I went to see them in Birmingham in 2012 right after this album came out, Child was (I think?) the first song they played and it was absolutely incredible
I can't think of a better song to open an album. Simply perfect. With regard to the mic dying, I think it actually looked really cool seeing Orlando sing but not actually hearing his voice. The Maccabees are the sex.
This album is just perfect. Every single song is pure magic. Great lyrics, amazing Orlando's voice and these guitars..incredible. Really mature album. One of my favorites if not my favorite album ever.
I’ve been coming back here for years, one of my favourites, not sure if it was ever intentional for Orlando not to be heard at the end, but it works & it somehow adds to the ambiance. That voice, everything!
has to be one of the best songs of the last 10 years, especially this performance, so much better than the album version, the drums done my head in a bit on the recording, but this is just magic!
Saw these at Electric Picnic few months back. This song just sent me into another world, it was pitch black dark, cold enough so that you could see your breath in the night air, they started to play this and i was enveloped by pure magic. Great song, great band, great festival, I'd strongly advise any music lover to go. Fantastic. Maccabees
Who can dislike this performance? Seriously. If you didn't enjoy listening to this group, why come to this video? This song performance is utterly amazing
I saw them live probably around the same time as this was filmed and the lasting memory I have is of the performance of this song. I think it was the one they opened with and it was absolutely fantastic
Good Lord and butter .... we may not be able to do much in this country any more, but we can still hold our heads up when our 'popular' musicians are of this quality. Intelligent stuff for adults.
it fits in with their whole we are a band its not just a frontman thing they have going. such a modest and kind band I've met them breifly at gigs and they seem so genuinely pleased to meet fans and hear opinions. felix white is without a doubt the nicest man I have ever met
I don't for the life of me understand how they're not bigger? Still playing small venues? It's not right! It's music injustice! However, when they eventually get HUGE we can stand by and be like 'we told you so'
@boogie624 it's a Gibson es 335, the semi hollowbody one. I saw them on the last date of their album tour, met felix- who was getting McDonald's for the band, and by chance got front row. One of the best nights of my life. They're so amazing live it is better than the album. The brass is good but masks the intricate parts in the song. So so so good.
i agree with @emilyverlie intimate personal venues are a great way to see your favourite bands. Im going to see these guys in the acadamey in dublin in march and im lookin forward to hearing there new songs live. these guys should be as famous as coldplay.
This music is utter magic, has to be the best song from a modern band iv heard in fuckin years, absolute genius! and the older generations moan about music being soulless nowadays!?!?!?!
@stoxy10 No, I've seen them loads, and love that intimacy, don't get me wrong. The point I was trying to raise is that they're AMAZING and still a small band. I was trying to say I can't get my head around that, it makes no sense to me.
@MrRossYtube Yeah, the album really does have the same feel as Total Life Forever had, definitely deeper and darker in the tunes, the maccabees just get stronger and stronger in every album. This is so mature, and just a great album. If you get a chance to see them live do go, their gigs are even scrappier than Foals's (and that some serious mess you'll get into). Album of the year.
pros and cons of this album. cons: Can't play it in loud speakers because you miss of a lot of the subtleties. Pros: whole album with headphones is literally sex in my ear holes. Being a bass player I love the bass lines on some of the songs.
@emilyverlie You're telling me that you're complaining about them playing in smaller venues? Like you'd prefer to see them live in a stadium filled with thousands of people rather them see them in a personal, intimate gig with only hundreds of people?
@sonyson Yeah, this song reflects spanish sahara I think, or maybe blue blood...I have a massive infatuation with Foals so maybe I'll like this album. I'll try go to a gig, they are touring...
anyone else thinks this is way better than the album version? the auto-tune-thingy on the album version dissappointed me a bit because of this amazing version
