Free kicks are an important item in football. Free kicks that curve past the standing players and the Goalkeeper and into the goalpost are always a charming sight for football lovers. When you see some of these free kicks, you often feel that the ball is bending by defying the laws of physics. Because the ball bends too much. According to the laws of physics, an object moving in a straight line can only deviate from its linear motion if a force is applied in a direction different from its path. The main force acting on the moving ball is gravity. It acts downwards. As a result, the ball can bend downwards. But we do not see any force acting on the ball from the side to bend the ball sideways.
