Welcome to Lyness, on the Isle of Hoy.
This is where the ferry goes from Lyness to Houton, on the main land of Orkney. It’s not the prettiest of places but it’s soaked in history from WW1 & 2. Here in the video you will see the new Scapa Flow museum, which was just opened by ‘Sir Chris Hoy’ a few weeks ago.
Look out for the huge fuel tank as we fly over Lyness. That’s the old fuel tank that would fuel the Royal Navy Battle & Logistic ships, which would go north to the Baltic region (Russia). You will also notice the old WW1 piers in the video, this is where the ships would dock along side for refuel & bring goods to the Island for the military who served on the Isle of Hoy.
The Isle of Hoy played a very Important part in the first & Second World Wars.
Enjoy this quick flight. Hold on to your hats!!! 😂
