Man that was a terrible thing, glad Norman wasn’t hurt. I remember you saying what a great combine that was. Thankful to see you still have the L2, I’m sure as good as you all are, you will be using that again soon. So sorry for your loss.

That sucks. I had an F2 burn up when I was combining wheat years ago. Hopefully you can find another one.

Interesting to see that when an older combine burns it contains so much more metal than a newer one so you don't get a big blazing inferno compared to a new one with a plastic fuel tank and plastic everything else.

Looks like the L2 needs a little house cleaning. That goes along way with keeping fires down.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I know you put a lot of work into keeping a combine going and it has got to be very discouraging and hard to take. I assume you had insurance on the M2 and were able to get another combine in a timely way. Lots of good luck after this and pray you are getting the wheat harvested.....God's speed.

Farms and fires suck. My uncles grain dryer started on fire and did so much damage his farm was debatable to reconstruct? He had everything in 1 basket there,,with all the building attached. He lost so many tractors and equipment because of the design. Since then he has rebuilt but separated the buildings .

years and years ago I was working on a farm in eastern Colorado and the boss had on a IH combine that caught on fire. fire started in chaff piled up under engine. We got it out before it burnt down. I was really thirsty just as soon we used up all water on the fire. Boss was not calm like you were.

Get a couple of cameras and put them so you can see the engine area and other areas that a fire would start and you can watch the monitor in the cab and because of that you can see any problem the second it happens and you can avoid fires ... .. it's way better to have cameras to see problem right off... Then not have them and not knowing and a fire breaks out... they are very easy to install....

No water tank on the farm. Gotta wait for the FD. Conveniently not in the field or by the shed or any other buildings. Looks like it was a debris friction fire you should have been looking for in dry conditions. *Totally an accident, I swear!*
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 2 года назад
Holly shit dude that picture for your profile definitely fits you we where moving farms so it was actually the same distance from the farm to the FD so water tank wouldn’t have helped how it started was the trans brake stuck and as for it was an accident yeah considering we had liability insurance on it we aren’t making any money on burning it so your statements are invalid and you can GFYS

I'm sorry for your loss. I've said it in other people's videos, what would it take the build your own fire suppression system? and I'm talking a water tank and a hose some where's on the vehicle, because a lot of times you people are miles from anyting that's supplies water to put the fire out, and seeing how long it took for the fire department to get there it might give you some Fighting Chance to save your vehicle. You might have had enough liquid or let's say water like the 2 L of Coke you squirted on the Embers. It's like you'd have to be your own fire department.

i learned my lesson twenty years ago when i was working as an apprentice in a machine repair shop, we used a metal tray with oil to wash parts and one day it caught fire and i calmly went to get a fire extinguisher and i discharged it and the dust came out but the fire continued to burn, in disbelief we were all looking, me the mechanic and a driver, we couldn't believe what was happening, the tray was no more than 100cm by 50cm wide the mechanic went to get another fire extinguisher and unloaded it, the fire subsided a little but it didn't go out, we didn't want to believe it because the fire extinguishers underwent an inspection every two years made by a certified company, the driver had in the cabin of the truck a small disposable extinguisher went to look for it and it's not that it put out the fire with just a small blow, we didn't want to believe what had just happened, our fire extinguishers with inspection up to date and the gauge in the green, they had pressure the dust came out but it didn't kill the fire, that served to discover that the company that carried out the inspection of the extinguishers only verified through the pressure gauge that the pressure was in the green and affixed a new label saying that it complied with the norms, never having replaced the dust inside, the dust after so many years was already degraded and did not put out the fire, simple... from that day on, any fire extinguisher that was for inspection was discharged outside the workshop, so we were sure it was filled with new dust . When we received the refilled fire extinguishers we deliberately set fire to a tray of oil again, just to make sure the fire extinguishers did what they were supposed to do, and all it took was a small blow and the fire died.Test your fire extinguishers to make sure they are working, just because the gauge is in green does not mean it is working. And you always send them empty for inspection, so you always have fresh dust inside when they come back. Good work.

This is too bad I worked at an AC dealership in shop during college. But several years later I went to work on a farm the gentleman that owned the farm purchased an AC MH3. I was moving it one day during harvest from field to field. And smoke started coming up that right hand side of the machine. Everybody said you left the parking brake on I said I did not leave the parking brake on. It never did catch fire but is was smoldering. So we hosed it down and cleaned it. There is an oil pressure down there I down remember but I think it was for the transmission lubrication. It had shorted out and being the wheat dust it was close to causing a fire.
