Is 4K resolution problematic with a mac? I heard you have to get 5k or qhd else it over drives up the gpu
@christopantz
@christopantz 2 года назад
the dealbreaker with me, for every single one of these monitors, is lack of proper resolution for mac. we neeeeed a third party 220ppi monitor so bad, or for apple to do what windows has been doing for decades and make their UI actually scaleable, and not just based on a factor of 110/220ppi. we have fewer 220ppi options now than we did years ago, which is just insane. as a designer this makes my search for a monitor incredibly frustrating, as i need to be sure that what I am seeing on the screen is accurate, and non-integer scaling destroys any confidence i have in a monitor-industrial design, color, connectivity, size/resolution be damned. this would possibly be enough to force me to windows, except windows does not have gpu acceleration support in indesign like mac does, which is also insane!

Same here. As much as people hate the Lg ultrafine or the new studio display you cant find another monitor with the same ppi.

I trust you more than these videos on RU-vid
@christopantz
@christopantz Год назад
@@anaszahiri8116 The reason I don’t give a solution as you suggest is because I do not have one, I am not a display manufacturer. If you want 220ppi your best options are LG 5k ultrafine, Apple Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, LG 4K 21” ultrafine. There are some others that were released at one point or another but are not easy to get for cheap. Keep in mind my use case is very very specific, and 99% of users do not need the accuracy that I need, which is precisely why there are not a whole lot of monitors with this resolution out there, and the ones that are are very expensive.

Sounds like you were saying you’re about to make a video on it the other accessories… but I saw the Stream Deck in this video which I’d never heard of. I immediately ordered one and got it yesterday. I’m going to use it more as a productivity tool. While I pride myself on my keyboard shortcuts, having a button to press for certain things I can already see is going to be brilliant. I’m a sales engineer, meaning I do a lot of software demos. Having buttons that just take me straight to a certain demo use case is going to be nice. It’s stuff I could pull off with bookmarks or Alfred scripts, but being able to press a button without distracting my audience I think will be pretty cool

The only answer is probably but maybe not, depending on the user. Recently I’ve been surprised to read a few users talking about going Mac>4K with no scaling. Was surprised because in months of observing I’d never seen that before. However, it does show that for a few people, that allegedly works. What I’m used to reading and seeing is that without scaling, Mac>4k 27” yields text and images that are far to tiny to work with, and scaling is necessary. I know that scaling would be necc for me, just based on video recorded examples I’ve seen in presentations. I’ve read and seen a number of times users using native 27” 4K and then placing their face within a few inches of the screen. Painful to watch but whatever works for them. FWIIW YMMV and there are a lot of videos on this platform that focus on the subject of 4K scaling from a Mac with video recorded examples of images and text at various levels of scaling.

BenQ have done a pretty good job with the PD line monitors, specially for the price compare to SW line. My only complaint is that, they advertise this monitor the same es the predecessor of it, the PD2720U. If the this monitor is using the same panel as the 2720U than it does not cover 95% DCI-P. The PD2720U is a GBLED panel not a WLED PFS. GBLED would not cover 95% DCI-P I have Donetsk many different calibration and settings on my PD2720 and would not reach. Overall the monitor color are superb for its trier, I’m very happy with it even though I’m using it as a second monitor.

Having just purchased, spent hours fiddling with and then returning a BenQ production monitor, said to be Mac compatible, and having watched BenQ waffle and change w/re to models X and Mac compatibility, I don’t feel secure enough to take that plunge again. They put stuff out there and then they change. Right after I got the BenQ, I went to support.benq only see a large font paragraph alert saying that the monitor I purchased was suddenly no longer compatible with Mac m series machines. The large bold font alert nature of this told me that previously the monitor was comparable. BenQ implied that Apple was the problem. I have no idea, and when I looked again last night, the big alert paragraph was gone, replaced with a note saying hdmi would not function of the monitor was match with an m1. They’re all over the place, for me ut was impossible to get customer support, and although I wish the monitor had worked out, I have no time to invest in free beta testing for BenQ. Firmware has been reported to be a big issue too, fwiiw.

Anything bigger than that has me turning my head, even if you set up different snap windows. :: Try the new LG DualUp 16:18 monitor. @@arvi8843 No worries about the questions! Feel free to ask as many as you'd like. I'm totally the same way when it comes to buying a new product - I will go deep down the research hole and make sure I'm weighing all my options. So to answer your questions: 1) I can comfortably do two screen splits. Three is definitely possible, but not ideal. I have my laptop open in front of it so use that screen real estate. 2) So while I am a coder, I am also a photographer. I can really take advantage of the 4K resolution of the 32, while the 34 is only 2k. Additionally, the 32 inch has much better connectivity - it has a Thunderbolt 3 port which also outputs up to 85W (which Is what I need to charge my 16 inch MBP). The 34 inch does not have Thunderbolt. Does your country have Amazon? Or where are you purchasing from where there is no return policy? Please let me know if you have any more questions. Not sure how this beats out the LG ultra fine monitors. Similar color, USBC /thunderbolt connector that drive the monitor, other usb connectors on the monitor, AND charges your laptop with 96 watts means you just need one connection. And the base isn’t as big nor the monitor as thick. But I have been thinking about a small OLED tv instead for the perfect blacks.
@BetterCreating
@BetterCreating 2 года назад
I hear you - I personally found the bases of the LGs to be more annoying due to those curved feet - at least with this one you can put things on the base for this one. But have to say those ergo arms look great. Agree - 96watts on LG is better than 65watts on BenQ but if left plugged in - no huge difference really and both still just need a single connection. The thickness of the monitor for me is not an issue when the design is so good and mostly seen from the front. Nice idea looking at OLEDS for perfect black - wonder if you can still find the connectivity and colour profiles. Thanks for watching!

Be aware! These BenQ monitors have only 250-300nits of brightness. This is ok only if you work in a dark room or sit with curtains closed all day. In all other cases, they are unusable. Apple displays have 500nits and it's a night and day difference. My advice: do not buy these BenQ monitors until you are 100% sure that you don't need brightness. To get a feel of how it would look compared to a MacBook Pro, you can set MacBook's brightness to 50-60% and this is basically how this monitor looks at the max brightness.
