As the last song from the ‘Junior Sparks’ section of III, “Left for Denver” addresses Junior’s mother, Bonnie, who has left him and his alcoholic father to move away and start again. Their website provides a short song description: Junior’s mom moves west and starts a new family in “Left for Denver”; the kid reacts by rebelling and getting in trouble. The band has a personal connection to Denver as it was after they moved there that they really started to take off. Wesley Schultz expressed his feelings about the city in an interview with The Times: No one in Denver cares if you’re famous, they care deeply about music - at night this place is packed, whatever the act. There are venues like this all over Denver. But what people here love is to sing along. They don’t go to shows to stand and stare.

I think the song is about Junior’s mom leaving him and Jimmy for Denver and starting a new family. Junior runs away with the gun at the end of the video to also start a new life because of everything he’s dealt with. (His mom leaving, his abusive dad, and a breakup.)

One of my favorite albums of all time. I wish other friends of mine would understand the magnitude of this album

It’s interesting how we consume most of the music out there but not the Lumineers.. I always stop whatever I’m doing when I hear a song from them and take time to think about it.

To me, the piano is like a child, it has unlimited potential to become something beautiful, to create soemthing that changes the lives of others. By burning the piano Junior realizes that his own beauty has been tainted by his famillys past. We see that the piano was messed around with by all past alcoholics in the familly. They started a masterpiece but never finished it. Likewise they started a familly bit never saw it through to completion. Junior in essence is regonizing his own flaws, the flaws of his past, and saying hes had enough. Thats something insanley powerful and beautiful. Just my interpretation. 😊

Still can’t believe I got to see them live!!! Saw them in Nashville of Feb 19. So glad we made the trip to Nashville instead of waiting to see them in May in Atlanta! Everything has been postponed and I feel sorry for those whose dates were postponed!

This to me, sounds like it's about a much older sibling, that left and moved out of the toxic household. Leaving behind the younger sibling to deal with it alone. "Is it one , or is it two, or is it three kids now?? They mark the time, they draw the lines around your eyelids now" this lines hits. The older sibling started a family, totally leaving behind his past, including his younger brother. "Everyone left you held on longer than the rest" shows that the sibling did try to stay and hold on for the younger one. But at the end he had to leave
