11:08 There are probably some models for this cherry blossom. Either "Matabei Zakura" in Uda, Nara or "Miharu Takizakura" in Miharu, Fukushima, which survived the great earthquake 13 years ago. I wish you will watch them on google, or youtube. Both cherry trees are hundreds of years old and have been carefully protected by local people for generations.

Oh WOW!!! I had no idea such beautiful and ancient cherry trees exist in Japan! I hope that I will get to see them in real life 😍 One of the things I love about Japanese culture is how you take care of the heritage and take good care of the life and environment around you. Truly admirable!

i think the reason why mages are fewer is because after the demon king died the following generations started living in peace, so only people passionate aboug magic are studying it these days, while before people were forced to learn some sort of self defence, this is my theory at least. I love the characters introduced this arc btw, this is a really good arc with a lot of new characters and most of them are really interesting (also Lawine's dress is beautiful).

It is a nice dress design indeed. I think you are right about the lack of mages. In times of peace there's no need to train for battle :)

I'm so glad you picked up the Kanne + Lawine (Kannine? Lawanne?) pairing right away - so many people are like "what is their deal?" and it just seemed really obvious to me, even if it isn't obvious to the characters themselves. Also, LOVE the Fern look. Beautiful. Well done. 😊

Also in the episode before that, there's this moment I think is really significant when Sein asks Fern, "Do you not like Stark?" The look on her face is one of shock and almost fear, and for our girl Fern to show an emotion other than pouting that strongly, I think she's got to really be feeling it. That tells me that even as much as she gives Stark a hard time, the idea that he might think she really *doesn't like him* is frightening. When she asks, "Why would you ask that? Is that how it seems?" I think she's really asking "Is that how it seems to Stark?" Their relationship is SO PURE AND ADORABLE.

You know, that thought has crossed my mind too. She did looked like at least like she was thinking of the possibility of it. She’s not the easiest to read for sure. There’s a moment where Stark says to Frieren that Fern was embarrassed by what Frieren have said (when she was ill) probably because he was there and that made me think that perhaps he knows too but then I reminded myself who we are talking about and no - there no way Stark would ever think that Fern might like him. Also, when she said she is okay with him touching her but he held her arm too strong - that’s my love radar on flashing lights 🤣

They actually do sell raw milk in the supermarket here, it tastes totally different from pasteurized milk. Not quite straight out of a cow, but close enough. Tastes way better.

exactly, not diluted with water but a rich milk that tastes like milk should. I've started drinking oat milk instead with my coffee because I just don't like the taste of supermarket milk, eh

They cannot herd the birds against the barrier, it only blocks one way. The rules stated that any participants leaving it would disqualify his or her whole team.

The barrier is pretty explicitly two way. They comment on how the rule seems dumb since the barrier prevents them from leaving the area. The birds are too fast and hard to find to make herding them a viable strategy

"why did they allow her to join if she was a killer" mostly because it was likely an accident. She passed the test which means she wanted second class certification, if she failed to get it by killing that implies she didn't kill completely on purpose. Plus Frieren just said that participants dying is normal in the first class test, so they can't really complain when first class mages get killed during exam they organised themselves. Although the fact that you can die during the first class exam implies that a decent chunk of the first class mages are also killers, so why should Ubel be disqualified for the same thing?

Originally I thought that the rules stated that killing other mages isn't allowed because when you think about it, to cross to Northern regions you need to have a First class mage accompany you. It shows their worth but there's not many of them. So the 2nd class mages are of certain importance too and there's so many of them there. If all or half were to die that would be really cruel and inefficient. I'm on episode 26 now so I know now that they don't care who survives the first exam. They had safety measures for the second exam (golem). So they are okay if people die in the first exam since it's not that difficult compared to the dungeon later on and whoever is able to summon help then I suppose is worthy living. It's brutal. Ubel knew what she was capable of. She wanted to test her powers on amage who was skilled in defense and she knew that she could kill him. People might like her but I don't think she belongs in the era of peace. She is straight up lethal warrior-mage capable of killing. I understand that she has spared a lot of people that stood in her way but she also disposed of many. I like Frieren show for being calm and peaceful with occasional action and fights. Ubel is a straight up anti-hero in there. She stands out as the baddie just waiting for someone to tick her off

Yes, don't judge a book by it's cover, we're going to get to know a lot new interesting characters 😊 Btw, "Übel" means very bad or feeling nauseous in german. Other new characters: Kanne = pot Lawine = avalanche Denken = thinking Wirbel = whirl Sense = scythe Genau = exact And did you notice that Fern asked Stark to be more gentle and at the end of the episode he was milking cows? It's the small and subtle things in this show 😊

I know that Übel have mercifully spared some that stood in her way and she has greatly helped during the exam (later on) but I'm not gonna lie - I don't like her character. I may laugh with her and congratulate for accomplishing certain goals and helping other but it doesn't change the fact that she truly lives up to her name (thanks for providing me with translations). Oh, that's what it meant when he was milking the cows! It didn't cross my mind. I guess I'd have to re-watch it again and think about it. The show is full of details and hints! :)

@@ExpectoRidiculum She's kind of a fan favorite, probably BECAUSE the way she is. But I don't like her that much either, she's fun to watch but more or less a psychopath. I need to sympathize with characters, good or bad, to actually like them and that just doesn't work for me with her 🙂
