I have been a little busy I got the King C Gilette safety razor yesterday. And I figured out the adjustments. When adjusting it up a level it might shave down a full, curly beard according to physics and friction.
I have the aluminium lupo. I'm really enjoying it. Doesn't feel that aggressive. Perhaps your version is different. Congrats on the upcoming event. Nice video thanks.
The Aluminium is quite different to the Stainless version, especially the one he is using here, as he uses a .72 open comb side and .95 closed comb. Both sides significantly more aggressive than the aluminium.

It varies greatly on the product to be honest. My process is to find the sweet spot for each lather and yes often it can be pasty for me, though it can be thin at times too. What I am looking for is to maximise the cushion for my skin and couple it with maximum slickness for razor glide. It's these two factors skin protection (cushion) and razor glide (slickness) that I feel for and why I rub my fingers together or rub lather with my finger on my face. This is why I don't over aerate my lather to create a foamy nonsense. When I rub the lather I am aquaplaning the lather to sense the potential qualities and performance of the lather ahead of time. The fingers are first and then the face because the face has oils and the lather on the face saponifies the oils and behaves differently, usually if the face is very oil, it makes the lather less effective. Different products react differently and especially in regards to how they hydrate, their ingredients and qualities for the shave. So sometimes when my face is oily the lather on the first pass is likely to be as you say pasty and if I wash my face really well then it can get a bit more foam if I agitate the lather with the brush against the stubble. Also the first lather is usually full and a bit thicker/pasty because there is more stubble on the face. The lather for the 2nd and 3rd pass is usually thinner and tighter as there is less stubble for the lather to be agitated against. Finally I've made videos talking about lathering and how slickness is the single most important feature in the performance of a soap, not the foam, not how shiny it looks or how foamy it is. People love frosty the snowman and make heaps of lather, something I am really really against. The amount we need is usually a fraction of what others use and for most good products it should be 1 gram or less of product for a full 3 pass shave with clean up. Many other 'shaving youtubers' end up flushing the majority of the lather down the drain and go for foam BUT.... "slickness" is the only thing that is important. Sadly like smell, slickness is something that can be conveyed on video, so people go by looks. Also go for slickness and usually it's a tighter lather. I hope this makes sense.
