We all know why he gets hate.

I wonder why? Hmmmm, what could it be?!?

Well, it took me a while, but I finally figured out why Luka has the name of one of history's greatest graphic novels (MAUS) on the front of his jersey. Turns out the answer's pretty simple.

Luka (and Jokić) are the "black sheep" of the NBA. Not basketball, the NBA! In Europe, things are very different - we have a certain kind of blindness to certain differences in players looks. But just listening to the music that is pushed along the NBA culture, the way that players display their "social status" via putting items of clothing and decoration on their bodies - you know what audience the NBA tends to. And to that audience, curated by the talking heads of certain I guess mainstream (in the US) media, the values of Luka and Jokić just don't fit. Jokič with his Python-esque humor and Luka with his child-like joy and anger - their personalities are just not understandable to "the culture". It has to be smooth and simple, muscle and gold. Lebron. It's the audience. Don't play Led Zeppelin to a crowd of phone addicted teenagers.

Love watching him play, the hate he gets is crazy. When he got to 2nd spot because of "smoothness", great metric...

If Luka wants more respect he should start showing more respect to others starting with the refs. I love Luka's game but he is in the running with Embid for the most annoying star in the league for how he acts. People like to hate on Luka because he does things that make people hate him.
