The reason for the size of Chukchansi Park (Fresno Grizzlies), is because it was built for Triple-A baseball.. but the whole upheaval of the Minor League system before the 2021 season, we were demoted to Single-A.
The Grizzlies were home to AAA team's franchises that won World Series 6 of ten years from 2010-2019. Three years for the Giants, one year for the Cubs, one year for the Astros and one year for the Nationals. If you want to win a a World Series bring your AAA franchise to Fresno.
Actually, we never had the Cubs AAA team. They have had the Iowa Cubs for a very long time. Fresno is now a Single-A Rockies affiliate, and have been doing quite well this season.
Yes, the Grizzlies were a part of their parent club's 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2017 championships. The Grizzlies also won the PCL and Triple-A Championships in 2015.
Hey man, I work on the grounds crew at Segra Stadium and I really appreciate everything you said abt it. We really try our best all day every day to make sure the field is in great condition!
I'm from southern California and the 66ers are the team down there, but now that I live here in fresno I love the grizzly stadium. It has an amazing view and the atmosphere is nice. Also good to see a ballpark where the outfield just doesn't end in dirt or a lot
The original Grizzlies owners were concert/entertainment promoters and convinced the city to foolishly build a stadium that would also be a concert venue. It cost about twice as much as Raleys field in Sac-town that was built at the same time. Then the SaveMart Center was built on the Fresno State campus (you know, indoors and air conditioned) thus no real need for an outdoor venue downtown where no one lives... Now it's just an overgrown albatross on the city's tight budget.
The Chuk still draws great attendance. The demotion from AAA to A was MLBs idea, not ours. We had no choice to take the Single-A team or face having no team at all. Unfortunately, that meant that Lancaster, CA. had to lose theirs.
I think there was a new AAA team in Sugarland, Texas for the Astros. This meant a AAA team had to get demoted. Fresno wanted to keep their AAA team and not get demoted to low A, but MLB threatened them that it was that or nothing.
College baseball division 1 ballparks woould be an excellent opportunity but go by conferences because youll be doing a very long video. Korean baseball league would be another great vid.
I love the video! One correction though: Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis is NOT on the site of the old Intimidators Stadium. Intimidators Stadium is a solid 10 minute drive away and about to be demolished for an industrial park. Atrium Health Ballpark was built near the site of an old textile mill in downtown Kannapolis. It truly is a gem!
it would be cool to see you do the Frontier League Stadiums or the American Association Or really any independent League most of them have some pretty cool parks
That's basically true about Vi-sal-ia They were the Visalia Oaks before the Rawhide. The stadium was called Recreation Park. With the renovations, excellent seats and ambiance
It's also the smallest professional baseball stadium. It only seats around 1400. Great place to watch a game, you are right on top of the field. Home plate to the backstop is about 20 feet.
Quoting Neil D.Tyson is a pure stroke of genius. No pun intended. I didn't know he felt so passionate about helmets or nachos. Your best content yet. You took obscure stadiums, mostly regionally interesting and actually made it fun. Bruv, love your content. Keep on posting!
Great video. One correction, The Kannapolis Cannonballers field was built in a completely new site. The old intimidators stadium was a few miles away (and was terrible).
I agree about Lake Elsinore Diamond - great looking stadium, has to be one of the nicest in the lower minors. And CA League sees tons of future stars, highly recommended!
I would love for you to do the Frontier League, Atlantic League, & American Association Stadiums! I love all of your baseball ballpark videos! Keep up the great work!!!
Love Hammond Stadium visited for Twins spring training about 6 years ago. Watched Sano on a practice field nailing the batters eye again and again and again.
The Flying Tigers are in honor of the Flying Tigers trained in Lakeland before going off to fight in the Pacific theater in WWII/ And, of course, also that the Detroit Tigers have trained in Lakeland since 1934.
I’m bias but I love the SJ Giants field. It’s old and it’s got history. What really is EXCITING is the beer batter. They choose a player on the opposing team if he strikes out all beer is 50% off for the next 15 minutes. It’s a great day when he strikes out 4 times before the 7th. Then it turns into the apple juice batter.
Good video! How about covering the NCAA Division-I ballparks in the future? Since some college baseball programs are better-financed than others, there should be quite a range of sizes and styles.
Fiscalini Field in San Bernadino, California used to be low A San Bernadino Spirit. Now the UC San Bernadino Baseball Team plays there. I played there a couple of times in the 90s...I even hit a homer over the RF wall!
They got bumped from AAA so they could add the St. Paul Saints. Saints became a Twins affiliate replacing the Rochester Red Wings. Red Wings became a Nationals affiliate, replacing the Grizzlies. Grizzlies left with nobody. And then they went to Low-A because that’s the only non-AAA level that had other CA teams. They replaced the Lancaster Jethawks there as the Rockies affiliate. So basically seems like a victim of circumstance in the restructuring. Just no good spot anywhere else.
@@Padsquad2010 MLB dumped a lot of minor league teams. One of the reasons mentioned for dumping the Jet Hawks was because it is so windy in Lancaster they had a hard time gauging pitchers. Grew up in Lancaster and could have told them it's windy there.
@@JDadAPS The Nats AAA team used to be in upstate NY. I believe Rochester. But the NY Mets BOUGHT the stadium and turned it over to their AAA team. This pushed the AAA Nats west.
Atrium Ballpark (Kannapolis) was not built on the site of the old Intimidator's stadium. It was built downtown. The old park was on the outskirts and was sold.
Rodger Dean Stadium was built to replace Palm Beach Municipal Stadium and is about 15 miles or more north of West Palm Beach yet still in Palm Beach County Florida.
The Florida state league Carolina league and California league were all high a league's and Mid west and South Atlantic leagues were low a ball but the baseball commissioner's pen stroke changed everything
Excite Stadium in San Jose is a great place. I know it as Muni and it is an old WPA project. The building outside the outfield fence is where the San Jose Sharks practice. It is old but cool. They have an awesome out BBQ down the third base line.
You could go on doing these for ever! Rookie leagues etc. The Australian Baseball League, goodness knows how many other national baseball leagues there are!
You should do the independent leagues next. (MLB Partner Leagues: American Association, Frontier, Atlantic, Pioneer | Independent Leagues: United Shore, Empire, Pacific, Pecos) Have you done the Mexican league yet? Just some ideas. Keep up the great work!
Have you covered Joseph L Bruno stadium before in any of your videos? home of the tri-city valleycats (Short-season A club for the Astros up until last year). Great park!
What happened to Dutchess Stadium, home of the Hudson Valley Renegades? Always felt that was a great ballpark, decent food, and a nice Treeline outfield? So what that it’s across the highway from a prison?
Do Frontier League!!!!! Would love to see him highlight Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana. Third oldest stadium behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park and home to one of the most famous quotes in any sports movie!
Can you do the Pioneer league? They used to be Rookie League Advance until MiLB said no more. Now they are an independent league partner league of mlb. Ogden raptors have the highest attendance and one of the best backdrops in all of baseball.
Great video and nice look at all the ballparks. I do have to point out one thing though which is that you pronounced Tortugas wrong. It is pronounced “Tor-TU-gus”.
13:32 2024 is the final season for the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field. They wanted $32 million dollars to renovate the stadium. City said no. The team is moving elsewhere.
