Top notch vid once again 😊 Haven’t played Stover in 10+ years. Was a lovely course back then and these changes look great! Looking forward to the next update beginning of October 👍
Always enjoy the greens keeper videos and particularly the update to Stover, these guys do tremendous work and get little recognition from us. This is why when I see any greens keeper, I thank them for their hard work. Cheers.
You’re right Dan a black van shows more dirt. Great SMS always good to hear from Jason, I notice more of those things you two discuss now when I’m playing different courses
I love these videos! So great to listen to to Jason explain things. Course looks wonderful and can’t wait for a future course vlog from there. I think way too many golfers have no clue how much goes into maintaining a course. Glad you got some local honey Dan, good for allergies!
White van man but not Essex!!! Thanks for the update. Always enjoy seeing how a project progresses. What an amazing looking course. Definitely on the bucket list.
Short par 3 are the best every day, I will never understand why a par 3 are more then 200 yards. Perfect par 3 are 100 to 160, makes it more fun and more frustration when you miss... :)
Only downside to a white van or SUV is that you look like you're driving around town in a refrigerator. Dark colors such as black DO show dirt more clearly.
Using our own green keeping team over the past 6 years to make improvements in drainage of greens and re levelling our tees has been a game changer over the use of outside contractors in the past! That are both costly and don’t really have the condition of the course at heart! Progress has been a little slower over the years but the quality of work and reduced disruption on the course has been well worth the wait and engages our staff in work not normally associated with our team in the past!
I like the new van ! It's good to see and listen to what Jason has to say again. Nice work! As mentioned early on, those "tipping bucket" automatic rain gauges are not very accurate at all. Search for a gauge that is 4" wide (holds 10" of water) with a center column of 1" , accurate to 1/100", (the excess will overflow into the larger cylinder and can be poured into the center column and read/calculated.) Take daily readings and keep a log (which I'm sure Jason does). Cheers.
20 mins in the mention of your famous five wood!! I bet it was the white one. Great Sunday show, listening to a man who obviously loves his job and is proud of what he is doing at his new club, for the benefit of his current membership and also for the future. Hopefully leaving a great legacy. Fascinating to understand some of the things that go in to both designing and improving the course. The rebuild of a tee box to improve what looks like a scruffy one due to so many golfers taking divots on it as they hit short irons shows how Jason is trying to get improvement by simply levelling out and increasing the useable area to alleviate the problem I am sure the DHG Christmas skirmish or a local Bus Tour could be coming for Stover in the near future!!
Really interesting to see what's been done. I'd love to know rough costs for the in-house projects. What's the price of relaying a green or tee box? What does it cost to turn a bunker into the beautiful fluffy traps at Stover? My club always say they can't afford to fix the bunkers on our course
Hi Dan... Looks like it was a good growing season for the grow in. I saw there was lots of good drainage in the fairways from that old drone footage. ...that will be good for winter. Yes the thatch layer takes a little time to build up... but that will be OK going into winter. being a bit firmer will keep them from getting torn up with ball marks. Par 3 tees always get hammered. LOL No matter how big they are you always wish they were bigger LOL. All the new changes look really good and fit in perfectly. Yes changes aren't always about making a hole(s) play harder...could be a maintenance thing like drainage issues, or a green rebuild, where once you start with that, many times it expands to the entire hole. LOL... or just plain aesthetic reasons. I love greenskeeping as much as playing the game too, Dan. Myself and my old head pro are trying to get a project going here in Saskatchewan. I found some dunes land along a lake, and the plan is to build a links course that will give a true Scottish links experience. Builder who works with the Cabot group and Bandon Dunes designer/builder, is onboard for the project. We have our fingers crossed we can get the land. If anyone want to see the land.. google maps.. Lake Diefenbaker, Saskatchewan Canada..... Douglas Provincial Park sand dunes. It's at the southeast side of the lake. 😁 tell me what you think of that land?
Great to see what they’ve done Dan,we are meant to be having stuff going on at our course and a new clubhouse so we’ve got some exciting times ahead of us just like to see it happen and for it to start
No deeper shine than a black vehicle when clean and polished. That said, the old expression “you don’t own a black car it owns you “ is true. Or, you will only own a black car once lol.
Always like the greenkeeping videos, and its great to have a Stover update and see how allp that work has developed. Jason's dog is living the dream, spending all day out on the course, chasing squirrels and touching up the golfers for treats. You'll have to film a match on the course next year.
I can confirm that black cars always need cleaning …! Interesting to see how the course has developed and when the trees develop the definition is going to change dramatically
What a great Job Jason and his team has done at Stover, the membership should be very proud of them all. If anyone is visiting the S.West this is a must play course.
