@@eloiseockert9233 Same. I’m probably younger than the vast majority of you, but for as long as I can remember, Lucy appealed to all audiences. My mother was a big fan of I Love Lucy. Her parents who both witnessed World War II watched I Love Lucy way back in the 50’s on prime time. I caught the reruns in the 80’s and 90’s. The Lucy Show was on cable TV in the early 90’s, and I Love Lucy was one of the shows on Nick at Nite, along with Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.

The years of stage makeup, cigarettes and enjoying the sun did age her skin but her makeup artist was genius and the end look in this series is beautiful.

I saw her on another show she is really a breunett lucy is with grey streaks. Her and vivian was on the dinah shore show.

Lucille Ball was a beautiful woman but, at this stage of her life, It took a LOT of tricks to make her look that good on TV. Her face was pulled up under her wig and tightened, a la Marlene Dietrich, and she wore a LOT of makeup.

Piatequila actually pancake makeup is very flattering for television especially with the older cameras. And yes, a lot of people used strings or wires with small strips of adhesive at the temples etc to give temporary “face lifts”. I saw an interview where Lucille Ball admitted to using them. Marlene Dietrich is the one that started that and it’s common knowledge to anyone interested in Old Hollywood. Try using google. As a matter of fact Jane Fonda uses a modern version in the first episode of “Grace and Frankie” on Netflix. It’s not as bizarre as it sounds.

@@upthedown1 Lucille Ball bought out Desi from Desilu. (he was not doing well - drinking) and she was asked by the board to do such. Stocks started to rise again, and she even overrode the Board when they nixed Mission Impossible and Star Trek. While she did well as President and Chief Shareholder, she did sell for Desilu for 17 million. (I think to Paramount.) Also one has to remember that it was she who insisted her husband would be her co-star in I Love Lucy, and if CBS did not agree they would have to get someone else. She put everything on the line.

Wow they did some crazy good makeup on him. You can hardly tell it’s him visually. His voice gives him away though.

I was born in 1961 and began watching I Love Lucy when it premiered on local TV in 1967. It was at 7pm weeknights in NYC, The Lucy Show was at 10am weekday mornings on CBS, Here's Lucy was on CBS Monday nights, and sometimes the Lucy Desi Hour would be shown on my local station Sunday nights at 9pm. We were so lucky if we were Lucy fans in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I prefer the first three seasons with Vivian Vance. After that, it just became a variety show with celebrity guest stars every week. I think the scripts weren't as good too.

What do you mean, " One in a million"? --- There is no other, and NEVER will be. God broke the mold after LucilleBall, and God knew exactly what He/She was doing.

I liked the last 3 seasons of The Lucy Show best too , having guest stars along with weekly co-star Gale Gordon. Vivian Vance paid some visits to the show. But this format I really enjoyed. I often visit the one with George Burns and the one with Dean Martin +++

The main thing I didn't like about The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy was she didn't have a husband. I would have liked that, and it just wasn't the same when she had to answer to her banker instead of a husband. She needed a husband to say "NO" to her. Even when she worked for Mr Mooney/Harrison Carter it wasn't the same as answering to a husband.
