Uncle Explores the making of Chacha. In a small village of Arashenda, the local people make Cha-Cha at least once a year. Cha-Cha is a Georgian Vodka, or Grappa. Made from Grape Juice or "Pomace". Pomace is stored for the winter, then taken out in the spring to be distilled. The fermented pomace is placed in a Vat and vinegar is added.
Pomace is made from left over grape residue from making wine. Chacha is made at home in a mini still. In America it would be called "Moonshine" or as "Whit Blitz" in South Africa.
Making of Cha-Cha is not illegal in Georgia and many families continue the tradition from generation to generation.
The drink is made from double distilling the fermented pomace.
The drink is usually between 45% to 60% in alcohol by volume, which makes it incredibly strong.
Vodka unlike Cha-Cha is made from grains or potatoes.
Cha-Cha can also be made from wine.
