Artists in the wild recognise members of their pack by their collections of oddities. Opposing pack groups are also recognised in this matter and are given "constructive crittisisum" ultimatrly destroying the other clans moral and already non existant self esteem. However wild artists will team up with opposing clans to fight a larger enimy, sutch as "karens" or "people who pay with exposure".
You jest but the last time I went to camping I collected remnants of an old doll and its still sitting in my drawer because I haven't decided what to do with it yet
As a Groundskeeper at a uni who mostly specializes in Waste Management; this creeps me out on a whole other level; I’m just imagining this happening to me.
That was exactly my first thought, that it was just coating. I don't think a fully metal heart would stay in the middle of things as light as packing peanuts. And if it had sank to the bottom, against the pavement, the person picking it up would feel it.
this is episode FIVE, bud, give them a minute to get to know each other... how far in are you now? Let's just say if you don't want to listen to a podcast with a gay couple as the protagonists, you're going to be disappointed
can someone tell me what happened more or less in ep four, i didn't see this ep subtitled in my language. I don't know any English, this is all Google translator
@@corvidaesy8008 There's overlap among almost all the powers, it's likely both. For example the anatomy class students were DEFINITELY Stranger, but they performed pretty Fleshy acts like Jarod
“nobody doesn’t seem to realize up to a dozen ppl might be seeing what you thrown away” me, remembering all the 1D x reader fanfiction i wrote in my notebook at 10 y/o: 👁👄👁
Im thinking that maybe it wasnt allan texting "found him". It couldve been the person bringing the bags took allan and texted the other garbage man from the victims phone, as in "i found allan" not "found the teeth guy"
This is what I thought too! Though I was inclined to interpret it as a sort of bait so that this tooth fairy persona could… eliminate the other garbage man as well. I was wrong about that, at least.
That's a good point, didn't ever consider that. I just took his impression of being texted by his friend for granted, but it could easily have been this. @torttania Can't have such a lovely gift-wrapped present be missed and just tossed in the trash, now can we? Tbh, there's other lore reasons that could apply to why, but it'd be a spoiler to mention them so I won't.
Oooor maybe a writer who does a really deep research about everything in their story and did some experiments with dolls to know the exact sounds/scratches/damages to them. Well. Maybe they also wanted to know how cramped the character's hand would get after writing something for a thousand times, and wanted to know the exact damages to one tooth using corpses from cemetery (or maybe it was a fucking maniac that lives somewhere else and keeps a poor person in the basement (Allan?!!! they added Allan???!!!) and makes them butcher dolls and writing one phrase...)
the escalation of concerning shit to find in garbage bags is so wild here. doll heads: creepy but cliche, easily explained away. prayer paper: disturbing to folks with religious backgrounds, but not super nefarious. PRESUMABLY HUMAN TEETH: DEEPLY ALARMING, APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES NEEDED ON THIS ONE. an anatomically correct ice cold heart with the name of the dude who's gone missing: idk man i think i'm done here, bye. the voices of the different statement givers so far have been really strong, the stories have felt really authentic to the characters telling them. i see the narrator is still being rude about one of his assistants on tape. very bad manners!
Maybe it's because, in a normal situation, teeth should be inside the mouth, aligned side by side in two rows (one up, one down), so when you see teeth outside a mouth and/or scattered randomly, your brain automatically goes "wait this is not right". I realize now that it was probably a rethorical question but since I've already written all that might as well keep it haha
I know this is probably a rethorical question, but honestly I think it's because of how many people you should 'collect' from tk get enough to fill a trashbag. Like that's a LOT of teeth. You never see so many in one place, and people have around ~28 teeth in their mouth. It's,,,, yeah
I think it’s the symbology. Teeth are for self-service, right? You eat with teeth, talk with them, animals defend themselves, etc. all pretty necessary things. When teeth are removed entirely, you become worried about whoever they belonged to. But when they’re there, just not in the way you expected, it’s worse, because it suggests that whatever the teeth belongs to is also not what you expect, and maybe dangerous.
Spoilers for the episode below . . . "okay so he's just robbed a bunch of graves that's not so spooky-" "They were all the exact same tooth" .......................How to disturb and viscerally upset your audience in 7 words or less
@@tmaxgo6696 Depends on country/etc. Taking DNA tests on confirmed human teeth to match with missing person reports would make sense though. Makes you wonder at which point the technician started to freak out. "Okay, so tooth number three. Same DNA. Huh, twins?" A few minutes later "Tooth thirteen. Well, would you look at that. Same DNA. That's it. I quit!"
This is my favorite story so far. To me, it strikes to a very real fear of knowing there is a serial killer out there. The doll heads remind me of trophies and the prayer seems like the creation of a huilty conscience. No idea what to make of the metal heart, except that I think Allan is quite dead.
@@drinkerofpaintthey’ve already called the police for mysterious happenings at the same house when they found a bag full of human teeth. Why wouldn’t the police believe him when weird shit happens again?
These stories are scary as hell. Yet I’m here to get to the bottom of things and see what this show is about also to get the good stuff. I think it will be well worth it
Cause it mean whoever colected them was collecting them for decades and with any means to collect them one might come up with that amount of time and dedication is disturbing.
If they were different teeth you could think it's just an insane person grave robbing or something similar, weird and probably dangerous, but very much human and explainable The same teeth tough? Completely unnatural, can't be reasonable explained
You know, when I was listening to the "interesting thing about the teeth" I expected them to be all out of the same mouth. But THIS. THIS IS WAY CREEPIER.
that’s wild that it was all the same tooth… this is so well written it’s crazy 😭 like, i’ll hear something and i’ll stand up or audibly gasp. it’s crazy. love it so far!
omg you're so me when I first listened to this. I started my first relisten and I still feel that way even tho I know what's coming...jon and his plot twists during sentences!
I'm gonna be completely honest - Rusty Quill is so good at narration and podcasts I could listen to y'alls talk about the ins and outs of garbage collection all day and be fascinated by it.
So I've started to go back and re-listen to these to try and make some sense of everything, writing down names and events as there have been a number of times when I've thought to myself, "Hm... I feel like that was supposed to be a big reveal, but I that name doesn't ring any bells," and I'm a bit confused when it comes to filling in my timeline so far: The original statement was given Feb 23, 2009. Keiran states that, "on the 8th of August last year," Alan texts him. This would have had to be August 8, 2008. Alan's brother, Michael, reports Alan missing "on the 20th of August, 2009." Did it really take over a year to report him missing or am I misunderstanding the order of events?
ooh i might be wrong, bc i ALSO have trouble remembering their names/dates/etc., but somewhere in s1, someone gets mad at jon bc he messed up some case names/dates and they wanted him to rerecord those case statements. again, not sure if this was one of the mistakes he made, but it might be!
In the forums it was confirmed that the date was misspoken on accident and then in Mag 33 Tim pointed out the inconsistencies to Jon about them being a year apart
I love this. Some good spooky stories. Great job on giving the characters some depth too. On one hand pissed that I just heard of the magnus archives. On the other hand it would probably be for the better since 14 year old me wouldn’t sleep after hearing this.
Just started this week and honestly same. This came out when I was 15/16 and even then I was still scared of horror. Tbh I think the only reason it doesn't scare me now is bc I'm an nbc hannibal fan😂
If I had never been to Katsucon, the first three things they found might have been creepy to me. But I have friends that handed out plastic teeth and tiny plastic baby’s at that con. So uh. I’m desensitised.
Slight spoilers for later on I love this episode, I did special effects in college and I got my mate from the course into it. We literally have thrown out old props and casts that we thought would probably freak out the bin man, definitely a bunch of doll head casts and im pretty sure teeth aswell. We later worked on a film set that was absolutely chaos, I sent him the later episode that is on a film set and we laughed about how we wouldn't be surprised if the same thing was going on behind the scenes 😅
Huh. I had been listening to this, and I had a video of birds for my cats up on the tv. Apparently my tv has a sense of drama, because at some point during this episode, it encountered an error and stopped working. I only noticed this afterwards, but I do appreciate my tv giving me a proper moment of silent horror.
Farming can be pretty dangerous. Lots of large and sharp equipment, sometimes there's stuff in or on the ground you have to look out for, and if you've got animals that presents a whole different can of worms to deal with
Even if your not using tractors or scythes it's still dangerous. Like the story mentioned in the recent Last Week Tonight episode about farmworkers, where a farm worker got dehydrated from doing hard work in the hot sun, and wound up going the wrong way, passing out before they found their way to water. In that particular case it was a child, but it can happen to adults as well.
I am really enjoying this podcast! It's like my mind is opened not only to the different kinds of eerie but also to the different perspectives from which one can tell an intriguing story, it's really making me think what things can be considered when writing a character. I'm really curious how the other episodes are gonna go, I'm kind of in disbelief that one podcast can contain so many interesting concepts.. I feel really engaged and so far each episode has made me want to theorize with others. I think I might need to find a listening buddy if that's a thing?
Spoiler observation (I've listened to the whole series so hiding this): . . . . . . . . . They often reference a female cop dealing with these things....I know they're not all in the same location, but I so wonder how many of these might be Daisy or Basura! I never considered that on past relistens but this time I'm noticing it's a lot of female cops and they DO get "marked" by the policy agency to deal with the weird stuff.....
Am I piecing this together right? It took Alan's brother an entire *year* to report him missing? Statement given February 2009. "8th of August last year" (2008) was the final text conversation. "Alan Parfitt was reported as a missing person by his brother Michael on the 20th of August 2009"
Waaait I am new to this podcast so I don't have all the information but I have a theory: So, the heart is probably Alan's heart And this takes place in 2008. And Mary Keay from the last episode ALSO died in 2008. Maybe the prayer paper with the "Latin" has something to do with Mary Keay
**SPOILERS** * * * * * * * My guess is it’s closer to The Stranger. The teeth did initially make me think Flesh, but the doll heads, the fact that they’re all the same tooth, the anatomically correct heart made of inorganic material all point towards The Stranger. The Stranger is all about the uncanny, unnerving, and unknown. That’s this to a T. The Flesh is usually grosser and more visceral. This feels closer to the shape-shifting anatomy students, who were aspects of The Stranger. 😊
@@TheNitpickChick Nope, it's Flesh. Jonny confirmed in one of the Q&As. Flesh also delves into mass production, the fear that we are just meat and parts to be consumed or discarded. Its that side of the Flesh.
that nightmare that i used to have about all my teeth falling out and pouring out in a river of teeth again and again? yeah i'm gonna have that again now
So was the heart just encased in metal? Cause I’m pretty sure if it was solid throughout, it would have weighted a lot more than a garbage bag can take.
I’m pretty sure it was the weird students with generic names, the ones that put the teeth in their teacher’s apple, trying to figure out how to present as normal, anatomically correct humans
@@elspeth6244 Well maybe that would work for the teeth, but what about the prayer paper and the dolls? And why make Alan Parfitt disappear? Why the metal heart with his name on it? The first time I listened to this, I thought each of the bags must be some kind of remnant or symbol for a different missing/dead person, but I don't know who/what would have taken/killed them or why. I feel like we can cross off the Buried, the Corruption, the Dark, the Desolation, the Eye, the Vast, and the Web as none of them seem connected to *any* of the bags or event as a whole. But other than that? I feel like I could at least make weak arguments for the rest. Dolls are often related to the Stranger. The Prayer Paper makes me think of the End except this feels way too active for the End and the fact that the thin strip seems to just keep going also feels a bit Spiral. Alan Parfitt's obsession, which may or may not be how each previous victim was lured in, almost seems like Eye or Hunt, but the patient waiting around is definitely not hunt. It's weird to think the teeth might be anything *but* Flesh, though I suppose Spiral could also make it happen. Overall, I think the Spiral/Distortion having fun and drawing from other entities is the most likely explanation, but. Yeah, unlike a lot of other episodes, this one only gets *weirder* in hindsight.
Ludere Igne Assuming that they are the students, I would have thought that the dolls would have been used as a means of learning what a human should look like and that Alan’s disappearance was a way of them aquiring a cadaver for further study of human anatomy, hence why they don’t breathe or undestand how a heart should beat in later episodes, as their only experience had been with a dead one. I would assume that the metal heart was an attempt at ‘creating’ one for their own bodies. I can’t figure out what the paper is though and I agree that multiple entities might have been at work in this statement.

as someone who has accidentally swallowed my own tooth before, I did not like the feeling in my throat when they mentioned the teeth that fell out of the bag.
I had chills sent down my spine when they said, “It was filled with teeth.” And it’s the same tooth!? AND there’s Latin writing!? The question is, how is it the same tooth?
How British is this podcast? Basically: "My life might have been in danger, but I didn't want anyone to think I was complaining." The only thing to make it more British would be apologising to the monster as it devours you.
(EPISODE SPOILERS) All the same exact tooth? All (presumably) from the same human? uh oh. We got some time shenanigans or other supernatural cloning-type something-er-other goin' on! If it's just the exact same type of tooth then, man, that's a whooooole lotta bodies.
