There's enough good stuff in Thunderboomer that I inevitably return to it every now and then and I'll always remember it as my gateway drug into this world.
Great stuff. I haven't watched a Mad Max movie since seeing Thunderdome at the drive-in when it first came out. You've inspired me to try the more recent ones and go back and rewatch the older ones as well. 👍🏻
Apparently the kids were at the core of a different screenplay reminiscent of Lord of the Flies and Miller had the idea of converting the script into a Mad Max movie. He needed Byron Kennedy's influence to make it work but sadly Kennedy had already passed away.
This is why LOVE JAMES HANCOCK! Maan I cant believe someone else understands how passionately the FURY ROAD trailers were made - they are designed SO incredibly - probably the best modern trailers Ive seen.. I revisit the 'Retaliation' trailer all the time.. everything it perfect! The build up, the suspense, the music and the TEXT!
Glad you brought up the Boomerang scene with the kid. That was my first introduction to Mad Max. My older brother was watching it on vhs when I was 7 or 8 and that burned into my brain. Of course Tina Turner got me into the next film but over the years the original Mad Max has become my favorite. Ive definitely seen it more than the rest.
That’s the scene I dislike the most. To me, it was corny af. Kinda reminded me of a Jar Jar Binks moment. 😅 I respect that many people like that scene/character tho - it’s just 🙄 for my taste.
I completely agree, and I strongly recommend that anyone who hasn’t seen the first two movies check them out. They’re both my favorites of the franchise. These movies have been a part of my life for years and still hold up today.
Whoa @8:41. That’s the two second clip after all the credits rolled in Furiosa. A writer said those two seconds left it up to audience interpretation. I’m so happy to see this video today after seeing Furiosa last night. Makes so much sense.
While watching Furiosa at the cinema yesterday with my mum, I reminded her that she let my brother and I watch Mad Max 1 and 2 when we were little kids. We grew up very close to where the first movie was filmed and would drive those roads all the time. Mum also worked with Vernon Wells in the early '90's (apparently he wasn't that much different in real life to Wez). All of these movies are my childhood (my brother and I would play Mad Max just like we'd play Star Wars or Superman) and it was a blast yesterday to see Furiosa and get that same rush I've had for the last 40 years.
This video inspired me for my viewing this evening💚🇬🇧🌱 it's 4:30 pm in the UK & I'm 1/2 way through episode one, my god! The world building for the first quarter of the movie followed by another quarter of an hour character building before the loss of his wife we get why we care when it happens! Sorry telling as it should be! I'll maybe be back after the movie finishes but thought I'd share at half time💚🇬🇧🌱
I think my favorite scene out of all the mad max movies, is in fury road, when the one war boy, I believe his name was buzzsaw, gets shot then in his final moments we got to witness him as he destroyed one of the buzzards. Truly epic and in a way made me a little emotional lol. We all got to witness him, what a finally way to go out.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I typed that out and sent it before I watch the video and when I seen it on your list I just laughed and said, “that James Hancock, what a guy” 😂
Saw Mad Max in the theater in 1979. It was really original, but Road Warrior was lots better. The great Vernon Wells was also the big bad who fought Arnold in “Commando.”
Furiosa getting stabbed un Fury Road.. thr cocophony of editing mixed with the choatic buildup of the music, andd then "eham!' it happens, and the music breaks into an epix swelling of melancholic doom.. getting chills writing this? Suprrb filmmaking
Tony Stella's been a good influence on me. Always a pleasure taking a moment to celebrate great movie posters. I'm going to do a video soon on every poster hanging in my apartment.
The Road Warrior is on my top ten list for the greatest movies of all time. I watch it at least once a year. Looking forward to Furiosa and really loved Fury Road, but I wish it had been Mel as old Max out there wandering there wasteland instead of Tom Hardy. It doesn't make sense that Max is younger in that, since it takes place so long after Thunderdome.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Well, my age has something to do with it. I graduated from high school in 1971. And yes, it was a great year for films and music. We saw everything that came to town. No MTV or cable tv back then.
I’m amused that Fallout got a mention while Borderlands got snubbed. It drew exceptionally heavily from the Mad Max aesthetic, even if it didn’t know what to do with it. We’ll soon see whether it can transition to the big screen.
Brollie is streaming a lot of those classic Australian movies - for free. Including Stir The Money Movers The Removalists I grew up in Sydney in the 70s, my 10yrs older brother was a biker in a club, the government had changed after 20+ years - conservatism, censorship & social constraints were torn apart & we were encouraged, for the first time, to define ourselves as more than just sheep herders in the outback. The government wanted us to have an Australian film industry - tax funded - it was a creative explosion. Stone, Wake in Fright, The Last Wave, Shame, Picnic at Hanging Rock and so many more shaped my teenage mind. The women & men acting in our movies & tv series of that time didn't need the 'method' - they simply were the characters they played. Most of our actors of today are continuing the legacy.
Back in the day movies ran for months and years. Now after 3-4 weeks it’s very difficult to see the movie on a large screen. 99% of classic movies would be flops today.
Maybe, but the fact remains that Mad Max is one of the most profitable films ever made. I wish more filmmakers would follow Miller's example and strike out on their own with their own ideas.
Dude, have you played the Mad Max video game? I played it a few years ago on PS4. If you haven’t played it, I highly recommend it! It’s super cheap now. 👍🏽
Do you think Tenebrae would qualify? I feel like it's more of just a giallo since the eroticism is largely confined to the dreamlike flashbacks. Probably my favorite Argento though. And I think Cruising deserves a mention among erotic thrillers. Seems like its reputation is improving with time. I think Friedkin in general is seeing some of his neglected films get some more love after the critics kind of peddled the idea he washed out with Sorcerer and never recovered
