the dinner scene is so nice and peaceful, truly a beautiful image of a happy couple and their younger sibling. They were all quite casual and familiar with one another, and spoke from the heart. Qianlong saw Arou’s merit and also liked her as a person (+ her father’s accomplishment) and wanted to look out for her by finding her a good match for marriage. But that’s all ruined by Arou herself

Ruyi should have married A'ROU off then. Later she let A'ROU talk her out of marrying her off. Ruyi was too soft back then. That is why they framed her. Sending Ruyi to the cold palace lead to both her and Hailan becoming more willing to fight back.
