We ordered an hourglass off eBay but after 5 weeks, it never arrived. The whole production was waiting on this final prop and we couldn't wait any longer. We decided to have it custom made instead. The final result was much better than its eBay counterpart!
This behind the scenes video features glass blower Mark Eliott markeliottglas... and music by Paul Halley www.paulhalley...

Thanks David! The hour glass wasn't really designed to be truly functional, so it runs out after 45 seconds as the hole is quite large through the neck. However with a little movie magic, it appears to last for about 5 minutes :)

Good question! For the sand, I purchased a bunch of super cheap hour glasses from a store, broke them open and used the sand from that. I sealed the small hole left by the glass blower with a clear resin.

Wow! You actually took the time to make an hour glass, not buy one. That really shows discipline and hard work. NIce!

There's usually a small hole left with blown glass. Just pour sand through it the seal it with resin.

Wonderful - the movie, the idea, the music, the props, Mr. Glassblower, everything. You are amazing! Can you tell me which material you used for the rabbit-parts of the clock? And - most importantly - may I try to make a replica for myself? I just love the position of these rabbits and those two in combination with the hourglass are so beautiful.

gorgeous. Plus having it made specially for the film gives it that little bit of extra meaning.

My goodness, I thought that was a pipette from the second shot onwards. Best use of pipettes I ever heard of.

personally, i think that the hour glass being hand crafted really increased the quality of this film. afterall it's a one of a kind. :) Does it actually keep a specific measurement of time? if so that's really cool either way amazing prop for an amazing piece of art.

Does anyone know how hourglasses are calculated to have e the exact amount of sand and the exact size of the neck match with the time or do hourglass makers just go with the flow

+mikkelhaxer I have the language written down but can't make out the symbols on the left of the hourglass.
@Mrstealth93
@Mrstealth93 8 лет назад
Emma Welsh You mean on that stand that holds the hourglass? The two first symbols from the top looks identical to the others on the right side.
@emmawelsh5336
@emmawelsh5336 8 лет назад
Yes. I can read the too two on the left. But not the bottom two. On the right it says make.
@Mrstealth93
@Mrstealth93 8 лет назад
Emma Welsh I just checked again and the symbols on the left support is a little bit different. The top symbol is the same as the top right symbol, only rotated 180 degrees. The next one is a spiral like symbol that curls towards the hourglass. Then its a T like symbol followed by a arrow pointing up with a smaller version of the second symbol on the left side.
