The shape of a backwards L creates terrific shaft motion. Find out how easy it is to use this to strike the ball better.

Hey guys, I had to come back to comment that I took this out on the course yesterday and had the most comfortable and reliable iron swing ever. Previously I was finding success randomly by having a 'straight back' swing thought but it would always crumble as the round went on. I see now that I was fluking this motion you were talking about without knowing what I was doing. Doing the 2 parts of the 'L' has my shots waaaay straighter. It's also fixed my tempo I think, as I used to be fast and snatchy on the takeaway, this slows me down and feels really smooth. great info, new subscriber instantly.

Thanks for letting us know it helped you - this visual really has helped a number of our students. It is really easy to visualize that the hand path should match the club head path, but that visual seems to always lead to people getting the hands going too far in front of the body and you end up flipping of the club. Once you understand that arm motion is primarily vertical and that the body rotation provides the around element of the swing - and that the hands do up and down on the right side of the body - it can really help. You can visualize the bottom of the L is the get the hands to the right side then feel the primarily up and down arm mechanics. It seems to free up many of our students to rotate in posture much better through impact and that helps you with an arm motion that leads to wrist angles that will have a nice forward shaft lean and compression on the ball at impact. If you ever want a second set of eyes on your swing check out our swing review program on our altaview.golf site. Thanks!

Just found your website and have found it so easy to understand compared with most of the other ones. Thanks for taking my game to the next level...

Dude his hand go straight towards the ball from the top not straight down. C’mon with this “magic” garbage. Maybe it’s the sweat pants that is throwing me off.

You're not the only one that has made a comment on the joggers! In any case perhaps we didn't make it clear enough - when you look at a swing clearly there is an arc in terms of how the hands move in absolute terms. What we have found that has helped many of our students is to help them get the arm motion to be much more vertical **relative to the right side of the body** and let the body rotation provide the majority of the around element of the swing. SO yes - hands move in an arc and the core rotation is very key in that. Arms help bring the club up and down, trunk rotation back to the right and around to the left. We've just found that helping students get much more of the up and down arm mechanics in place as opposed to around leads to avoiding the cupped lead wrist and the chicken wing. The cupped lead wrist and chicken will will almost have to happen when the arms are getting too far to the left side relative to the trunk at impact. So our goal was to help with a visual where you still have hands very much on the right side of the midline of the body at impact. Pros tend to have about 45 degree open pelvis at impact. Hands don't catch up to the belt buckle until well after impact. Thus this visual go getting the arm to feel the force up and down on the right side and let the body rotation primarily drive the to the right and to the left motion. Hope that helps clarify. Thanks again for watching and providing the comment.

Is this the same for Driver?
@AltaViewGolf
@AltaViewGolf Год назад
Yes - this same concept works for driver. For driver you'll note you keep the shaft more shallow throughout as it is longer than the iron shafts, but the same feeling of the backwards L will help maintain the shaft motion to let you have solid contact. Thanks for the question and hope you enjoy the channel.

Appreciate that - we always to to take real world thoughts and issues that we see in the golfers that we work with as well as things we have learned in our own work and try to relate the topics to what ordinary people struggle with. Hope we can be an ongoing resource for you!

When you say ‘arms go up’ you must continue the shoulder turn or you end up with a reverse pivot

Absolutely agree - the issue most people have that we have worked with in in person lessons is they try to get depth with arm motion instead of the trunk rotation and that generally leads to over the top. We have found working in our lessons that generally having people feel the arms move like this reverse L enable a more fluid body rotation - because now that IS the only way to get the proper depth. But until you can convince yourself that arm motion is primarily vertical once the hands get to the right side of the body most people we have taught struggle with too shallow of a shaft too early. But get a model like this and it has helped many of our student free up body rotation - both on the backswing and the downswing. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks! This model has helped a lot of people in face to face lessons. It isn’t intuitive but once you feel it it promotes a very fluid transition that doesn’t come over the top.
