it came to choosing a spouse. Since there didn't seem to be any Dunedain women around (at least none are mentioned) he had the choice of trying for an immortal elven spouse (who would outlive him) or marrying an ordinary human woman (who would age and die while he remained a relatively young man).

The third best love story to me after Thingol and Melian and their daughter Luthien and Beren.

Beautiful video to go along with a beautiful story, Quite a few similarities between the two stories of Beren and Luthien and Aragorn and Arwen and in the end their stories come to a full circle.

Hugo Weaving delivers the line so perfectly when he describes how noble Aragorn would become as King Elessar: "An image of the splendor of the kings of men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world."
