Great advice. I just started working as a Nephrology PA as a new grad and I feel so lost lmao... I could not imagine working as a travel PA in Nephrology, or in any other field, straight out of school....
I’d fall on my knees in your presence-I respect nephrology so much and am so thankful for providers like you! My brain doesn’t work that way I guess, give me something to tie instead 😂 Keep up the good work, the learning curve is steep but amazing in all specialties the first year, but you’ve got this!
This is my long-term future goal. Becoming a travel neurosurgery physician assistant. I’m thinking of towing a fifth wheel trailer so now I’m investing financially and academically working while in school as a CNA/PCT in the neuro ICU. The fact that I only want to limit myself to the neurology unit scares me though. I’m not really interested in any other specialty. Orr, I can work remotely for a neurologist and still have my RV to travel… I don’t know 🤷🏾♀️ so many decisions >___
Love the idea of the 5th wheel-that sounds great. If you love neuro and are willing to travel (which it sounds like you are!), then stick to it and see what adventure brings!
Sure, at least within the US. As long as you keep your license current, you should be good. I don’t know too much about travel laws in other countries however, but I assume it’s similar everywhere.
As a traveler medical profession this isn’t an accurate explanation. Most hospitals will not even consider a traveler without 2 years experience, most “locum” companies over 401k’s and benefits they just expire when you’re contract is up. Incentivizing medical professionals to stay with that one company and Not bounce around.. Traveling is amazing however you only get the best bang for your buck when you don’t have a mortgage somewhere else and you don’t take your housing that they offer you I need to find her own housing drive your own car book your own flights that’s when you take home the most pay which definitely can be double what you make normally with a full-time..
