I love this movie, its like going back in time back to 1972, the film was actually filmed between september and december 1972. even though i was born in mid 90s, i still have a thing for the 70s and 80s decades even though i did not exist.

i love this fucking movie. its beyond facinating to me. like stepping into a time machine and visiting 1972.

It's too bad this movie has been labeled as "Blaxploitation". This film was too good to be categorized as that. Great filmmaking. It's hard to believe Max Julien never really made many movies before or after The Mack.

At it's core this is a well told man against the world story. There were also some interesting subplots as well. Good flick!

I don't remember much B4 like, 76, but more as the years progress. 79 was AWESOME. Lived in San Antonio TX with my step-dad. The Oil Boom was going on, fast food joints, water parks, go-kart/putt-putt & arcade going up all over. FUN! I remember buying our 1st Atari, my dads record collection (KISS Destroyer, ELP Tarkus, etc). His gold, 78 Lincoln Continental Mark V, etc

Could north americans help me please. I just read "The cather in the rye" and there was this line "Why don't you go home, Mac?", but his name was Holden Caulfield. What does "Mac" mean in the book? The book was written in 1951, the movie "The Mack" wasn't out yet. I read this book in russian and there they wrote "Maк" as well (not the "pimp", but Maк). The word/name "Maк" in russian language means nothing to me. Sounds like a name Mac/Mak. Thank you in advance!

@iscream22 i happen to be white also, i remeber in 89 when i was 13 walking up to the local video shopwith my friend to rent a copy of dolemite the movie on vhs. we loved it. i only knew who he was because i heard him on a big daddy kane record. petty wheat straw, human tornado. hell up in harlem. foxy brown. alll that shit! the mack is king though in my opinion though.

1 other thing I remember, & I hear almost nothing about today, do you remember how dirty most public restroom were in the 70's? I mean, absolutely filthy, to the point of being scary! As a little boy, I was scared to enter a K-Mart restroom. You basically needed a Hazmat suit! Shit (literally) on walls, & ceiling (how?). I think government bio weapons research was or could have been conducted in those restrooms, LOL There must have been no restroom sanitation laws then?

The film is PERFECT,I LOVE it but this trailer is just plain wrong. There's so many ways it could've been made,and this isn't one of them.

@iscream22 Yep! Blackploi flicks are really cool. Actually, they are part of the "New Hollywood" era of film making. I really like movies from the late 60's thru early 80's. I mean I like movies from almost every era (not into silent too much though), but 70's was awesome. My favorite decade! BTW, today many/most movies sacrifice "story", for Special FX. There is nothing like a great storyline because with 1 & a tiny budget can = good movie. Mega-$ budget S-FX + shit story = shit movie.
