Love me some shrimp! My mother's family was from south Georgia. Some connection with some of the "shrimpers" I suppose. What an experience! Deck hands wading in 12 inches of shrimp and GOD only knows what other creatures! I'll never forget it! thanks for this!
I remember watching them go by on the horizon, when the territorial waters of the US was only 12 miles. They would be staggered about 2 miles apart so as not to miss any area. You always could tell the ship that had the surveillance gear because there were no seagulls behind it.
Interesting stuff. I didn't know ME had a 🦐 fishery. Worked w/ Capt whose family fished lobster and scallops out of Correa, Maine, but never mentioned 🦐 Is it still viable, anyone know?
Fish seem to get a pass from the animal rights folks, same as insects. I've always thought that if fish could scream or otherwise vocalize when the hook is set in their mouth, only sadists would ever take up fishing as a hobby. Nets full of whimpering shrimp might have the same effect on commercial fishing. Whether anyone would think twice after hearing fatally poisoned houseflies or ants moan after being sprayed is another question we'll never find the answer to.
