yeah you don't need expensive equipment to be a producer, just a 600 dollar bass a choir and a bunch of talented musician friends. easy
@groalerable
@groalerable 7 лет назад
the majority of rap songs right now use sub or synth bass.. and they did say that this was inspired by old kanye beats which were mostly sample driven. anyone can cut up a sample.
@nano8640
@nano8640 7 лет назад
yeah i get that but what makes the song they made great is all of the live instrumentation, and considering it's their only popular song afaik it's not really cool of them to say "you don't need expensive equipment" as if they made it on a modest budget
@groalerable
@groalerable 7 лет назад
$600 is not exceptionally expensive for a 5 string bass. they could have spent thousands but it was still a hit, that's what they're saying. They also could have used a digital bass and it might have worked just as well. If you want to make music that captures this aura then cut up some soul samples and put 808s or sampled drums under them. That's all just blaze/kanye/the heatmakers did most of the early 2000s. Then maybe eventually you'll have the money or connections to use all the live instruments and musicians you want. I doubt they had all the equipment and connections they wanted when they first started. You gotta start somewhere
@TomusMedia
@TomusMedia 7 лет назад
It is a modest budget compared to modern production. Most songs you hear on the radio will be recorded with a $10k bass guitar rig
@luchadorito
@luchadorito 7 лет назад
nano Thats how you become succesful in music. You socialize with people of all kinds within the craft so they will play their 600$ bass or organ or whatever for a sixpack and then you socialize with other ppl who will jump on your shit

@therealkpat
@therealkpat 7 лет назад

@repker
@repker 7 лет назад
if it were left completely instrumental, it'd probably sound like this. thing is, vocals take up so much of the frequency spectrum that if you want them to be the focus, you have to push back most everything else.
@thatunit995
@thatunit995 7 лет назад
Listen for instance to the snare and hihats, the complete treble is fucked up, the percussions arent even audible, most of the middle part got lost. If you compare this to how acid rap was mastered you hear the difference. Coloring Book is a great, great album, but awfully mastered.
@ebtrax4081

The social experiment
@repker
@repker 7 лет назад
well, I did a comparison between each album, even with audio visualizations, for the funzies, and the mastering isn't really that different, especially taking into consideration instrumentation variation. again, for this track the vocals take precedence, and when comparing the dynamics of the melodic bits to the drums, it actually isn't too different from what's in this video. for instance, the tambourine shaker thing is only a bit quieter, but it's still completely audible, far off from not audible like you're saying.

I love how the dude that talked the most is so down to Earth, like, he out here smoking and joint and telling us we don't need no fancy instruments to make music. Calling people's misconceptions stupid and showing us exactly how it's done like damn only 2 years in music???????? Y'all going FAR
