Thany you so much Lilli for all your good tips. I especially like the with tracing the pieces with fray check before cutting. I hadn't thought of that and it is so difficult to do neatly once the pieces are cut. Great tip!! Can't wait to try my next project.
You're so welcome! Though the tracing it done with glue, like Aleene's or white glue, in a squeeze bottle. I don't use fray check as it is too liquid-y and spreads fast, so the glue is a better alternative in my opinion :) It dries quickly too! I hope that helps! Glad you like the video :)
I love this series so much! I’m a new doll maker & this is a big help. Any tips for sewing the costumes as I’ve seen many makers glue entirely instead of sewing?
I'm so happy to hear you like the videos! Yes, every doll maker is different in how they construct the clothing, and I use a combination of sewing and gluing. I sew the main construction seams as I feel it is sturdier and drapes well. I use a short beading needle with silk thread and sometimes invisible thread. I'll use glue to tack down parts and add buttons and some trims. I'll have to do a video on hand sewing sometime!
@@lillislittles yes please I would really love a video on this topic ! Thank you very much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and tips, it’s really an inspiration to try something new that can seem quite daunting . Thank you for answering my question too 🤗
@@dinatursic5899 I really do like to share, as that is how I learned. It is wonderful you are going for it! It is a bit overwhelming at first, but you learn with each doll you create and it is so rewarding! :)
Thank you Lilli for your video! I never used liquid fabric stiffener with a brush, if the fabric is silk, do I have to fear stains if the fabric liquid saturation (for example if I put too much on one pleat and not so much in another) is not even? and the parts you don't drape, you don't apply the stiffener , does the color stay even?
Yes, you do have to be careful how you use the fabric stiffener as not all fabrics will respond well to it, especially some silks. Make sure to test it out ahead of time. Sometimes the color will darken and especially in the folds. This is silk dupioni and it did well as I used very little stiffener fluid in it (it is mostly water) and tested it first. I also think that because it was such a dark color, it worked well. If I can't use stiffener, I will use my iron and tack down folds with invisible thread. I hope that helps :)
