I hit all Melbourne's live venues in the mid sixties, The Thumpin' Tum, Opus, Sebastians, Garrison out in Prahran, these guys ruled in what was a brilliant time for live OZ bands.
Hey Guys , about 30 years ago , so the traxk was 30 yo then , and this young kid , working behind the Jump , of a servo ,not far from StKilda, has this song Ever lovin man , and as i paid him i said, the Loved ones hey , and he was like, you know how this is whos the band it's rararara ,and told him all i know of Jerry Humphries, he said he kept replaying it thinking someone will know it and mention it , He was so thrilled to know it was a Melbourne band in the mid 60 , he was beside himself , amazing what emotions music tao into . Cheers
This song and the album "Magic Box" were and are, imho, absolute classics of the Australian rock scene of the 60's. Am privileged to have been around when it first came out and love it just as much 50-odd years later.
Gosh this song always goes straight into relaxing my spirit! Takes me back to the early hippy days (I was a mini hippy 😉) and this one is on my play list for my 70th next year.. No miserable old 70th birthday lunches for me, just inviting people who can still enjoy life, get up and 'try' to dance if they can still move a few muscles.. Such a classic!
Probably one of the standout group of songs from the '60s that for me as a kid at the time, defined pop/rock music of that era. Still an all-time favorite.
Actually they were. They were Australias competition to the stones and like the easybeats they pushed the beatles out of the charts. Broke up after only a handful over songs. I was given an EP of theirs and gave it away when I was 15. Its now worth $30000
@@thesociallyresponsibleanar2882 My dad had a compilation cd with the loved ones cover of 300 pounds of heavenly joy. Home was broken into and I have never been able to find it.
I saw them live. (Just showing my age.) Great band and Gerry had a voice a lot of other singers admired especially in this song. I still have the original "Magic Box" vinyl album.
I was given my first "the loved ones" experience on vinyl by my older sister - loved it for one summer and it went on permanent loan to my sister never to be seen or heard by me again! Love this band and wished I was older at the time to see them live. Would have to say my favourite band. Thanks for posting
I like the passion the guy puts into the vocals and based on the comments below, it seems I'm not alone! Good to see! I'm glad my dad showed me this song back when i was a kid. Thanks graviloquence for sharing
Man this guy can sing sooooo good. My goodness he had the whole Robert Plant thing down before Robert Plant was even known. I'm so happy that these guys are from Australia. Inspirational.
hmmm thats cool i done the same when i was in my teens also most of my kids done it with my wife and me but one song i played alot to my wife vicki was (castles in the air) Don Mclean lets just continue enjoying all the songs we loved in our younger years !!! cheers
I used to hang out downstairs at the Thumpin Tum.Also saw Eagle Rock played by Daddywho"""''before it was released as a single.Nahbwe loved seeing The loved Ones perform down stairs at the Tum.
I'm Aussie Gerry Humphries is noted to some degree in the Aria Hall of Fame but underrated overseas but in the 60s and early seventies most Australian talent was in heard of OS lastly a Brilliant vocal talent 😊

Alan Johnston No he's not, he's a Cockney born in London 41'died of a massive heart attack in London 2005, his Cockney sense of humour was never really appreciated in Aust.
I met Gerry once briefly in 1965 / 66?? when as a young Merchant Seaman I was wandering around Melbourne a "tad couple of sheets to the wind" - He was amused that I told him I was his biggest fan - I offered to share a taxi with him - he politely declined and was last seen hurrying off in the opposite direction to the way he was originally going - In hindsight, maybe I worried him - well that was my brush with fame.
Probably with better management, they could have been a big international act. They did a tour of W.A.and no records were supplied to the retail record stores. That was a complete debacle, and cost them a lot. They were young still maintained a carefree attitude.
when i first heard this i thought it was a japanese person singing... they just have that in their culture and they're born with it... this guy shocked me
Absolute great Melbourne band of the '60s. I liked them as much as any of the bands including the Beatles and Stones in that era. A pity management totally ripped them off, and they never really recovered as a band.
