Another architect here, always love your design critiques. I would’ve skipped the swivel seats and formed a U-shaped couch that wrapped around the rear of the guest area. You could easily fit four passengers with this configuration, and even have a table that raises up from the floor similar to wha the Connie has. I agree that the seating should but up on a riser to take advantage of the side windows. Hopefully one day the RSI dealer will give us some options for how we fit out our Lynx.
@redwhitedevil3417
@redwhitedevil3417 Год назад
CIG REALLY loves their swivel seats, there are so many ships that IMO could benefit not having those and the unneccesary animation that comes with it, fixed seats where possible would be so much nicer.
@mattoverton5526
@mattoverton5526 Год назад
Why are the passengers even at the back looking at wall big? When the U-Shaped couch or 4 swivel seats could be at the front, with driver and gunner at rear in a higher position or hydraulic lift seats so driver still has good visibility over the pointed nose of the vehicle. Like a royal horse carriage. A lot of focus of many ST designs seem to favour having the pilot/user as the key person the design needs to work for but for craft crossing over to "lux" then that focus should move so the crew are staff.
@OD-Zee
@OD-Zee Год назад
Not sure a bench would work as having the people in the middle of the bench needing to move in and out would require those on the ends to move out to allow them access. They would also need shifting animations for the characters to move into and out of the bench seats, not to mention these seats would also have to fit metrics, animations and logic for the npcs as well. So I think moving back the seats, adding two more swivel chairs (or at least one more), raising the seats to take advantage of the side windows, increasing the length of the moon roof, adding a suit locker and then incorporating an air shield to maintain the atmosphere when players/npcs enter and exit and allowing players the ability to change the ambient color independently in both the cockpit and the cabin like in a late model Mercedes, would be the best ways to enhance the design.
@loganlikesjelly
@loganlikesjelly Год назад
@@OD-Zee The table would only raise up one everyone is seated. When you enter the vehicle the bench would be open like all the benches in the various landing zones, just walk up and sit. Once the vehicle is underway, the table would raise up if desired, no sliding in and out required.

@@mattoverton5526 I mean yeah that makes a lot more sense, but would require an entire redesign of this vehicle.

I was surprised the kinda barebones middle volume wasn't separated in any way from the "luxurious" seating area. Was expecting that at some point, two sliding doors would just come out of the walls and turn into a full-on screen that displays a front camera view, or some news or a conference broadcast at least, creating a third "virtual" passenger in the space.
@grisvonlada68

I feel like this luxury vehicle is different from a luxury brand like Origin. I see Origin as the prefered choice for general CEOs that don't want anything to do with the weaponry on the ship and don't wanna see anything less than perfection. RSI on the other hand I think might be more suited for the military brand CEOs, like Hurston Robotics, who might prefer to have some high-end weaponry more on show and show the rugged look more. Similar to how the Connie Phoenix still has that exposed engineering door at the back of the luxury/living area

@dakaodo

@@jbirdmax I'd dispute that about "most" limos. Your typical teenaged prom ride is not going to have rugged shocks/suspension, Lexan windows, bullet resistant armor plating, or run flat tires. And I'm pretty sure those limos far outnumber the armored ones used by the US president, other world leaders from elected to despot, and CEO VIPs. There's a lot more American high school students with too much disposable income, than there are world leaders and CEOs. :D :D :D
@jbirdmax
@jbirdmax Год назад
@@dakaodo most military vehicles (at least when I was US Marines Sgt. 2nd NW NM) don’t have run flat tires or lexan windows. but they do have a special coating similar to window tint that can stop most medium bullets and shrapnel. But that’s also available on most limousines. And almost all limousines have suspension that can handle extreme conditions and usually auto adjust to whatever road conditions they’re on. Some have a switch that stiffens the shocks. We took a driving course “presidential escort” where we learned how to drift, slide, and jump limousines out of harms way. With the exception of Mercedes Benz, *most* limousines are tougher than you’re giving credit for, and are used every day in the US Marines, the ARMY and US Special forces, with few modifications. But pretty much all military vehicles are modified to suit whatever role they play.

These "mistakes" actually sort of fit in well with RSI's take on luxury. The Phoenix feels much more like a Business Class affair, possibly with an upgrade to First Class. Origin's ships, on the other hand, feel more like yachts and private jets with custom interiors, which suggests a couple orders of magnitude in wealth beyond that. Imo the lynx has a pretty big design flaw which is the lack of a rear door. While it's super easy to park your ursa in the cargo bay of a connie, due to the lack of a rear door you have to be very careful how you position the lynx, otherwise you'll be stuck between the large wheels when exiting. And given how janky the collision in the game can be it's sometimes pretty dangerous to try and park it with enough space to the left side.
@ReinQuest
@ReinQuest Год назад
I has its pluses but mostly it highlights a complaint I have about CIG. Making new ships is ok but don’t forget about the designs people have been waiting a decade for. That said you looked at it closer than I did and I like how you pointed out the hard surfaces. Space wise I always assume people in hostile environments would dress appropriate and while no space is allowed for heavy suits I expect they just need helm storage while they wear their designer under suits. Unless they have breathable atmo. So lack of airlock, no big deal to me. You didn’t comment on the lockable cabin door. lol But overall I liked it but it felt crowded. Also to that effect I wanted more of an RV. Bigger windows, longer like an Anvil Ballista, beds to log out from, and something for that overall remote RV camping destination feel that the current phoenix sports.

I like that you highlighted both the good and the bad. Personally I often have an issue with exterior views. Views out from spaceports, views from the cockpits of ships, views through windows in general, in this game, is very un-impressive. I want more, bigger, clearer windows everywhere, but especially in the waiting areas of spaceports. I can forgive the lack of soft surfaces etc but views to me is the most important thing in our pretty space game.

Great feedback regarding the windows, protecting against vacuum, and better using the space behind the chairs, which were my comments on it as well (along with creating more of a separation between passengers and crew (something like the glass doors in the C8R). I love the idea of bespoke emergency spacesuits (or at least spaces to store them). CIG is getting better about conceptualizing these things, and the Lynx is an excellent example of how they're both learning and still have room to think things through and revise.

Criticism of the lack of an Airlock is valid. Another downside is that constant contamination of that interior by toxic environments. All those nice materials, wine glasses, and so on are not going to be as 'luxurious' if the interior smells like rotten eggs for a week after travelling on a planet with a Sulfurous atmosphere. My suggestion in the luxury market would be for Tevarin Air shields to be mounted at the entry. Handles the airlock function, is fancy, and takes up less room than the more conventional mechanical airlock would. I'd use the same air shields, for the same reasons, on the Origin 300 series.

While I do like the Lynx my main issue with it was the decision to make it a bit more fragile than the base Ursa. Regarding the lack of environmental protection for the occupants in the back, I dont really think thats a problem. Its a taxi for rich folks and they probably wont need to get on and off outside of a pressurized area anyway. As in, enter the Rover while still in the ship and exit it inside a facility that allows for indoor parking. And on the rare occasion that they do they coud suit up inside the ship. Also a simple Oxygenmask would be sufficient for them to stay alive given that the atmospheric pressure is sufficient. If its at roughly 0,3 Bar (like on Everest) thats enough. Not to mention, its SC. They could fit the door with a Tevarin Style Airshield like on the Prowler.
@Starfighter-nk4mo
@Starfighter-nk4mo Год назад
I want oxygen masks so bad in game, it makes sense in lore considering how many moons are partial, non breathable atmospheres. Daymar is what, .6 bar and just mostly nitrogen and methane? So as long as you had an Everest-style mask, you’d be fine. Also yeah, I don’t imagine the rover needing an airlock or even the VIP’s dealing with suits or masks; on an unpressurized moon they would board in the carrier ship and drive into a base with a sealed hanger like the ones at new Babbage.

I like the Lynx. Favorite ground vehicle so far. Unlike space ships, vehicles have been around our current civilization for over a hundred years. We have gotten really good at making them utilitarian and also hide as much mechanical as possible. The lynx pulls it off well. Also glad to see that the tinted glass is actually tinted. At least some of it is. From outside all the glass appears to be the same color. From inside only the glass roof up top is yellow tinted. Most curious thing is that the remote turret sits in the middle of the roof on the lynx while it is off to the side on the ursa. 2 people in the back of something the size of an APC is a bit ridiculous. I am not sure if CIG just has way too thick of a standard for the hull of things or what. Storm has a single passenger and is larger than the most ridiculously large tanks ever built. The Tonk is like 3x bigger than an M1 Abrams and holds 1 less person. Cyclone is twice the size of an F150 and carries less cargo and less people.

I think Lynx's design should sacrifice the co-driver's seat in lieu of moving the component rack and gun rack forward. That would make enough space to place suit lockers right on the opposite side to the entrance. A luxury car doesn't need more than 1 driver anyway, and it's not a sports car to drive it yourself. As to the seating, I agree with Morph - There should be 3 of them and they should have better visibility of the outside world. Or even better, they should be a sofa - Because nothing beats lounging inside the car while someone drives you around. ...This rover should've been a rock band bus.

You forget this is the future and just because a surface looks solid to you since you are used to the materials we have in our universe, you seem to be ignoring that fact that in this universe and futures setting for all you know the window glass could be soft to the touch while being as strong as steel. I also choose to believe that there is an energy field hugging the surface of all the areas of the interior that creates a sound buffer. So no noise. Also there is a force field just inside of the exterior door area that creates an energy sealed airlock. A person is able to walk right through it while the field keeps air and atmosphere inside while keeping the outside out. At least MINE DOES. Anyhoo...keep making videos...I thoroughly enjoy them.

I think they wasted a lot of space. As stated in the video, there should be some sort of airlock there, so your luxury passengers don't get vented as soon as you need to step outside. I feel that much more of an emphasis should have been put on increasing vision of the outdoors too. Instead it just feels like it's an expanse of panelling, and the chairs end up feeling out of place. Personally, I'd have gone for a self contained space in the rear. A skylight above, but instead (or maybe in addition to?) The window coming down, it should also wrap around. I'd have gone for circular "bench" seating, not dissimilar from what you would find on a yacht, around the rear, giving a lot more soft furnishings, and greater passenger capacity. Finally, when occupied, I'd have the entire bench rotate if desired. This would then give the passengers the opportunity to take on the panoramic rear view while seated.

Your critical points are pretty spot on. I didn't even think about the airlock situation, makes sense though. I personally traded in my ursa for one of these, purely because I think it looks better. I feel that I might miss that rear entrance door while im out running bunkers. I tend to land and drive the ursa up and load it up with the bodies and such then unload them when I get back to my ship and up into orbit again. Not having that rear hatch is probably going to cause some awkward situations using the tractor beam. Hopefully one day soon we really get more use out of the ground vehicles, really the ROC is the only truly useful one right now.. but still... I like this thing.

All the issues regarding airlocks in pretty much all ships and vehicles, could be solved by something alredy in game but for some reason kept locked to a couple of human made replicas of alien ships (emphasis on huma made), and space stations. The air shields. If they want to put airlocks and air tight bulkheads on bigger ships for redundancy when power goes out its fine, but on smaller ships/vehicles it's honestly a no brainer. P.S.: The "excuse" they had for it was "they use a lot of power" wich instantly failed when they put one of those on the ejection cockpit of the Talon, that as far as i know dosen't house a power plant XD .

The very first thing I did with my Lynx was replace the 2x M3A Laser Cannon's with Omnisky III's. Mostly so the match the Omnisky's that come with the Phoenix. Also they do look much better on the Lynx than the M3A's. They perform exactly the same currently so...

an aftermarket parts system where you could get suspension and other parts for one from the other would be nifty.

It would be cool if the table could go into the floor and the seats form into a bed. Then if you aren’t doing passenger transport, it could be a really nice personal transporter. Pair that with maybe a ursa that is using AI blades to follow you and you could have a very relaxing/ nice way to explore new planets.

imo the vertical view angle lacks of widespreading, you have the "top bar " just in front of your eyes. The viewing angle is better in the ursa. It's a major issue for me.

One thing you don't see much of (besides the Lynx and maybe one or two more) is a frame being used by another MFG to make something else. Happens in real life a lot. Like a lot of RV's are just Freightliner M2 frames, flipped around, and are built up by whoever the hell to have an RV top.

We tested it on day 1 and it appears to be Railgun proof. Took a whole mag and it survived so had to get the arrow to blow it up.

I love this vehicle and I think it fits the Phoenix nicely, but I don't like the Connies for several of their awkward designs. I wish the Lynx would fit into the 400i but I guess I will have to get a 600i for that. I think there still is room for an airlock door, which I would make transparent or semi-transparent, or maybe even 1-way transparent so that passengers can see who is trying to come in but people can't gawk at people inside.

9:19 - Maybe CIG understands that the Phoenix doesn't need 3 bedrooms, but should have 2 bedrooms and one luxury bathroom.

CIG has created a lot of ships without proper air locks. I personally think at some point they will fix this with passthrough shields that hold in air but let through everything else like in some sci-fi movies and shows. Would also be the easiest fix.

Regarding your statement about higher quality materials such as wood or carpet in the interior, I am really curious how the G12 from Origin will look like. However it seems that's its interior will be really small. Imagine what they could have done with the Lynx if it would have been the size of the Anvil Spartan.

There is legitimate use for ground vehicles. ROC mining! It's pretty dope. Although yeah the vast majority of ground vehicles is still looking for an actual ussecase.

Put the Air Shield from Esperia ships. That would solve the problem simply, without needing to really justify the "why" or "how", and without making it unbelievable within the concept and usage. Cheers! Canuck :)
