Magician VS Gambler is one of my favorites. Such a strong story-based effect with the door wide open for a range of kicker endings.

Lorayne's Impromptu OOTW is one of my favourites. I do that anytime I want to do an OOTW. He has so many "good stuff" in his books.

Favorite OOTW for me as well! I love the fact that it’s impromptu and the gradation of the phases , the more the routine is going and the more the spectator is doing the things (and the less the magician does), and the final convincer with the remainer of the deck is so killer by itself, without having to drag too much attention on it! I re-read the magic book now and since it was one of my first magic book, we indeed have the tendancie to check « the latest and greatest » but there are so great tricks to perform out there :)

Much like you, I took a hiatus to concentrate on more pressing matters for about 20 years. When I first got into card magic, I was recommended a Harry Lorayne VHS tape. That launched me to another level. Friends have actually screamed and ran away when I performed what I learned from Harry. And they wouldn't let me shuffle on poker nights anymore.😆 Harry wasn't just a great magician and performer. When he talks to you in his instructional, he just sounds like a real sincere guy. And like you said about his books, when I was reading them I would hear his voice in my head and it did feel like he was there. A guy like Harry is an uncommon caliber amongst men. Thanks for making this video.

My eyes always go to that tower speaker in the background😅 Must be a music guy, maybe vinyl 🤔 Bought a H. Lorayne book from Don a while back on Ken Krenzel classics due to your referencing. Don has great stuff over there! Brilliant coverage! What a legend Harry was and his legacy will continue on!

When I heard of Harry's passing, I splurged hundreds on books from Harry's website. His books and DVDs are treasures. The latest I did was "Thirteen" from Jawdroppers , and yes jaws literally dropped . 😲😀. I always perform Family Unit, Great Divide , Two Shuffles Harry from the Best Ever series on VHS (now on DVD). Mag vs Gambler is an absolute GEM !!!. Thank You so much Harry !

I sent Harry an email 20 years ago to thank him for helping me change my life for the better personally and professionally. Not long after I received a reply email from him. I was so excited to read his reply. Such a gentlemen he was. God bless you Harry and your family, you will be sorely missed by many.

Back in 1962, I learned at least half of the tricks in CUCM. Today, I still find myself doing "Out of this Universe" (with a patient audience) and "Magnetic Reversals." My favorites? Maybe not. But they've sure withstood the test of time! Oh, and that book got me started on a lifetime with the Curry Turnover Change!

I discovered Harry’s book the memory book when I was in middle school. At that point the book had already been published for over 25 years and I found one of the early editions. It was being discarded from my school library, but I was just so fascinated by the topic, I took it home and read it over the next few weeks. Over the years, those memory tricks have certainly served me well. Honestly, the best trick you’re going to get out of that book is how to memorize a deck of cards pretty quickly. Being able to memorize it forwards and backwards is a huge help if you’re going to be doing memorized stack decks. It still is n a lot of bookstores and you can get the cheap paper back for about six bucks. Of course that book was it with a controversy which seems to be a bit of a reoccurring theme in Henry’s life! He had an amazing co-author that he worked with. Unfortunately, there were some legal challenges over who got the rights to the work and such. But his co-author has also written a lot of really cool memory books. His name is Jerry Lucas, and he is still very much alive.

Hours working on the Paul Curry’s Turnover Change in Close-up Card Magic & Ultra-bind is part of a rope routine I do. Was working to make Voice Print (off L&L’s Greatest Card Magic dvd) a go-to but then discovered Dan Harlan’s version using the method called Win-Win. Harry was great guy. I heard he could be pushy but TBH that’s surival if you are going to have a career like him. Wonderful sentiments in your post for a major figure. May he rest in peace.

Being relatively new to magic, I don't have a ton of books, and the only one I have by Harry Lorayne is The Magic Book, which I haven't read cover to cover yet either. That said, I did like I've Got Your Number, because (trying not to give too much info) it seems more likely to hit than how I've seen the same basic effect presented before, and I think it also expands on what I've seen before.
