This is a remake of the Funkadelic song Good old music, released originally in the first Funkadelic album in 1970. George Clinton produced this Detroit Soul group for Westbound Records, the same label for which he produced the Funkadelic albums and singles from 1968 to 1976. Musicians behind the singers may surely be Eddie Hazel (guitar), Billy Nelson (Bass), Mickey Atkins (organ) and Tiki Fulwood (drums), the original Funkadelic Not a HD quality sound because taken from a very rare 45.

This song is led by my brother Paul Willis. We were from St. Louis and all he ever wanted to do was sing. He left St. Louis in the mid 60's for Detroit and eventually got with this group. My mom & I only heard 3 of his records because this was during the payola period & they didn't have the financial backing needed to pay the disc jockeys for air time. In early 1973 weeks after his 27th birthday, he was diagnosed with brain cancer & had surgery. My mom brought him back here and struggled to take care of him. After 10 months, the tumor grew back....he died in May 1975. My mom sadly passed in April 2011. Over the years I tried to find information on the internet about the group but couldn't, we have nothing about the group during his singing days. I found lots of songs this year on RU-vid, my mom would love to have heard her big boy sing lead on some of these records. I love & miss both of them so much. Margo Williams, Florissant, MO.

Margo Williams what a moving story, Paul had a great voice and it's a shame more people didn't get to hear it. Sorry for your loss.

Backing track from the 1st funkadelic album "FUNKADELIC ",the musicians were in disarray so George had to use some Motown musicians, notably: Rare Earth on drums &lead guitar, Bob Babbitt on bass ,and ivy jo hunter on organ along with Eddie on rythim guitar (Billy was in the process of getting the real funkmob back together) info per "funkadelics westbound 45's "c.d. liner notes. "FUNKADELIC "was recorded in the summer of 1969 and released in the spring of 1970

@@chrisedwards3214 Correct. The Parliaments first did it for Revilot Records in the summer of 1968. It was a fairly big hit in Detroit/Windsor, and CKLW gave it some airplay, but it otherwise failed to make the charts. The following year, after some legal wrangling with Revilot (George was not legally allowed to use the name "Parliaments", so he came up with a new name for his new group, Funkadelic), George Clinton formed Funkadelic over at Westbound Records (which was off of 8 Mile Rd. at the time), the band did a cover of "Good Old Music" and slowed the beat and rhythm down a bit to stretch it from a two & a half minute song to over 5 minutes as a jam session on their first album. Two releases after the Westbound release of Funkadelic's "I'll Bet You" (their first Top 100 hit), this cover by the Magictones was released with a similar arrangement as Funkadelic's, but edited for airplay on radio.

I thought that was the same song that was on an old P-Funk album I had. Was it on 'Free Your Ass...' or 'Maggot Brain,' or the other one I can't remember the name!? Or, before that, like around the time of "I Want to Testify?'

Nice version! Been listening to its A-side forever but never listened to this till today! TBH I thought this would sound more like the earlier Parliaments version from the Revilot years. But no complaints either way!
