It was a defective camera battery. The battery is able to keep up with photo taking, but not with video-shooting. In other words, when shooting video, the camera is using power faster than the defective battery can deliver. The first gap in the video was simply a camera reboot to see if that would fix the problem. The second gap in the video was a battery swap -- which clearly did fix the problem.
